i said this last year too—flash floods are KNOWN to happen all over the hill country. there are records of this dating from before the 1800s. you can look at the fucking rivers and SEE where previous floods ripped away the limestone. yes, climate change has a hand in the la niña pattern that brought this rain to texas, but we’ve been getting that sort of rain for centuries!!!!

that area of tx gets the same amount of rain as seattle washington, it just comes down all at once instead of being constant.

its a complex problem with city and state governments wanting money more than they want people to be safe—even WV has the warning and watch systems in place to communicate to ppl near rivers. it’s people not being educated on flood plains, flash flood patterns, not understanding why they shouldn’t build on the fucking river. it’s people’s purposeful ignorance of history and actual, observed weather patterns.

how can you look at this landscape (pedernales falls state park) and not think “damn i wonder why there are actual cliffs, what ripped up all that rock?”
