I'm sorry, is this... Is this implying there's no DYE in that rug? All raw wool in its natural colours? She fucking bred the sheep to get the colours she wanted over the course of ten years!? Holy shit.
Edit: this has gotten a huge amount of traction (fibrearts tumblr is a, uh, tight-knit community it seems!) so I am adding this note to state that I checked Lola Cody's website and can confirm: There is no dye in her work. She uses exclusively hand-spun Churro wool sheared from her home-raised sheep flock. It's all natural colours!
Does anyone care if the boulder is happy does anyone imagine the boulder to be happy? Or is everything about that other guy
rednote is the only good social media because its the only one that consistently shows me lambs from xinjiang in little hats

Dmitri Cavander (American b.1969), Ferry 5, 2024, Oil on canvas
I knew immediately this is a ferry to the San Juans where I live, and indeed on his instagram, the artist tagged Orcas Island as the location!
his other pieces in this series are so lovely. that's exactly how the light hits the benches in real life. really beautifully captured.
Photo I took on the same route a few weeks ago. He nailed it.
the “british food bad” stereotype is stupid to begin with but i think it’s especially stupid to have a problem with beans on toast. if you’ve ever had a chili dog you’ve already had the two essential ingredients together

Ugh who closed last night, twisted amalgamations of flesh and fur are everywhere 😑 🧹
OCD recovery is cosmically unfair because it's the only disorder i know of where the treatment is 'okay! now make yourself feel worse'
depression recovery: go for a walk. eat some nice food. meet with a friend. be kind to yourself.
OCD recovery: okay, so it's very important to accept that we cannot definitively rule out that you are mega-hitler, and you may have caused 9/11

truly mystified by what people perceive to be blonde hair. if that shit is not light and very yellow how is it not fucking brown hair. I know a lot of people who were blonde as children continue to identify as such as they get older because of like white supremacy making being blonde feel more desirable than the alternative or something but this is crazy
My natural hair is considered light brown by most Americans, but considered like a “dark blonde” by my in-laws who grew up in El Salvador.
Perceptions of blondness is fairly culturally specific and in regions where people tend to be darker in hair and complexion, what we consider “brown” in a more white dominated nation will be considered blonde. Not sure if that is universal or just specific to that part of Latin America, but it was the first time I was confronted with the idea that I would appear “non Aryan white” to white people and “ultra Aryan white” to non American non white people.
It was an interesting perspective shift. Because I grew up in this context, I would not consider myself blonde past age 3 which was the last time my natural hair was bright and yellow. But it’s hard to deny to people with thick nearly black in color hair that yeah my hair that’s several shades lighter is a totally different unrelated color and is not merely a much lighter shade of their hair color.
Something to consider, I don’t know.
I can confirm as someone who's only ever lived in Santiago, Chile! Yes! I don't think Chileans specifically would see you, as a dark blonde, you strike me as a brunette whose hair is just nowhere near black at all.
Our concept of what counts as dark blonde vs light brunette hair is very different from the way these are perceived by people from white dominated countries, especially the further away from the Mediterranean type of white they are.
Sometimes gringos really astound me with how unless that shit is near platinum blonde it's just not even a dark ashy blonde to them. I'm also often like ??? at the way gringos treat a mid brunette hair color like it's an off-black color. 🤷🏻♀️

The Black Saint And The Sinner Lady by Charles Mingus
haven't made an album post in a minute so here's today's. i never listened to charles mingus (that I know of) before now and i feel like this was a great introduction. it goes crazy in basically every sense but never alienates which is a difficult balance to achieve imo. great momentum through the whole 39 minutes too. definitely one i think people need to hear!
