"femboy" in its original context was coined as an alternative to "trap" "shemale" "dickgirl" and "tranny" when transphobic straight men became embarrassed to use those terms in front of each other. it is a porn category word that was used then and is still used now to justify jerking off to trans women while calling them effeminate men. it's an insult that is being reclaimed by some transfems, and as with all insults, if it was not originally aimed at you then you have no right to reclaim it. we all know that it has nothing to do with being a femme man and you are engaging in bad-faith wordplay games if you claim otherwise.
i don't think any genuinely transfeminist man or boy, cis or trans, of any aesthetic persuasion, would choose to use that particular word if they really thought about it. and if you aren't genuinely transfeminist and at least that bare minimum of thoughtful then i don't wanna fucking know you.
cis women feeling that theyâre failing at femininity or at being a women because of their looks comes from a place of misogynistic values imparted on them from a young age. trans women often feel that thereâs no way they could ever be a real woman because they wouldnât be pretty enough. these are products of the same misogynistic standard, the difference is that trans women exist on the intersection of also being affected by transphobia, and are a group of women who are coerced and abused into performing masculinity by society.
when we talk about menâs issues, can you attribute that to misandry? or is it just also the product of the patriarchy? so, trans men exist of the intersection of being targeted by transphobia and patriarchal standards of what a man is. not by transphobia and misandry, suggesting otherwise is the suggestion that trans men arenât men and are instead something else, who face a type of oppression unique to them, which is transphobic.
âtrans men face medical misogyny!â a product of transphobia, unique to the experiences of trans men. does not count as misandry.
âtrans men have to deal with the standards of gender expression that apply to men!â a product of patriarchal society and rigid gender roles. does not count as misandry.
âtrans men who donât pass are treated like women, and arenât afforded the respect and recognition of being a man!â a product of transphobia, that affects non-passing trans women too, in the other direction. does. not. count. as. misandry.
transandrophobia exists in response to academic discussion around intersectional feminism regarding trans women. if trans women are oppressed and get a word to describe that, shouldnât trans men too? this thought process, this reaction, is strikingly similar to that of cis men who trumpet âmenâs rightsâ. cis men, who saw criticism of the society in which we live and how it affects women, whose reactions are to point out the âoppressionâ of men in society? itâs the exact fucking same. reactionary bullshit, rather than real discussion.
