But I really like how wholesome Luke and Eugene's friendship is. Like, Luke likes sports but he also loves cats and is more sensitive than he first seems (like he boo hoo cried over Kitty and it wasn't weird or mocked it's like "this kid is torn up over losing his pet and needs to grieve and that's OK" and GOD I love that! let boys be sensitive and cry!!) and he's so genuinely NICE to Eugene just "Hey man why don't you ever talk" and trying to get him to open up and interact with him and the other people in school. I also love how nice Joy and Oliver are like "Hey man is he picking on you? Do we need to tell somebody?" Cuz they know he has kind of a bad temper when annoyed. It's a really nice subversion from "popular kids pick on loner", we need more "popular kids take in loner kid as one of their own and they all become friends" plots. Heck Eugene stutters a lot too and none of the people his age make fun of him for it either and that's especially nice to me because a lot of people who stutter are bullied for it but. That never happens in this game.

Also they don't really try to change who Eugene is, either. He's an anxious kid when the game starts and he still is when the game ends. He's not a social butterfly by any means, or more extroverted, but he doesn't hate himself anymore and he's learned to like himself (which is why he can look his reflection in the eye in his dreams and smile because he knows his worth). And Luke and the others like him too, just the way he is.
