Actual apocalyptic season 5, it’s centric to the Byers family again. Demogorgons terrorizing the town, Hawkins all but abandoned and considered a lost cause.

Instead of Holly being taken, it’s Jonathan

Will gets frustrated that his mom isn’t trying as hard as she did to get him back, playing it safe, waiting, so he takes it upon himself to sneak off, and go into the upside down himself to get his brother back.

Mike, being Mike, follows him because he can’t lose him again.

And in season 5 Mike thought he deserved to be all alone while Will deserved to be happy

It’s weird in the beginning, because for so many years he went against his wants and put a purposeful distance between himself and Mike (most physical contact is initiated by Mike!) and basically got himself used to holding back. And then, suddenly, he doesn’t have to hold back anymore, and it’s so strange and wonderful.
