so, if you want to write a character who’s really intent on being a Good Parent you’d have them putting massive effort into making their kid Grow Up Right, worrying about shit like if they have The Right Friends and they’re spending Enough Time Outside. but if you want to write a good relationship, just make parent and kid laugh together and respect boundaries and be emotionally supportive, like you would when writing a solid pair of friends or romantic couple.

verin has deirta's likeness based on the brief scene he’s in. essek, however, has almost entirely different features from his mother, so he clearly takes after his father. making essek resemble the parent he has the most contentious relationship with is a delicious creative decision.

And what was deirtas reaction to the strife between Essek and his dad?? Did she take Essek’s side when they fought?? Did she blame Essek for his dad dying? Were they even still together as a couple at the time of his death bc there’s no traces/pictures of him anywhere either, which to me doesn’t scream “fondly remembered deceased spouse”. Was their relationship a happy one, or was he a replacement for a lost lover from a past life that he could never measure up to? If their relationship wasn’t happy and they picked favorites from their kids how did that affect Essek and Verin’s relationship? We know that they love each other and that Essek trusts Verin and that Essek’s “perfect” future in the beacon includes his brother (🥺) but them being on good terms by campaign 3 doesn’t mean they always were especially at this point in Essek’s life. GODDDDDDDDDD this family kills me and we know so little about them.

I have not cared for anyone but myself for the century that I’ve been alive.
