I'm reading Hamlet. Starting right now. Looking at the cast page of the 1992-ish edition of the Folger Shakespeare Library version. And right off the bat, the queen is married to her dead husband's brother. And Ophelia doesn't get any description at all. Her dad and brother do, so I'm guessing Ophelia doesn't do anything outside of them. Gotta love that Elizabethan era sexism.

Hey kids, don't stay up all night finishing a book, get five hours of sleep because you finished it at six and your mom is making you get up by noon, and then try to power wash the deck while wearing sandals. But also it's three in the morning now why did i do thisssssssss

Trickster aspect? One of the oldest beings in the cosmere? Astronauts are so funny man. Here's just a couple of things I've found hilarious from this past week of space stuff:
It's probably already been spread around here enough already, but in case anyone's missed it; 7 hours after launch, commander Reid Wiseman, dealing with tech issues, uttered the generational quote "I have two Microsoft Outlooks and neither one of those are working."
After fixing the issues that were afflicting the onboard toilet, mission specialist Christina Koch (who has quickly become my favourite of the four) laughingly said “I’m the space plumber, I’m proud to call myself the space plumber.”
On Easter Sunday, the Artemis II crew hosted a makeshift egg hunt, by hiding packets of dehydrated scrambled eggs around their Orion capsule.
The way the crew always makes sure to make it very clear they're in space when doing interviews. From stuff like Wiseman just hanging out floating sideways on screen or Koch letting her hair loose so it can freely span out flowing around her.
While in transit, the crew decided to record a parody of those bad 80s sitcom intros where everyone turns and smiles at the camera.
When the crew reached the furthest point from Earth in the mission, they jokingly clambored over each other in an effort to get to the far side of the capsule, so that they could individually claim to be the furthest person from earth.
At the same time, on the ISS which was at the time on the other side of earth, the 7 astronauts onboard had a light-hearted race to the far side of the station, making jokes about being the furthest humans from Artemis.
On the way back to earth, NASA actually managed to establish an audio call between the crews of the ISS and Artemis II (where they shared the above info), and Koch called one member of the ISS crew, Jessica Meir, her "astro-sister" as the two of them previously spacewalker together in 2019. Meir then responded I'm so happy that we are back in space together, even if we are a few miles apart" (a few here being 230,000).
While Jeremy Hansen was doing an interview, Wiseman and Koch were just in the background swatting the mission mascot (a little moon plush toy named Rise) back and forth between each other.

I love horror in children's media and I think people should do it more (or apply aspects of it to adult media more) because horror in children's media is always so much more bone-chilling than horror in adult media. Trying to make violence and abuse and war and genocide 'kid friendly' forces you to have to frame things in a certain way, and usually that framing adds so much more to the story.
You can't actually show Zuko getting his face burned off, his skin boiling and peeling, the way he has to sit there and just let it happen because that would be too violent for children. So instead, you simply hear him screaming off screen while showing his uncle turning away in disgust and his sister watching with a gleeful look on her face which adds so much more depth and horror to the situation than if you had actually shown the act.
And there's countless other children's media that goes a kid-friendly route with violence and war, only making the implications of things so much worse. Marco can't see his android friend murdering dozens upon dozens of people within the span of ten seconds because that would be too violent, so instead he has to die and come back to life surrounded by the horror and carnage. You can't kill Kevin in Ben 10 because he's literally a child so instead you have to throw him into an alternate dimension that is essentially Hell and force him to battle for his life every second of the day.
It is so easy to portray violence. It's more horrifying when you don't.

Still on the prologue of WaT and I've learned several things about Gavilar Kholin. First, he was much further than i ever thought. He knows so much more than i assumed from the perspectives of those around him. He thinks very highly of himself, to the point where he's convinced that he's gonna become a Herald. And he is a dumbass. Dude thinks that immediately breaking the Oathpact and causing another Desolation immediately would be the best move and not the worst possible option. Does he not know that leading up to Aharietiam the Desolations would come at an insane pace? That more technology was lost with each one? That humanity was practically back to the stone age by the end of it? The ego of this man practically wafts off the page.
And now, at long last, i can finally get to Wind and Truth. We got ten days, two weeks Rosharan time, until the contest of champions. This is probably the final ten days referred to in the flavor text at the beginning of the RoW part 5 chapters. And hoo boy is it gonna be a wild ride. Hoid could reveal everything he knows about Rayse and it would be worthless because Rayse is dead. Taravangian holds the Shard of Odium now, and he's a largely unknown quantity. Given that his body is dead, it's probably safe to assume that his pattern recognition and empathy aren't inversely related anymore. This could be very bad. Taravangian is a wild card. Hell, is he even bound to the deal Rayse made with Dalinar? Who knows! (The people who've read this book in the last year and change, that's who)
All of the flavor text at the start of the Part 5 chapters in RoW are from the musings of El on the first of the Final Ten Days. My cousin, who's read WaT, says it takes place over ten days. Two weeks, Rosharan time. There might be some connection there. Like, the first day of WaT is when these musings are happening.

Kaladin just killed a Fused in front of Lirin. Lirin said, among other things, "I will take responsibility for what I have done". That is word for word the first half of the Oath Dalinar swore in his confrontation with Odium during the Sanderlanche of Oathbringer. That is the Third Ideal of the Bondsmiths. Dalinar is bonded with the Stormfather. Navani bonds the Sibling layer in RoW. Is this foreshadowing for Lirin binding the Nightwatcher or Cultivation?
Done with Dawnshard, now onto my favorite: Rhythm of War. I'm really gonna have to haul ass through this one because my brother is done with Oathbringer and starts RoW tomorrow. I've warned him about the change in editors and editing style, and told him about how the Plot Bus and Science Bus are one and the same with Navani at the wheel. I love all the cool shit she gets up to in this one. It has my favorite Chapter One of the Stormlight books I've read, because it's set on her glorious flying machine and we get to learn exactly how it works.
