I know we talk a lot about the literacy crisis and the horrible anti-intellectualism happening rn but I think we need to talk more about how much of an entitlement complex the stupidest among us have developed
if you donβt know what a word means, look it up.
if you canβt look it up, use context clues.
Overuse of purple prose is a problem in Fantasy, but βscryingβ is just, like, the word for a specific kind of magic. That degree of specificity and the vibe archaic arcane-sounding words lend to the magic they describe is a feature of the genre that readers expect & want. This is like getting mad a book about Egypt used the word Pharaoh or papyrus instead of βkingβ or βpaper made out of reedsβ.
Fuck your inability to use a gods damn dictionary!
I will NEVER stop using big words in my writing!
Grow a brain and use a dictionary! At the very least you can copy and paste a word into google and it'll define it for you.
