To be entirely honest a great to overwhelming deal of the supposed mental/self esteem effects of growing up without a father/"male role model" or whatever mystical connective essence your biological parents supposedly have comes from the constant social messaging that these things are important and that you are a broken person without them. People will constantly reinforce the idea that a childs life is incomplete and unfulfilled without some supposedly missing (and generally immaterial) parental element in a way that conveniently justifies and reinforces whatever family structure is dominant in that specific culture.
And frankly a great deal of young men work themselves up into a misogynistic complex about having been "denied" male role models or some shit, and that's why they need to listen to some stochastic terrorist dickhead on a podcast. After all: It could never be the patriarchy. It's probably women's fault
TLDR this shit is culturally and socially defined and does not exist in a vacuum. There is no ingrained need for a "male presence", there is no ingrained need for biological parents (or even parents at all). The 1% of harm coming from something other than the socio-economic effects of being raised by a single mother comes from social pressure, stigma and misogny.
"Egg" and "poor innocent gnc cis man being attacked by the evil trans women" aren't the only options btw. Sometimes people just, get this, choose to have their enormous online presence remain closeted.
It's actually really weird how easily online queer spaces seem to forget that the closet is a thing.
This might come as a surprise for those who use the internet as their primary outlet for queerness but some people are online to do their jobs and don't want to be out at work.
The more of an audience someone has, the more understandable it gets if they share absolutely nothing about their personal life, queer identity included. "You should experiment with new pronouns and see how you like it" is a sensible suggestion to make in a situation where you're surrounded by people who either don't care or can be trusted to be supportive, but if you've got a six-digit number of capricious strangers screenshotting everything you say in public, you quickly learn that vulnerability and openness has a cost to it.
it's so crazy too bc i'll be like "this phrase/practice is being touted as ancient knowledge with a secret unbroken lineage, but it was quite literally made up in the 20th century. like we can trace it back to its very inception in like 1961." and someone will be like "that can't be true because my grandmother taught it to me." and i'm like yes your grandmother was 20 in 1961.
this website is always on some stupid insular drama where some idiot blogger named poobster-498 has said something controversial and stupid and then the most mediocre critical thinkers of the website get together and decide that everybody in the world can be categorized into pro-poobster or anti-poobster camps. and they invent fake slurs for each other like the pro-poobsters are called poobshits and the anti-poobsters are called pooblerites. and people will send you asks demanding that you clarify where you stand on poobster and "I've never heard of this person and I don't care about this at all" is an unacceptable answer to either side of this inane drama and automatically fashions you into a member of whichever opposing camp. when in reality you just truly have no idea who the fuck poobster-498 even is.

there is a really disgusting habit that misogynistic trans men have on this site where they will bring up some awful thing that happened to them in the past in order to disprove what they see as the Oppression Olympics favoring women. and obviously, i don't want traumatic and transphobic things to happen to trans men. but the assumption they always seem to have is that this trauma is theirs alone, and the woman they're talking to couldn't possibly have ever experienced anything worse, so this is their trump card. this type of man always assumes that no one taking part in any of these conversations could EVER have suffered more than he has suffered. then, he's placed a burden on the woman he's talking to, who now has to perform compassion for him in spite of all of the ways he is attacking her rhetorically, and also placing pressure on her to either 1. disclose her trauma and humilate herself publicly, or 2. NOT disclose her trauma, and forfeit the Oppression Olympics to him by default, which is also a humiliation. this behavior is common and it is revolting. recognize this when it happens and don't let them get away with it.
post: I noticed that in act 1 there's a loaded gun mounted on the wall there. I bet by the end of act 2 it will have been fired
all the replies: you're a fucking idiot
*after act 2*
all the replies: how the fuck did you know that
okay but we can't know for sure that the loud noise and bright flash offstage—which occurred after the character who was holding the gun exited the stage with it—was a gunshot, because we didn't get to directly see it
the thing about copyright abolition is that. what makes theft bad is that something is taken away from its rightful owner. in this sense, copyright infringement is literally not theft, because making a copy of something doesn't tangibly cause the original owner to lose anything that they would otherwise have. copyright enforcement, on the other hand, does take away people's access to what should be theirs. anyone who makes art while employed by a corporation and is unable to sell their work because it does not belong to them, anyone who's been sued by a pop musician for making music that sounds vaguely similar if you don't allow the jury to listen to the actual songs, these people have far more in common with victims of theft than anyone whose copyright has been infringed
like the thing with the film rights to MLK's speeches being owned by spielberg / dreamworks, that's not actually an instance where copyright law failed to protect artists. that's the system working as intended. MLK's speeches were his intellectual property. when he died the rights to that intellectual property transfered to his family, and his family decided to sell those rights to dreamworks, thereby functionally preventing anyone else from legally using those speeches in a film for the next several decades. no crime was committed, nobody was tricked into anything, that's just how intellectual property rights work

cis people don't exist
Noticing a lack of gender nonconformity and then blaming trans people for it is the most bass ackwards shit in the world if you think about how any of this works for even a second. You know who Loves rising conservatism wrt sexual-gender roles? Trans people, obviously, they're stealing our gnc cis people and making them Actually Normaler and Non Controversial by getting a sex change [EXTREMELY LOUD INCORRECT BUZZER]
youve posted the ai fishcats so much i finally started having dreams about them
world so beautiful
"Prison camp" is an absolute nothingburger term used only to fearmonger about non-Western countries btw. There is no fundamental difference between what you think of as a "prison camp" and your run-of-the-mill USamerican prison
"T-They make you WORK in prison camps in terrible conditions" Oh that's terrible! I can't imagine forcing incarcerated people to do back-breaking work in terrible conditions while also abusing them. Surely that would never happen in the USA,

Did you hear the scientists have found a way to grow colored cotton? Thoughts?
It’s not a ‘scientists have found’ and much more ‘people have been already doing that for thousands of years and it’s just gaining more attention recently’
Scientists didn’t know. It should be “Scientists just found out”
There’s actually been a load of vitriol leveled against folks who try to raise traditional colored cottons, because a lot of cotton growers don’t want the colored cottons cross-pollinating with their standard white cotton.
But anyway cotton can be grown in lovely natural shades of greens, reddish-brown ochres, and browns, all of which deepen with a good boil in water with a bit of washing soda thrown in.
The color obviously doesn’t fade or run, because it’s not dye. It’s the intrinsic color of the fiber itself.
I....I want clothes made out of those colors. They don't hurt my brain!
Aren’t they lovely?
I’m biased because I love the natural earth tones of many fibers, of course...browns, blacks, creams, copper-reds, ect...but I think they’re just gorgeous.

If anyone wants to know where you can get yarn or cotton like this!
Scientists did not "just find out", and this is more of the same anti intellectual bs as the post that goes around claiming archaeologists were too stupid to know that hair could be sewn for elaborate styles.
Anyway, scientists DID figure out how to grow colored cotton. They genetically engineered it to be bright fuckin pink, and they didn't "just find out" about it, they already knew which is literally what inspired them to attempt the thing they just accomplished. Begging y'all to stop pretending that scientists don't know things, don't have interests, don't grow up in farming communities or have family who taught them this. Scientists are people. Do you seriously think people who use genetic engineering to make eco-friendly pink cotton don't know anything about textiles?
Anyway. Bright pink cotton without dyes, because science is awesome
Yes. CSIRO scientist Doctor Colleen MacMillan led the team that figured this out. They used tobacco plants for testing because of the genetic similarity. Basically if the tobacco leaves produced colors when injected with a bit of the experimental genetic material, the scientists on the team already understood that the color change would affect cotton bolls as well.
They grew bright red and bright yellow in a petri dish.
And yes, Doctor MacMillan knows lots of things. Here's a list of some of her publications.

Additionally folks are researching how to create flame resistant cotton and black cotton. If a variety of black cotton becomes viable, it can stop a LOT of environmental damage caused by chemical manufacturing of black dye.
THIS. Every damn botanist I know, including myself, is at the least tangentially interested in fiber arts and indigenous methods behind things like that. Scientists have hobbies and we're all goddamn nerds so a lot of those hobbies are more niche. The anti-intellectualism is insane. I swear half of y'all think scientists are all evil cackling old men devoted to holding up colonial power systems. The work done by Dr. MacMillan is crazy cool and should be celebrated
