honestly the thing I appreciate about avril lavigne the most is how unafraid she was to intertwine sex and love songs. with most artists, I feel there are only songs individually about sex or love. or even songs that give the illusion of both are more sex and desire, rather than stable, healthy love for someone you truly know. avril lavigne integrates sex in her music alongside the wholesome parts of love, such as in "Hot" or "Things I'll Never Say". even in sex-positive music, sex doesn't feel like something you do with people you love, even if that is the intention. it's often too focused on the physical feelings of sex, rather than the love that fuels it. avril lavigne's love songs feel so truthful and relatable because she doesn't ignore sex, but she doesn't prioritize it over love either. anyways. that's my two cents.

I wish mona lisas and mad hatters was the last track on honky chateau instead of hercules. I feel like it would be such a good closure considering the first track was honky cat. we would've began with the glorification of the city, and ended with the reality. plus, mona lisas is just such a serene track to end with.

ok ik we all love conan gray and wishbone is amazing with beautiful vocals and instrumentals and individually the songs are great, but being so fr this album was not made to be listened to as an album. it gets pretty repetitive after a while considering the entire thing except for like one song is about the same man. the songs also constantly refrence each other like it's an easter egg when you catch a correlation between two songs. honestly this would've been my fave conan album if this wasn't the case. this album was made for 2-3 songs of it to be put in someone's playlist, not to be enjoyed as a full work of art.

#9 - femme fatale
ok let's be so fr nobody thought this album was the greatest. it was just an album full of club music with 0 depth. the most introspective song we got was I wanna go which was a great song, but not good enough to carry the album. criminal was also a great track but mostly because it's just her insulting her boyfriend for 5 minutes.
#8 - in the zone
I know I know... but honestly this just wasn't the best genre for britney. toxic was good and I liked outrageous, but honestly almost an entire album of songs about sex was pretty bland. respect for her trying out new sounds tho, I loved it back when she tried new things every album.
#7 - oops I did it again
again ik HOT take... I think this album was a nothingburger. some of the most generic pop of the century. she gets a lot of flack for having a high voice in her later albums, which I personally don't mind that much in comparison to how much she sounds like a baby in some of these songs (stronger, oops I did it again, lucky, dear diary, it goes on). I like stronger and can't make you love me, and I like lucky because it's more personal I guess, but yeah this album was just so generic and boring.
#6 - britney jean
this album was a letdown considering it was eponymous but told us absolutely nothing about britney. despite the fact, I did like the musical style britney took on. it was sort of similar to femme fatale with club music, but I think the style was more unique and there were varying emotions across the tracks. work bitch is an absolute classic, I quote it all the time, and I know perfume is kind of generic but I think the vocals are beautiful in it. and of course, alien was absolutely robbed by not being a single. I love the use of autotune in that track I really do. it's such a reassuring track for when you're feeling down and alone. I love it truly. other than those first three tracks, I think the album is kind of boring, but I do like the sound of it.
#5 - circus
ik it seems really low, but I like this album. I could sing womanizer forever, I lived and breathed circus as a kid, and if you seek amy used clever wordplay and was overall really catchy. unusual you was also really wholesome and lace and leather is always stuck in my head. I just don't think there's one song on this album that really sticks out, or anything it does with its sound that's new. it's good. it's solid. nothing more.
#4 - blackout
this album is such a guilty pleasure. I hate how her high voice is criticized in this album when it fits the electronic beats so well! toy soldier and hot as ice are so catchy and fun to dance in the shower to. radar, gimme more, and get back are simple but fun. and honestly, I feel like everybody things that the track everybody is weird, but I LOVED it! the sample is fun, the lyrics are fun, and the rap verse is so fun!!! this is the shit I listen to in my room at night dancing to. and of course, piece of me is such a bad bitch classic. it was such a cool sound and like I said, I loved it when britney was still trying new genres!!!
#3 - glory
I know, REALLY high. but this album was criminally underrated! I think glory was the perfect title. invitation is such an angelic opening track, do you wanna come over and change your mind are so casual and I love that about them, man on the moon is super catchy, and I LOVED britney's voice in clumsy! like she's southern and sounds like it!!! I would reccomend this album to any dance pop fan.
#2 - baby one more time
obviously, the song the album is named after was an instant classic upon release. crazy, deep in my heart, thinkin about you, and I'll never stop loving you and pretty much all the other songs on the album kept a consistent yet fresh sound. throughout the album, her voice was absolutely gorgeous. I liked how she mixed it up with higher and deeper voices. she sounds so fresh and it's clear to anyone who listened to this album why britney revolutionized pop music. additionally, soda pop is a super fun track and I wish more people liked it!!
#1 - britney
GOD I love britney. one of the few times we actually caught sight of WHO BRITNEY IS!!! the album has such a fun r&b sound and still does dance pop justice. overprotected is phenomenal and really helps us catch a glimpse of who britney really wants to be. my personal favorite song is lonely. I liked how she really focused on her independence as compared to her last album. this girl don't need no man!!! let me be, what it's like to be me, and cinderella are also great tracks showing that britney is her own person. at the same time, boys and anticipating are fun and lighthearted and great to play in the car with friends. she did I love rock and roll justice as well.
anyways. yeah my takes are hot but britney is hotter!!!

best album length is 45 mins (2 albums per houseclean). deluxe tracks should take it to an hour (workout session). eps are best at 15-20 mins (shower length)

listened to hades and liked it overall but the comments just reminded me how toxic melanie fans are. it's okay if bad people make good music guys. I like her music she touches on deeper concepts which I love in the written word but I'm not gonna defend her sa-ing someone even if it is "just allegations". it's "always believe the victim" until you like the rapist. reminder that YOU DON'T KNOW HER you're just a fan.
anyways hades was good. lost some of the subtlety and use of allegory I adored in her earlier albums, but her vocals and instrumentals may even be the best they've ever been. I reccomend listening to the album on shuffle with some other music thrown in bc it's super bloated to listen to at once but has some really good songs on it. (garbage, the plague, avoidant, and disney princess are my faves I think?). white boy with a gun was the worst song imo (bc of the lack of subtlety I mentioned earlier). I'm excited for part 2!!!

I will never understand how people can sit down and listen to Hamilton or Heathers or any other soundtrack to a movie. I just can't get into it. Music made for movies is so lyrically bland, thematically weak, and subpar when it comes to instrumentals. The only one I can get behind is Mamma Mia because the music is made to be music, not a soundtrack.

I always felt like goodbye yellow brick road was the sequel to honky cat. they feel like inverses of each other and I love it. honky cat seeks the high life with new orleans girls and calling his family fools, and then goodbye yellow brick road seeks escape from the glitz and glamour and wishes that he'd "listened to his old man". also honky cat mentions "bopping in the country / fishing in a stream" and goodbye yellow brick road mentions "back to the howling old owl in the woods / hunting the horny-back toad"
