Thank you so much for running this blog! You're fantastic. I was wondering if you could explain to me odd and even functions?
basically if you have a function f(x) and you plug in -x and get the same function back, its an even function. if you get the opposite function back then its odd
for example f(x) = x^2 + 3f(-x) = (-x)^2 + 3 = x^2 + 3 = f(x) therefore its even
f(x) = x^3f(-x) = (-x)^3 = -x^3 which is the opposite of f(x) therefore its odd
So im trying to factor 3x^2y + 6x^4y^2 and my uncle told me to divide both sides by 3x^2y and i got 1+2x^2y but idk if thats correct
there's only one side
u can only divide both sides if there's another side
so the answer is
3x^2y(1+2x^2y)
I have to find the product of (x(2) + 3x - 4)(x + 1) so do I just have to distribute and if so, what do I distribute?
yes distribute each variable in the first expression with each in the second onex^2*x + x^2*1 + 3x*x + 3x*1 + -4*x + -4*1 =x^3 + x^2 + 3x^2 + 3x - 4x -4 =x^3 + 4x^2 - x - 4
Ok so 1) what exactly is factoring and 2) how do I factor 4x(2) - 49?
it's decomposing an expression into the product of smaller expressions
remember the rule (a^2-b^2) = (a+b)(a-b)
in this case your a^2 = 4x^2square root both sides and a = 2xdo the same with b^2 = 49b = 7plug in your a and b into (a+b)(a-b)
therefore your answer is4x^2-49 = (2x + 7)(2x - 7)

What value would make the fraction 1/x-4 undefined? Do you think you can explain it, too?
set the denominator equal to 0
x - 4 = 0x = 4
therefore, x=4 would make the fraction undefined b/c you're not allowed to divide by zero and therefore your denominator can never equal 0
OHMYGOD THANK YOU SO MUCH! :D That was the last question on my quiz today and I got everything to the part where you set it to -5. I couldn't factor it so I just graphed it on my calculator, and totally forgot about the quadratic formula D: THANK YOU SO MUCH! :DD
no problem!! :)
If f(x) is equal to x^2 - 8, and g(x) is equal to 2x^2-2x (all under a square root sign for g) then what are the values for x when f(g(x))= -5.
so all you have to do is plug in the g(x) function for wherever there's an x in the f(x) function
so since f(x) = x^2 - 8, and g(x) = sqrt(2x^2 - 2x), you replace the x in f(x) with sqrt(2x^2 - 2x)
f(g(x)) = (sqrt(2x^2 - 2x))^2 - 8f(g(x)) = 2x^2 - 2x - 8
that's your f(g(x)), and since you're solving for f(g(x)) = -5, just set that equation equal to -5
2x^2 - 2x - 8 = -52x^2 - 2x - 3 = 0
then when you use quadratic formula to solve for x, you get
x = (1 ± √7)/2
lmk if you have any questions
this blog is good thank y so much also this is a long shot but can u do geometry in spanish LMAO if not ill just translate
thank you!! and haha i cant read spanish very well so if you could translate it that would be great
im supposed to find 3 consec. integers whose sum is 246 using an algebraic solution but i have no idea how!
ok so like you have three integers rightan example of 3 consecutive integers are like 1, 2, 3 right which you can rewrite like 1, 1+1, 1+2 and its still the sameso lets say the first integer in ur problem is xso ur 3 consec. integers would be x, x+1 and x+2 right?? b/c the next number after x would be x+1 and the number after that would be x+2so they should all add up to 246x + (x+1) + (x+2) = 2463x + 3 = 2463x = 243x = 81so ur 3 consecutive integers are 81, 82, 83

I got stuck on this question: Find the value of the expression, Arc cos (sin pi/6), in radians. Thank you :-)
sin pi/6 = 1/2
Arc cos(1/2) = pi/3
What's the difference between arcsin(x), Arcsin(x) and csc(x)?
Arcsin(x) with a capital letter is a restricted function
csc(x) is 1/sin(x)
so for the next question, it basically asks the same thing. g(x)=x^2+1 and i get 10. so then they ask, if f(x) and g(x) is defined as in question 1 and 2, what is the value of f(-2) + g(5)? im a bit confused on this part
ok so f(x) = 2x + 5, and g(x) = x^2 + 1
so to find f(-2) + g(5) find each of those separately first
so f(-2) = 2*-2 + 5 = -4 + 5 = 1and g(5) = 5^2 + 1 = 26
and since ur finding f(-2) + g(5) just add them together
26 + 1 = 27
if f(x)=2x+5, what is the value of f(3)? would i just have to plug in the 3?
yeah just plug in 3 for x!
so f(3) = 2*3 + 5 = 6 + 5 = 11
i have to graph x < -2 and x ≥ 1 on a number line that goes from -3 to 3. im still so confused on how to graph these things!
ok so basically the number line from -3 to 3 contains all the values from -3 to 3 right? so when they give you something like x < -2, they're asking you to shade all the values on the line that are less than two. since it's a <, that means it's not inclusive of -2, so you draw an open circle around -2 and then shade everything below -2, because everything below -2 is x < -2
with x ≥ 1, since it's a ≥ sign, that means it's inclusive of 1. so basically, it's asking what x values are all greater than and equal to 1 on the line. everything above 1, including 1, should be shaded then b/c that satisfies x ≥ 1
i hope that makes sense!

"If we bought 3 goldfish and we noticed the number of goldfish doubled every month, we could represent this growth with what equation?" Please explain how you get the equation
y = 3(2)^x
exponential growth equation is y = a(r)^x where a is the initial amount and r is the growth factor
so you plug in 3 for a, since there are 3 fish initially, and since it doubles every month, the r value is 2
idk how else to explain it so if u still have questions please ask!!
how would you find the complement and supplement of something like (x+3) or (2x-3)? is there like a formula? thank you very much in advance ^^
Complementary angles are angles that add up to 90 degrees. Supplementary angles are angles that add up to 180 degrees.
so to find the complement, you subtract from 90.
complement of (x+3) is (90-x-3) = (87-x)
supplement of (x+3) is (180-x-3) = (177-x)
complement of (2x-3) is (90 - 2x + 3) = (93-2x)
supplement of (2x-3) is (180 - 2x + 3)= (183-2x)
