Noctis stared over at Prompto for a good two minutes, huffed and then looked away with a rather unreadable expression on his face. But his body seemed tense nonetheless.

It’d been going on for a couple of minutes now and Prompto couldn’t exactly figure out what he’d done wrong. Sure, he’d jumped in front of a Sabertusk earlier and things got a little hairy but they were both fine! So, what was going on now?

Prompto pressed his lips together and shifted, slightly facing Noctis a little better. “So ah... are you gonna tell me what’s up or am I permanently in the dog house? Promise you, Noct, I didn’t mean to cause any trouble earlier if that’s what’s going on. I guess just, you know, let me make it up to you?”

There were people from Niflheim - refugees - and all of the ones that Prompto had met were... less than pleasant. The last one that he’d had to deal with threw water at him, a shockingly valuable resource, and walked away muttering.

“Yeah..” He dropped his cigarette and mashed the butt of it with his boot. “Wouldn’t hurt the guy to at least try though. Not even sure what he said. Didn’t sound positive though.” For all his luck, it was likely something about him being a Niflheim traitor for being Crownsguard. Not that he cared for their opinion right then.

Prompto crossed his arms and glanced at Zell. “So, what are we in for today? Hunts or are we patrolling?”

Prompto’s heart dropped and he felt sick almost immediately. Having kids was a topic that he didn’t think Noctis would ever bring up but here they were. The statement hung heavy in the air and Prompto had to steady himself by taking a long drink of his soda.

But he couldn’t. Prompto wasn’t able to have kids, it’d been medically proven when he was seventeen. In fact, he’d come to Noct’s place and vented about it. Well, if venting were crying and being tempted to drink, then that’s precisely what he’d done. So this was a bit like salt in a wound that would never heal -- Noct had to know that.

“I-ah... Do you mean adoption or a surrogate? I mean, if you want to pursue that, it’s fine. You know I’ll step back if you need me to.” Step back as in not be in the way at all. Prompto put his plate down on the table and ignored it entirely, he couldn’t eat with his stomach twisting like this.

No, stay chill. Don’t flip.

He leaned back against the couch and put his hands in his lap, playing with his own fingers. “So ah, have you talked to potentials or something?”
