“he’s been skipping around happily?” penelope asked with a gasp. “i could just kiss him to death. he’s a great choice. he tells me i’m pretty all the time. which is the best part. he is so nice.” penny said with a sigh as she rested her hand on her head on her palm. “i think he might be my favorite person i’ve ever met. he treats me better than anyone i’ve ever known.” 

“He has yes. Clearly he’s just as smitten.” Howl had taken on many youngsters into his ‘care’ so to speak in his time but it was always lovely to see them find happiness. “He is a great young man. He’s respectful and a gentleman. You couldn’t have made a better choice. I’m very glad to hear he treats you like princess you are. Aren’t you glad the stars aligned and your destinies crossed?”

no  one  loved  a  moment  of  peace  quite  like  victor.  the  set  up  was  extremely  welcoming  to  him  and  he  found  himself  happily  reading  his  book  at  one  of  the  tables.  it  took  him  a  little  bit  of  warming  up  before  he  mustered  up  the  nerves  to  come  over  and  speak  with  howl.

Howl almost didn’t hear the man being far too focused on a rather difficult spell to understand. The older he got the more he seemed to forget the dead languages he’d been taught in his youth. He smiled at the man, “Oh, nothing too interesting. It could use a much better plot but I suppose it is very interesting. I’m sure yours is much more interesting.”

Kit looked around for the offered seat, and upon taking it, he nodded at the wizard with a smile. Wizard? Sorceror? He wasn’t sure. But while he felt too restless to sit down, it felt improper to refuse … and he truly didn’t know what he’d do with himself otherwise. Still, his leg bounced up and down lightly as he sat. 

“Thank you,” he started, “for letting me stay and agreeing to speak with me. I confess, I … it makes a nice change from the labyrinthian struggle to speak with the Mayor.” Kit inhaled and exhaled. “Mr Pendragon, I … I cannot engage in the usual pleasantries. I came here to seek counsel on what can be done about the curse set upon my brother. About Maleficent. Is there any knowledge at all that you can impart with us? Perhaps … perhaps something to wake him up?” he asked, desperation colouring his voice.

Howl hat to chuckle at that. “Yes, Michael is a very hard man to reach even for me if you can imagine that. He has his reasons even if they’re unknown to most.” Mickey was a rather sharp pain in his side but he was a dear friend and if wasn’t loyal to him, he would never have move to the town if he wasn’t. He’d heard of the curse, of course. He knew that it would take something very valuable to break it but it would never be up to him to do so. “The eldest Charmont, Kit, I presume? Yes, it is unfortunate that Maleficent’s evil moves so freely. I know that you are desperate but as I told your sister-in-law, there is nothing I can do. It is unfortunately up to her. This is her journey and her battle to fight as terrible as it all may seem.”

sophie was driven insane by the wizard’s persistent concern for that evil fairy, who created more problems than she caused. the young lady didn’t understand why he had to be part of everything. always searching for solutions that didn’t involve him. she stepped out of philemon’s nursery after nestling him into the little crocheted blanket she had created for him, and stood in silence at the chaos surrounding her. the mess she would clean up after finding the exact same wizard who believed books should be left on the ground rather than on their shelves, and that thought ignoring her was a good idea.   

upon opening the door and seeing him comfortably perched with a book on the table, she said, “howl." 

sophie gave him a soft slap on the shoulders and let out a heavy sigh as she prepared to use her broomstick to knock him unconscious if he responded inappropriately. "why are you avoiding me?”

Howl rolled his eyes as Sophie approached him. He cared for her deeply, he’d venture to say he loved her but she was a force of nature that he feared more often than naught. Yet, he couldn’t help angering her and having her turn her wrath on him. He enjoyed the way her eyes lit up when she yelled at him. 

“Sophie.” He looked to her with a smile. “Did you not kick me out of the house moments ago because I was ‘muttering far too much to be reasonable’ or is an overactive imagination being added to my list of supposed ailments?”

Magic followed Kit like a shadow, wherever he went. As a youth, he remembered a time when he pored over all the books in Ulstead to know more, about mystics and curses and potions and sorcery. He could not remember why. But all he could remember was that magic felt unreachable to him, unknowable. As if he simply wasn’t built for it. It humbled him most days, but frustrated him when magic was the source of his loved ones’ pain. Such as the curse on his brother. 

But, thankfully, there would always be someone wiser than him. Which was why he sought out the counsel of Howl Pendragon today.

Upon seeing Howl focusing on his work, Kit hesitated to approach. He could not approach Howl as he approached the mayor. He told himself to loosen his squared shoulders. “Pardon me … Mr Pendragon? Do you have a moment? Or, perhaps … I might return at a more suitable time?”

Howl was so close to figuring out a new protection spell for the town. He had more than half of it configured and written out. He just had to make sure it would work in the long term. His muttering getting worse but he looked up at the interruption. Royalty, a prince, Howl had been around long enough that he could spot it a mile away. 

He straightened up at smiled at the young man. “No, no. I have a moment. Please, sit down.” He wasn’t used to such respect. It was nice. “How can I be of service?” 

Privately, she was a little surprised that she had not managed to catch the man off-guard with her appearance. With that said, a cursory glance showed her that the tome he appeared to be poring over held knowledge that required skill to wield. She could not be too disappointed, even if scaring others had always given her a flicker of joy.

“Interesting.” The daytime was simply not her preferred time for action, but she was aware that many preferred to act under the sun’s rays. Wednesday had always been more partial to the cover of night, with only the light of the moon to guide her. It was the Addams way; it was her way. “I prefer the night time myself. It is easier to achieve what you must in the dark.”

Howl nodded in acknowledgement. He’d spend quite some time in the dark and he hadn’t been a fan. He’d always gravitated towards the light and the color of the world while having been forcefully dragged into the shadows so while he could appreciate the girl’s love of it, it simply wasn’t for him.

“There is plenty to be done in the sun as well.” Howl said simply as he closed the tome. “In fact, some spells require the sun as much as they require the moon.”

penelope giggled as she let go of her friend. wouldn’t be a joyful reunion if she suffocated him in the process. “so, i’ll let you guess.” she said slipping into a seat next to him. “he’s tall, blonde-ish, extremely hunky, and has a big heart.” she said giddy with puppy love, “and say yourself.” she teased, but penelope was impatient she wouldn’t give howl the time to answer before she squealed out, “it’s barley!” she announced, kicking her feet with excitement, “isn’t he so cute and sweet? i just could eat him up!!!”

Howl listened to her and couldn’t help but be pulled into her excitement. She was so far away from who she had been when her met her. It was always so lovely to see his human friends grow and flourish and Penny was glowing. Howl’s smile was so soft as he looked at her. It was like a daughter coming to tell him she’d met the boy she was going to marry. “Barley? Is that why he’s been so happily skipping in here? A fine choice, Penny. He is a fine young man.”

Wednesday walked sedately through the town, taking in the sights before a store caught her attention. The apothecary across the street was intriguing, to say the least. It seemed that towns were not solely made up of neon lights and  pop music, and this particular apothecary did not appear to be mocking apothecaries of old. In fact, it appeared to be remarkably authentic. An eyebrow rose in consideration. A change in direction seemed to be in order.

Her gaze landed upon the man reading at the table in front of the store. Her eyes allowed her to note that the book was magical, and she silently moved to stand behind the blond. “Is there a reason why you are poring over this book in broad daylight?”

Howl had worked on his skills of detection over the years. He could sense every person in this town if he really tried to. It would be a ridiculous use of his magic but it was useful should he need it. It’s how he’d felt her coming. Not new exactly but foreign in a way. No real need to know more. He pulled himself out of the tome to acknowledge her. 

“I am searching for an answer.” He said as he looked over to her. He didn’t owe her any explanation but he could sense her curiosity. “The time of day doesn’t really affect my ability to pour over it. I honestly enjoy the day.”

penelope’s squeal could be heard ‘round the world when she spotted howl reading from across the way. “howl!!” she said, checking the coast before running across the street and practically attacking him in a hug. “i’ve missed you so much!” penelope said honestly, as she tightened her grip around his neck. “i missed you, i missed you, i missed you!” she said shaking him lightly before letting go. there was no invitation she sat across from him and bounced in her seat. “tell me everything you’ve been up to!” excitement spilled from her mouth, “but, wait! let me tell you something first… your little love rock ring thing worked!” she giggled. 

Howl couldn’t help but laugh as he found himself with an armful of Penelope. He hadn’t seen her in some time and he had missed her. She was easily his favorite person in town and he was happy to see her so full of joy. “Yes, yes, I have missed you as well, Penny.” The books lay forgotten on the desk as he turned his full attention to his friend. He’d forgotten about the stone he’d given her but it had done it’s job regardless it seemed. “Ah! Did it? Wonderful. Do I know the lucky man to have your attention? I should like to approve of him.”

              DAYS LIKE THIS HAD BECOME  a  rare  occurrance  for  the  past  two  months ,  days  in  which  aurora  would  leave  home  for  the  sake  of  existing  for  a  moment .  it  always  left  a  guilty ,  heavy  feeling  in  her  heart ;  after  all ,  philip  was  still  sleeping  and  while  her  friends  and  his  brothers  urged  her  to  take  care  of  herself ,  it  was  hard  to  do  so  without  worrying .  today ,  kit  had  offered  to  stay  with  philip  so  here  she  was :  strolling  around  town ,  breathing  in  the  winter  air  while  searching  for  answers .  eventually ,  her  walk  led  her  to  the  apothecary .  she'd  passed  by  the  shop  a  couple  of  times  in  the  past ,  always  curious  yet  hesitant  to  step  in .  this  time ,  however ,  there  was  a  man  sitting  outside ,  and  she  could  swear  there  was  something  peculiar  about  him . 

            with  small  steps ,  the  blonde  approached  the  stranger ,  hands  clasped  together  in  front  of  her  body .  ❛ excuse  me ,  sir …  are  you  the  wizard  pendragon ? ❜  a  pause ,  violet  eyes  glancing  around  for  a  brief  moment  before  setting  on  him  again .  ❛  i'm  terribly  sorry ,  you  seem  busy  but  i  was  hoping  we  could  talk .  it's  my  husband ,  he's  not– …  he's  been  cursed ,  and  i  don't  know  how  to  help  him . ❜

Sadness. Despair. Anguish. He sensed it before the young woman appeared before him. She radiated her feelings as she went and he had to look up when she was close enough. If he hd a heart, it would ache, but it still made him feel for her nonetheless. This was the wife of the Prince Maleficent had cursed. The Princess she’d been chasing down had just been a character in a story to him but now she was here and he wasn’t sure he’d e able to help her.

“I am. Call me Howl, please.” He motioned for the chair across from him to offer her the seat. He closed the tome he was reading and let his mind start turning in search of an answer. “Yes, I’ve heard of it. I truly am sorry that you are going through this. Maleficent can be quite cruel. She’s a fearsome adversary.” 

🌹 ⠀  ⠀ ⠀  ⠀ ───────────     seth   had   not   known   true   peace   until   theo   came   into   his   life.   suddenly,   he   was   looking   at   the   world   with   a   new   lense   and   not   the   rose-tinted   one   he   aimlessly   had   walked   with   prior.   he   know   understood   why   his   father   opted   for   the   bubble   he   had   created   with   his   mother.      “   yes,   feline.   ”      the   princes   began.      “   you   swat   my   affection   most   of   the   time   but   then   there   are   the   rare   times   when   you   actually   might   like   me.   ”      and   oh   did   the   prince   relish   in   those   moments.      

theodosia   pendragon   was   a   tough   nut   to   crack   but   seviathan   charmont   was   oh   so   deeply   in   love   with   her.   he’d   remain   the   most   patient   man   in   the   world   if   it   meant   he   had   the   privilege   to   be   in   her   space.   seth   hadn’t   expected   the   kiss.   most   of   the   time   his   teases   were   met   with   taunts   yet   theo   had   actually   kissed   him   and   the   prince   went   wide   eyed   and   immediately   rose   to   his   full   height   again   as   he   looked   down   at   her   bewildered.   of   course   their   first   kiss   would   be   like   this.      “   i   don’t   think   you   kissed   me   long   enough,   little   witch.   maybe   if   you   kiss   me   again   i   won’t   be   a   frog.   ”      

Her face reddened at the comparison. She knew that he said it with affection as anything else he had to say to her but was she that way, really? She hadn’t meant to be. She could see now after some time of him practically breaking down her door that Seth was a good man and that he did really feel a lot for her. That didn’t stop it from being terrifying but it helped ease her into the idea that she could possibly return the same feelings without it hurting her in the long run. “Cats just need to be around the right person to let their guard down.”

She watched his reaction with glee like she would any spell that went well. She hadn’t really known she’d kiss him until she did. There was a part of her that wanted to just give in and let the Prince love her but the louder part reminded her that her heart was soft and she couldn’t unveil it without being absolutely sure it would survive. She grinned and looked up at him, “Well, as an expert on magic, I don’t think so but you are welcome to try again. It’s not like I’ve never been wrong before.”

“Whaaat?” he jokes, laughing lightly. Setting down the greasy bag on the kitchen bench, he opened it up and the strong scent of cheese and salsa wafted up. “Nacos are from Bueno Nacho. Admittedly, they’re not exactly the healthiest food in the world but they’re very indulgent. If you’re up for trying it, I got a whole Naco for you,” he smiles. “And also if you don’t end up not liking it, please don’t feel like you have to finish it,” he adds quickly, sliding the bag over to her.

Theo shook her head as she placed her boookmark in the book. She set it on the coffee table to see what concoction her roommate had brought for her. “I’ve seen Bueno Nacho but I don’t think I’ve eaten there.” She grabbed the bag and opened it. It’s not like she’d never had fast food or eaten Mexican food. It did smell good. “Alight, I trust you. I always have to try something once.” She smiled as she unwrapped the naco and took a bite. “Oh, wow, Marcel this is yummy.”

shutting the door of their apartment behind him, marcel smiled at theo. “i come bearing a potential gift of an extra naco,” he smiled, lifting a paper bag bearing the logo of bueno nacho, and a considerable greasy stain at the bottom. “i ordered one but they gave me two. have you ever tried a naco before?”

Theo was engrossed in her book. She was trying to figure out how to enhance one of her mom’s plants when Marcel walked in. She looked up from where she was tucked into the armchair. She had no idea what Marcel was on about but she smiled regardless, “A Naco? No, can’t say that I have. But you seem to be really excited about it!”
