rain, get the hell away from me
it had been raining for days. maybe weeks. i had given up on cleaning the balcony or getting back the clothes i tried to hang up to dry. they were not gonna dry anytime soon. i only hid and looked through the window. i'd lost my umbrella - deep down i had a hunch someone stole it. they were starting to get rare. the road was littered with broken metallic rods and umbrella handles.
then one day i woke up and the sun was up - well, it was up everyday, just hidden behind the clouds. on this day, there was not one cloud in sight, only the sunrays ripping through the sky. everything was suddenly dry, although i'd been hearing the scratching of the rain on my window all night, like a dog wanting to be let in. on this day we sat on the roof of my friend's house. next to each other, on about-to-break plastic chairs from some outdoor celebration ten or more years ago. we looked over the city and tried our best to spot people hiding behind the bushes at the nearby park - no one was actually hiding in the bushes, but it was fun to pretend they were. i breathed. on the next day it started raining again.
as we were laying in my bed with only the cold light of the kitchen on she said she liked the rain. i asked her if they get any at all down where she's from. she said hardly. I told her she can take all the rain for herself if she wants to. just get it away from me.
