"No I actually think I'd be more coordinate if I was taller," Morty argued. He had no real case for his reasoning. Chances were, being taller would just make it worse. Expectantly if he wasn't used to being tall.

But, that wasn't going to stop him. As much reason as Morty had, he also was still a 14-year-old boy. Not the best person for making decisions.

"ONE TIME IS TOO MANY! I TRUST YOUR FATHER TO CHANGE A LIGHTBULB MORE THAN YOU. DO YOU REALIZE HOW PATHETIC THAT SOUNDS? JERRY. JERRY IS A MORE COMPETENT LIGHTBULB CHANGER THAN YOU. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE, MORTY? TELL ME HOW THAT IS POSSIBLE!"

"That's not fair" Morty complained "dad's taller than me! He- he doesn't have to reach as high. I have to stretch AND stand on a ladder! Do you have any idea how humiliating that is?"

Hold on...

Was that a fucking garden hose? He glanced down at the hose and then back to Jerry. Honestly, at this point, even though he was pretty sure that was just a hose, he wasn't going to risk it.

Or maybe he would. The Sheriff wasn't exactly known for being bright.

But at least he was able to put two and two together for one thing. "Another dimension? Ya mean this isn't Nevada?" He took an experimental step sideways. Maybe if he could just keep talking he could slowly make his way to the garage door and make a break for it.

"No this is Earth. We have a Nevada here. My wife and I went on vacation there." He knew this probably wasn't the same place. Rick had been lazy enough to portal to a place he could just fly or drive, or hell even walk to.

"I'm a human. This is what humans look like. I'm about as average as it gets. Maybe a little below. But uh..

One of the bullets managed to ricochet off several important looking objects, and then smashed into the device that was actually keeping the portal open. Needless to say, the portal closed.

Sheriff backed himself against the washing machine, still attempting to fire his now empty gun. He looked terrified. Terrified of Jerry of all people.

"Y-yes...I-I mean. No. I mean. I'm askin' the questions here, and ya better be willin' to answer unless you want a hole through your head!"

He said as if he wasn't still trying to fire an empty gun.

Jerry aimed it at the stranger, and clicked it over to jet mode.

"Noooo" he said, "I'm not the one who just walked through a random portal to another dimension here! You are going to answer to me or I'll shoot you with this super deadly earth gun!"

He actually sounded like he was putting his foot down for a change. He just hoped the stranger wasn't going to call his bluff.

"Alright, Jerry. For plot related reasons, I've set this portal to not automatically close. As tempting as it might be, DO NOT GO THROUGH IT." Rick jabbed at Jerry's chest with a finger, emphasizing his point. "Reality in that dimension is super unstable, and they don't need someone like you going in and fucking things up more."

Though Rick himself was also playing with fire, going in there to retrieve Dissonance. The very energy that was responsible for fucking Nevada up so badly. Why did he need it? Because it was Rick. He probably wanted to make his own SCP 294 or something.

Rick grabbed Morty and got in his ship, then flew threw the portal.

Meanwhile, in Nevada, the portal had led to a giant, empty stretch of dessert. Surely no one would come and investigate it, right?

Well, mysterious glowing green portals weren't exactly common, and it didn't take long for news of its appearance to get back to the Sheriff. And seeing how it was his job to keep Nevada safe, it was apparently his job to investigate it.

Flash forward to the Sheriff, standing outside the portal, staring up at it. "...ya think Nexus is involved in this somehow?" He asked one of the grunts standing next to him.

"Unlikely." They said. "Most of Nexus's experiments radiate purple, not green. ......you think you should go in and investigate? What if it's something from SQ?"

"...Ugh. I guess yer right..." The Sheriff rubbed the back of his neck, eyes fixed on the portal. Even if it was an SQ portal, that meant dealing with Doc, and possibly Hank. But...it was his (self appointed) job to protect Nevada from threads soooo...

Sigh. Pulling out his revolver, he forced himself to go through the portal, expecting to end up in Nexus or Doc's garage or something. And while he did end up in a garage, it wasn't like anything he was expecting.

There was color. Lots of color. The opened door revealed trees along the street. And...HOLY SHIT WHAT IS THAT ABOMINATION?!?!

But, Rick didn't say he couldn't look, right? It wasn't like he hadn't seen the portals before, or even gone through them. But it staying open was new. If things in that place were really that bad maybe him and Morty needed a quick escape. Or, maybe this was some kind of test to see if Jerry would listen to Rick. He let out a scream when Sheriff did, and fell back on the floor. Jerry frantically scrambled back and threw his arms up in front of his face.

After a few seconds, Jerry relaxed a little and he stared up at the stranger.
