An aside: While the comfort and safety of fans is clearly not a top priority to everyone, it should be noted that aggressively negative behavior towards a fanbase is a great way to lose any and all goodwill your audience may have towards you -- and, eventually, your audience altogether.
If you prioritize your own comfort and "rights as a person" (read: repeatedly demean/mock fanwork and endorse the harassment of other real human beings for things you personally dislike, including while actively seeking out things that distress you) over the wellbeing of others, you are being an asshole. If you are willing to flirt with other people as a joke but balk at people taking that (frankly tired and at times downright homophobic) joke seriously, you are being an asshole. If you are willing to take inspiration from fanwork that you enjoy, with or without crediting it, and still insist on being able to dictate what people can and cannot make based on your own moral standards, you are being an asshole.
Distress and disgust at fanwork you do not enjoy is completely valid. Requesting that it not be taken into spaces you manage or otherwise shown directly to you is totally fine, and if people insist on breaking the rules of your community space then that is absolutely a bannable offense. We would even personally go so far as to say that, should you be the type to "lurk" in your AO3 or Tumblr tags and happen to by sheer bad luck stumble on something that you dislike to an immense degree, quietly and without fanfare blocking/banning someone that you are personally uncomfortable with being in your community spaces is, in the grand scheme of things, relatively inoffensive. If you are actively seeking out things that distress you for the purpose of crossbanning those who create it, however, you are -- once again -- being an asshole.
We do not say this oft-tread punchline lightly: you are going to lose subscribers. You are going to lose the core backbone that makes up fandom, you are going to lose any respect your audience has for you, and the spaces you frequent and manage will begin to be considered unsafe by others. There are plenty of people who are the most polite, respectful, well-meaning, and boundaries-following individuals you could possibly want in a fandom*, and many of them will be driven away by this sort of behavior. You will instead be curating a fanbase full of those who can tolerate and potentially even engage with stalking, harassment, threats, and outright harm to others that you personally deem unacceptable.
*(We're talking model citizen by even the strictest standards. People with next to no interest in shipping (or smut, or RPF), who are actively engaging with community and seeking to bring in new fans, whose fanwork all falls fully within the bounds of the "acceptable" even when posted in private spaces, who are loudly and proudly allies for marginalized folks and are invested in deterring bigotry whenever possible.)
We are already seeing people actively distressed by the actions and behaviors of people they assumed they could trust (as role models or otherwise) -- and while the refrain no one you look up to is better than you are still applies here and may be cold comfort for us, that does little to alleviate the very real and material impact of people being soured on your work for good.*
*(And also, people will get hurt. Doxxing, persistent harassment, stalking, death/assault threats, falsified accusations, bigoted comments, the whole works. But even if that's less important than your own comfort so long as that stuff never touches you directly, it still hurts your bottom line and broader reputation to be associated with this sort of thing.)
We do not think having engaged in this behavior makes someone a bad person. We do not think having outdated, iffy, or misinformed beliefs makes someone a bad person. We do not consider speaking overly harshly at times or having an unawareness of one's impact on others to be a cardinal sin. It is, however, room for improvement and growth.
And by the way. When we make posts like this, we do so with the intent to inform and in the hopes that people can consider them in good faith as constructive advice, albeit with a bit of a dire tone. We believe strongly that even the worst people can change and that the presence of community has the ability to do real and tangible good.
Attacking people and taking their misinformed or questionable commentary out of context/in the worst light possible as an attempt to shame them into "better" behavior is something we consider unacceptable. If you are intentionally being incendiary about people wording things somewhat thoughtlessly and using that as grounds to look down on or belittle them, you are also being an asshole.
You are not a person acting in a vacuum. None of us are, this is a public space, and the way you choose how to communicate about others you disagree with says a lot about you. Be constructive and welcoming. Take people in good faith and assume they want to be kind to others. Do not punch down. Be better goes for you, too.
Welcome back to Empty letters, a Legundo-centric oneshots collection! I have some stuff for you, and today on our menu is Eight and the Traveler in about 1000 words.

Alrighty. A lore summary on the series Dnd Trog was in prior to sbk season 2
and additional thoughts
Basic rundown
Caverns & Creepers is a series featuring DrTrog, Zombified_TRav, and SkyWillDie. All three have vods/videos on youtube but I’ll mostly be focusing on Trog’s pov for this recap.
CcTrog compiled and tweaked a modpack to give minecraft a DND/RPG feel to its gameplay — meaning players could customize what abilities they have with spells and magic, there’s unique terrain and structures to explore and loot, it contains lots of creatures that can either help or hinder you, it’s heavily modded on items/tools/armor, and has mobs known as mini-bosses or bosses that you can battle.
The mods include but are not limited to:
Iron’s Spells n’ Spellbooks
Embers Rekindled
Evil Craft
Occultism
Forbidden & Arcanus
Creeper and Enderman Overhaul
Divine RPG
Mermod
Journey Into The Light
Aetherworks Refracted
The series itself is a casual letsplay with exploration of the modpack, alongside the support of friends who also jokingly tormented each other. While the party has access to spells via an equipped spellbook, each person has their preferred type of magic. Iirc; TRav (warlock) has blood magic/necromancy, Sky (wizard) has holy/ender magic, and Trog (tank) is loyal to occultism.
During the first day of the server, after getting a decent amount of spells, everyone tested out their new abilities to save a village from a raid. It was a disastrous attempt. They barely succeeded. From it, they called themselves the W.O.R.S.T (World’s Only Real Super Team) and wanted to redeem themselves by becoming better and stronger. A few vods later they went on to defeat the ender dragon and other bosses with better teamwork and improved skills.
Trog’s character
They’re a dwarf with a fond love for dwarven technology and a distaste for certain magic. When they come in contact with water, they become a mer-dwarf! While they may appear calm, there’s a lot going on that can make them very vocal and expressive, they do not shy away from speaking their mind.
They mention coming from cave/mining dimensions where “it’s just a big cave” and the outside doesn’t exist. Because of this, they’re very judgmental and disapproving of overworld caves, which implies that their first home is grand and impressive. Caves with valuable resources and no distractions are to their liking.
In the beginning, they didn’t like engaging in combat with monsters if it wasn’t necessary, often reacting in fear, caution, or annoyance. Over time, they got more confident with battling monsters and would help out their friends from danger. They grew into the role of the Tank by being more willing to jump into action, like putting themself on the front line to fight off enemies, going into a dangerous area first, and fighting bosses in close range. They could also give extra health to everyone when needed. Their determination to protect their friends steadily grew, too. At one point they personally took out a sneaky little monster that kept killing Sky.
According to them, “A big part of dwarven technology is smelting. It’s just common practice, really.” They were very proud to show off a machine that collected a power source called Ember from underneath bedrock, and Ember is a crucial resource for dwarven technology.
Some little scenes that stick out to me
TRav: Hi
Trog: [casually] I saw you doing evil things.
TRav: You do know evil is just a matter of perspective, right?
Trog: [agreeing] Yes. Of course.
Interesting. Noting that down.
Sky: Uh. Here, Trog. [Drops a book on the ground] Here is— Trog! Wait, there you are.
Trog: [looks at the book’s description] Eww.
Sky: …That is just made for flight.
Trog: Magic? [makes a gagging noise]
Sky: But you only have 30 seconds-
TRav: You have a book on your hip* so what are you talking about? What are you complaining about?
Trog: It’s- it’s holy magic.
LMAO Trog said fuck that shit.
*Equipped spellbooks appeared on the side of a player, so it looked like they were carrying a book by their hip. These offer tons of spells, but it was up to each person to decide the amount and type to use. Trog’s favourite was Burning Dash as it helped them move around quickly, any others were used for necessity (Fortify for extra health, and a small handful of attack spells for battle). They also had significantly less spells compared to Sky and TRav.
Using holy magic could just feel at odds with occultism magic? Maybe?
For context: the adventuring party had flying brooms except for Trog, so Sky gave Trog another means to fly so they wouldn’t fall behind on exploring trips. They had plans to cross an ocean to reach a new place. However, these were angel wings that only lasted 30 seconds in between cooldowns. And less than 15 minutes later…
Trog: [falls out of the sky because the angel wings vanished, dies crash-landing, and respawns far away]
Trog: [long moment of silence] Uggghhhhhhh THIS IS WHY I DON’T TRUST— this… dumb wizards and their— [defeated] oughh.
Trog: I’m gonna take my boat and I’m gonna be grumpy about it.
Trog: Those dumb wizards and their.. dumb… running and… spells that don’t work, and then you die and… fall out of the sky. Dwarves aren’t supposed to have wings. If we were supposed to have wings we would’ve been born with them. Ughh.
Trog: [travelling by boat on ocean, still annoyed] This dwarven technology… [shakes head] there’s no wings in dwarven technology, we weren’t made for wings!
This could explain why Dnd Trog agreed to join the Grounders Club. On sbk they love breeze technology and launching themself into the air: it’s not flying, but it’s something they can control and know what to expect.
Also worth noting: during the series they had different ways to “fly”, or travel by air—> the Burning Dash spell, a flying broom, a parrot familiar that made them jump really high and float and basically jump on air, and a grappling hook from the occultism mod that helped them move around in the air like spiderman. They had no problem using any of these, and actually liked how it felt to travel so freely— but they draw the line at physical wings.
Which is so interesting to me because it seems to reiterate that they like tools they can control. If it wasn’t “meant for them”, they’ll find a way around it and make it more efficient for their own needs. (Case in point: the breeze teleportation tech they’re building on sbk. Why fly to a safe zone when you can look at a specific spot in the sky and then instantly be there? Seriously, holy shit it’s insane wireless redstone)
Sky: Oh Troggers! Here, you can have this.
….
Trog: [picks up an Obsidian Skull, notably another item that grants an ability for 30 seconds] Ew. No.
Sky: No?
Trog: It looks- it’s gross. Look at it.
Sky: If you hold it in your inventory you get [laughs] fire immune.
TRav: I’ll take it!
Sorry it’s just funny to me. Local dwarf is very picky with what they’ll use. There were also other times Trog was disgusted by small things, not just magic. Something something dwarves might have high standards. Or maybe that’s just Trog.
Sky: [staring at an item he has called Surprisingly Substancial Satchel] Well right now it says… “Hetlanthorn is bound to this satchel.”
TRav: What?
Sky: [laughs]
Trog: Yeah! That’s- that’s the name- that’s the name- ok… [opens own Satchel] Let’s see what type of binding is it. Ummm. Spectral…..uhhh… that’s the spectral spirit that’s bound to your satchel.
All three: [talking over each other]
Sky: …I don’t want a spirit in my satchel!
Trog: Yeah, that’s how these works. Yeah, you put- you bind a spirit—
TRav: [overlapping] Wait. Rarylthorne.
Trog: Yeah. You bind a spacial spirit to your satchel and—
Sky: What?!
Trog: —whenever you give the spirit- so- you put your item in the satchel and the spirit—
TRav: [overlapping] Is that ethical?
Trog: ….the spirit takes it and puts it in- in the spirit dimension.
Sky: [overlapping] Oh my god. This is completely unethical, Trog.
TRav: Wait. Why do I care? I’m evil.
Trog: Yeah.
Sky: I care!
Trog: So you bind a spirit to the belt- to the satchel. And then you give the spirit your items, and the spirit will then put it in its, like, ethereal plane.
Sky: I was literally considering becoming a holy wizard and you’re saying that I’m binding up spirits?! [flies away]
Trog: [unphased, turns to TRav] Speaking of which, have you met my friend? [releases a spirit from their Quantum Catcher]
TRav: Oh! You brought him with you. [steals it]
Trog: [upset and sounding tearful] Am I gonna have to make him again? Do I have to get a different friend ‘cuz you stole my friend?
TRav places it down, Sky steals it this time and teleports away.
Trog: Where’d he go?
Sky: [appears in front of Trog] Hey what’s up? [teleports again]
Trog: Can I—….can I have my friend back?
Sky: What friend? You have no- [teleports away from TRav’s fire attack]
Trog: Obviously not! [pulls out a bow]
A very short fight later, Sky gives it back, and Trog makes it a point to mention how useful the spirit is. Remember how I said in a previous post that Dnd Trog is attached to the occultism spirits? They just about sounded like a kid that lost and then got back their shiny toy.
Btw, the achievement for summoning a spirit/demon is called Best Friends Forever.
Trog: [covered in arrows like a little porcupine after helping clear a dungeon room]
TRav: [noticing this for the first time] Oh my god! Trog!
Trog: Look. I told you I was the tank! I did my job!
XD
Trog: When I talk about why I love this dwarven lifestyle so much…this is it. This is what I’ve been trying to gather materials for, for a while. [finishes crafting] Ok. I have enough, I have enough. Ohh this is exciting!
…
Trog: This is not power generation, but a way to store power [places down a 3x3 machine called Crystal Cell]
TRav: Oh!
Sky: Woaaakayy.
Trog: Yes. We suspend a crystal of Ember in midair, and then we can fuel it with more Ember. And it will grow….
….
Trog: We can feed it more Ember and it will get bigger. But uh, let’s see, if I pull this off of the battery [gets an Ember Dial from a different contraption]…take a look…
Trog: …We can currently store 64 thousand Ember.
…
Trog: But yes. This is why I need my own workshop, people. There’s no way that I’m just doing this next to a tree.
That was a key machine that would help power other machines to do all sorts of automation. Unfortunately, some vods are missing from Trog’s pov, and I don’t exactly remember what they were trying to make with all the new stuff, but I’ll go with the important thing being: they were a happy little dwarf surrounded by cool machines :>
The party’s starter base was a giant hollowed out acacia tree, but they all wanted a more spacious base for their individual builds. There was a moment where Trog turned to TRav and said:
Trog: As soon as we get to that new base you’ll never see me again. I’ll be in a completely different dimension, doing my own dwarf thing.
SO UH. Dnd Trog travels dimensions and their trip to sbk was planned well ahead of time. Because at the end of Trog’s sbk2 episode 1, we see dwarf Trog setting up a sacrifice ritual IN THE NEW BASE.
I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEIR END GOAL IS BY BEING IN SBK
OR WHY THEY CHOSE TO IMPERSONATE GOD
WHAT.
They don’t plan on coming back to the dnd world? Apparently?? We don’t know what made them leave their original home dimension, going from caves to overworld to sky — if they’re running away from something or chasing down knowledge or just exploring the wider multiverse
But what does skyblock have for them?? It’s so empty there? Are they looking for something???? Or simply living in a trickier-mode of a world for the fun of it?
They aren’t really antagonistic as a character, despite the entire party being “a little bit evil.” If I were to guess they’re somewhere between chaotic good and chaotic neutral. They call spirits from the occultism mod ‘friends’ and see them as willing participants in dark magic. They’re nitpicky about magic in general. They’re disturbed by the treatment of villagers in sbk and won’t sleep in their name. They’ve taken up an alter ego called the Phantom Menace and kill phantoms on sight, and they’re protective of Quillbee’s life when he’s the captain (Tank instincts I’d assume). They’re diligent to get what they want, even if it means sacrificing an animal or taking the place of an alternate version of themself, and they’ll happily receive whatever’s on the other side
Personally, I don’t believe their reason for coming to or staying on sbk2 is malicious, but getting god Trog out of the picture was unfair and I’m still D: about it

1) Make sure shipping fics are appropriately labelled.
2) Ignore things with those labels
3) If you have problems with 1 or 2 which are things you can control, do not post a diatribe on the main tag telling people that they are gross and disgusting and they should leave the main tag, because that is gross and disgusting.
It’s sickening to come into this place and seeing people hating others because they do something harmless you don’t like. I am embarrassed that this is representing Hermitcraft fandom. I have no control here, I cannot stop you but the shaming has to stop.

The core problem with basically every single instance of boundaries discourse I see is that nobody seems to know what the word "boundary" actually means.
Boundaries are personal and social. They are based on mutual respect. Boundaries are not orders, they are requests, intended to establish a cause and effect: if you do this thing, I will do this other thing. "If you show me ship fic, I will block you" is a boundary. "You are not allowed to make ship fic at all" is not a boundary, that is a rule.
Rules are not boundaries. Rules are based on power and control - they are imposed upon you. This is not necessarily bad, but it must come with understanding of where they can be applied. Rules only apply where the rulemaker has control of what is allowed. And these are how many creators seem to approach what they call "boundaries". Again, this is not necessarily bad - their own twitch chats, discords, and maintags on social media ARE spaces in which they have control (some spaces more than others - maintags are shakier since creators don't have moderation power there, but that can be alleviated by creating a dni tag and asking people to place content there instead), and are therefore places where they can make rules about what they do or do not want to be shown. This is fine. Creators have the right to moderate their own spaces how they wish.
Where the problems emerge is that many creators seem to assume that they have the power to apply their rules (in the guise of "boundaries") in places that are not their own. Non-main tags on social media, archive of our own, private discords - these are locations in which the application (or lack thereof) of boundaries is no longer the choice of a creator. They do not have power; thus, any choices made by individuals in those spaces must necessarily be based only on the social agreement between fan and creator, an inherently parasocial construction. And in this case, the parasocial agreement that actually exists is not "this thing must never be created", it is "this thing should not be created or shared in my spaces".
I would argue that the primary issue in how "boundaries" are approached is a misunderstanding of how all of this works. Boundaries cannot be enforced in private spaces because there is no power relationship there. They can only be requested. As a result, when creators attempt to enforce boundaries in spaces that are not their own, what will actually happen is a series of barely-controlled harassment campaigns aimed towards people who are, by and large, following the social contract of boundaries but not the power-enforced contract of rules. And that harassment is far more of a problem than any person in a private discord writing something against boundaries. One might make someone uncomfortable.
The other gets people hurt. And that's where the line is crossed.
