GOSSIP GIRL edition (i’m halfway through the series!)

*this is my favorites to see on my screen doesn’t necessarily mean i support their decisions*

*not fleshed out or anything & it made sense in my head and not probs not to u guys lol

1. Chuck: yes he’s done unforgivable things but just his whole persona & complexity makes it hard to look away, i’m always pulled to characters who are in that “dark grey” area. like u really don’t know what he’s thinking & why he does what he does. he likes games & so do i. plus him & leighton have great chemistry. also his play on words make me laugh (it’s like when a character says something so absurd/wrong it’s funny).

2. Blair: duh, she’s my it girl. she can be backstabby a lot but she’s just a girl. i love how she holds & views herself. and how she goes/gets what she wants. she has a kinda soft side but i wish it was more consistent. i think she holds good relationships but she lets chuck get in the way a lot. similarly to chuck, i love her one liners / comebacks. she just does whatever she wants and i’m like “girl” but go off ig since it makes me laugh. also extra but i love her & dorta!

3. Jenny: She irritates me sometimes but im like yeah they be doing u wrong…i also like her vibe, loved s1 her tho ofc, but also like her evolution. i thought she was gone after s3 but she’s in s4 quite a bit but they always sabotage her so rip.

4. Nate: He’s so clueless it’s sometimes not funny. I like how he’s loyal to an extent, like he has a few slip ups but given his whole family situation….I wish he was more than just a blunt in the rotation. I think he has potential to be more so maybe in the later seasons ?? idk. but he is literally prince charming like he could be taking over NYC like chuck, but ig that’s what separates him, he just wants the simple things in life.

5. Dan: He’s definitely my humor relief character as someone who talks in sarcasm he speaks my language lol. I can see how some can find it annoying and sometimes im like read the room. he loves serena a lot (can be annoying as well). i sometimes feel bad because like hes technically an outside tryna fit it and he’ll never really fit in. but that’s just reality so dan u do u. him & blair aren’t horrible but it gives sibling vibes with the banter.

5. Rufus & Lilly: I think they’re eh parents. Ofc they have a lot of skeletons, and issues and like a lot of children if u combine everyone lol so i understand. their relationship is questionable/boring rn. Like i did like the will they won’t they. I didn’t mind lilly leaving for Rufus, but im like what next?? I feel like it’s hard for them to be parents together since their kids are on opposite ends. I do like how Lilly calls the kids by their full name, like Daniel & Charles, it adds to her. And i like her relationship with Chuck, I think it’s needed regardless of what u think of either of them. Also since they chose to each other rather than it already being there.

6. Eric: I knew he was gay from the start lol it’s so obvious. He’s a cutie tho I do like him. He has morals for the most part but also slips a few times. I also feel like there’s more he can do…like he doesn’t fit fully in with the older kids like Jenny did so it’s just like … I think they could come up with someone other than him being gay or mentally unstable.

i’ve gone through this show as fast as most of these characters have gone through each other 😭

still riding them out since ik now it all ends (but i will judge how he comes back from it)

no way chuck set her up & then got mad that she went through with it??

yes, they both should’ve said something, more on chuck tho since he knew first & his hotel etc

like especially when blair is on one and chuck is just like 🧍‍♀️😏 “can’t do anything abt it sorry” he knows not to get in her way and to only be a helping hand (when needed)

and with chuck too he has some of the funniest lines (along sarcastic dan ofc) he just has great line drops and it’s not like he’s tryna be funny he just says it to say it

like ok nate archibald is prince charming and everytime he’s on screen i melttt and i’ll even throw in that majority of my crushes are guys with dirty blonde hair & blue eyes so i understand

but chuck & dan are just as good in their own. like cmonnn the dark eyes & hair

like nate is definitely golden retriever but with chuck & dan there’s mystery and softness which just does something to me

like it’s ok to separate real life morals from a soap opera tv show

at least for me, i judge characters in gg in gg terms/standards & i willingly watch knowing they are gonna say / do some stupid sht that will backfire in their face i mean it’s so obvious

like the miscommunication is real in this show. and as a viewer i just go along with it. i’m just here for the ride.

ofc i have my moral compass in the back of my mind that say “this is wrong & messed up” etc but it’s not like i can yell at them through the screen.

i just see way too many comments under fan edits or posts and it’s just like calm down. like yes u can talk about what the character did wrong but some of yall just drag it out.

like if u truly cared that much u wouldn’t watch gossip girl and watch something more morally correct.

like yall know it’s a show, it’s dramatic, backstabbing, self sabotaging and get on the internet and complain.

like i’m 2 seasons in, but i think it’s a great show that deals with lots of topics, which ofc would be wrong to happen irl, but in a show it makes for a good story. the actors look wise are great and they’re all multidimensional, no one is a saint in that show and it keeps you on your toes. you get to feel bad, mad, sad for them like is that not fun??

i feel like we’re missing the whole point of gossip girl. and people are like “this character is ugly” “this character did this” and it’s like ?? like yes they did & you knew they were gonna do that. yet people want to act surprise or feel the need to point it out and it’s like YES WE KNOWWW. just because someone posts a edit or comment doesn’t mean they’re not aware.

as in as when ed is on screen im always waiting for what chuck will say or do next and how he’s basically self sabotages, major daddy/trust issues, plays games with blair and a complex far higher than ill understand

while he’s all his bad, he is ultimately a complex character, since the writers decided to write him like that, not so we can sympathize but to give reasoning/motive on why he acts that way, otherwise we wouldn’t care because we’d just see this random guy being horrible

and that’s why i enjoy him on my screen, not because of his actions, but because u already know what he’s gonna do anyways, it’s chuck, and yes some of his lines/actions are absurd ur just like jaw dropped and no sane person would actually do this irl so that’s what makes it gossip girl, a tv show, meant with all the dramatics

so yes, I’m explaining all this because i had a user (probs a troll since it had no pfp & content) come on here and said “ofc u like an abusive character…etc” even tho i never once said i excused his actions…

so what do other chuck watchers think? or how do they u say u “enjoy chuck” as in ed’s portrayal of him? since i mean there are ofc gifs, edits of chuck as well as people shipping/rooting for chair aka chuck & blair, so he’s not like banned from viewers and i’m sure people under those posts don’t take it literally, like if u watch the show u know chuck is chuck so like its fine to be like “oh when he did this it was out of pocket” or say “blair & chuck make sense”

like i feel like there is a time/place aka context for when to say like chuck is a horrible person and when to just “enjoy” him as a character because ed ate his role…

oof throwback!!

just finished the atla movie! i think overall it was great seeing the gaang again (and they all look so fine 😩 as adults) but it definitely felt like a tug-of-war between advancement & nostalgia…like ofc i want to see references & mannerisms, but it kinda felt like they were being mature one moment & then atla show the other and i’m like ??

i mean ofc the show balances both humor & mature themes but they did that amongst episodes so there was a good rhythm to it, but in the movie i was like …

would be great to get a limited series so that they’re not milking it too much, because let’s be real, atla (the show) is a natural treasure, and should not be touched too much

atla is where it all started it’s why we have this movie & spinoffs, because it was special

even using the same characters again it’s still hard to recreate that magic…so im all for not dragging out but giving some more life too it…like seeing the council / politics / world building of the republic city & common day to day rather than massive fight scenes
