Ah, but she did! All three flights of stairs were no match for the voluminously-haired girl as she skipped them two at a time. The end goal was in her line of sight and her mouth watered. Without thinking – because she thought PREPARE was pretty self-explanatory – she tries to run right through but only manages to throw herself against the locked door shoulder first.

“Yowa Yowa Yowa Yowa – ALAN!”

She knocks by kicking at the door as she uses her hand to rub her sore shoulder.

“Alan! I’m heeereee! Open Open Open!”

The sudden slam of whatever hit his door made Alan drop his phone as he jumped in surprise. Quickly, he pieced together that the force behind that sound was Claire herself as he heard her muffled voice from behind the door. After picking up his phone and placing it on the small coffee table in front of his couch, he briskly made way to unlock the door for Claire.

Her wild hair looked extremely windswept, confirming that she did run. The hand on her shoulder also confirmed that she rammed right into the door.

“Are you okay? Do you not have your key? WHY DID YOU RUN?” As he kept asking questions, his volume got louder. At times like this, which included Calire running right into the door, he was fortunate that he didn’t have any neighbors on this floor or one right below his apartment. He didn’t wait for her to answer before stepping to the right, going into his kitchen to start preparing an ice pack with a Zip-loc and some ice from the freezer.

Alan stared at his phone at those last seven letters his friend sent him. Inwardly he couldn’t decide if he should leave his door unlocked or just leave it (due to him locking it after the pizza guy left out of reflex) since Claire probably brought her own key. Why did she still have a key? Whatever. Besides the door, how else could he have “prepared” for her? The pizza was here. Soda was in the fridge to keep it cool. The TV was on. He could probably prepare a glass of water if she actually did run -- despite him saying she shouldn’t; he couldn’t imagine the possible consequences of that happening. He at least hoped she didn’t run up the three flights it took to get to his place.
