“You are such a genuine sweetheart that that doesn’t even sound like a devious ploy to embarrass them, you actually just think he’s really adorable.” Scor tilted his head to one side as though surveying a puppy, fighting the urge to kiss her on the top of her head. 

“He does look adorable,” she —- well, it would be arguing, except Scorpius hadn’t really challenged her on it, and besides, she was maybe laughing a little as she said it. Not because she was joking, but laughter had always seemed the natural response to compliments for Molly —- because what were compliments beyond things designed to make you happy, and what showed happiness more than it spilling out of you in a laugh? “And ‘course it’s not a devious ploy —- have I ever been devious?” she asked, pulling an innocent expression.

     “i’m just waiting for one of me in the bathtub.  i know you threw it in there,”  he said, the slightest hint of concern in his voice despite the very large grin on his face.  louis had run out of ways to express his gratitude.  still, he threw an arm around molly, admiring the picture of himself before it flashed to the next.  “you really outdid yourself.”

        molly turned in delight to her cousin, scrunching her nose as she grinned. “well, of course i did,” she said, in a tone that suggested it was the obvious and only correct course of action. “it’s a great photo and, ‘sides, your mother’s the one who tracked it down for me, so.” she pecked a kiss on his cheek. “anything for you,” she said, absolutely earnest and laughing all at once. then her eyes lit up. “oh my god, lou, we could totally recreate the bathtub one!! except in the lake uncle george helped us with, obviously, not in a bathtub, you’d only get half your height in —- but just think!”

Minnie couldn’t very well skip a birthday party for two of her family members, including a sibling, and she knew better than to try and hide upstairs somewhere until it was over so she was, only slightly begrudgingly, out socializing. At least it was the Burrow, and when she was really tired of people, she could find Grandmum Molly and listen to Celestina Warbeck. The pictures had seemed like a safe place to station herself in the meantime and not even Minnie was heartless enough to resist the sight of Louis when he was little. “That’s my favorite picture of him,” she said, turning to Molly with a smile.

Molly grinned back at her cousin. “It’s excellent,” she agreed. “Can you believe he went from being such an absolute tiny to being, like, the human equivalent of a skyscraper? It’s like, bye Big Ben! Hello Big Lou!” She paused, watching as another image showed up, this time of Louis and Minnie together back in... Molly would hazard a guess that it was right before they started First Year. “Min, can you believe we’re, like, this old? Like he’s sixteen! You’re sixteen! We’re practically ancient,” she said, in a tone which could reasonably be termed ‘verging on dramatic’.

“Ahhh, I’m so glad! They’re Lou’s favourite ba—oh my god, doesn’t he look adorable?” Molly suddenly exclaimed, cutting herself off as a picture of tiny Louis popped on the side of the shed, his smiling six year old face filling up the wood (and her easily pleased, sentimental, family-loving heart).

“Okay, so, I figure if we have the chocolate fountain there—” Molly was saying to Victoire, pointing in the recently-cleared-of-gnomes patch of fresh grass, “—and the drinks tables alongside the edge of the house, we’ve still got most of the yard to work with, as well as the shed, and we’ve got all of the essentials sorted, if the food’s still good inside? So we could add, like, I don’t know, fucking statues of Lil and Lou if we wanted. We can go wild.”

“Isn’t this the cutest?” Molly asked, spinning for her friend. She’d dropped by, ostensibly, to get some tea and cakes, but really, she wanted Penny. Well, both. Penny and cakes was an excellent combination, in Molly’s equally excellent opinion. “The dress was on sale and I found this shawl in Mum’s old trunk of stuff —- whatcha think??”

“Lou, it’ll be great,” she said, prattling on. “Like, consider: me and Frey, riding a wave in matching uniforms —- I’ll get Pen’s help finding one that’ll fit Freya, it’ll be easy —- and like, oh my god, if Mac was down, she could totally sit on our shoulders, like a pyramid!” She sucked her thickshake through the straw, and then suddenly put it down, exclaiming, “oh my god, do you think we could do it in heels?”

Molly, being Molly, was sprawled across the couch, popcorn in a humongous bowl balanced on her stomach, a veritable mountain of pillows propping up her head so she could watch the film. Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed —- a fucking classic, and Molly considered Daphne Blake a personal icon, so jot that down —- was playing, and Molly and Lucy were curled up, watching one of their classic faves. “Luce,” Molly said, pelting a piece of popcorn at her sister’s head, “if you were Velms, and a dude saved your life but also had a weird shrine built to a crazy guy who brought monsters to life who were trying to kill you, would you, like, get it, or tell him heck no?”

Wandering around Diagon Alley wasn’t Noah’s idea of a good time. There were too many people, too much going on. While the energy might once have been invigorating for her, it was just plain draining now. It was a constant worry about what could set her off, who would take notice of the scars and call her out. If people knew, if they saw, they would judge, she just knew it. That’s how society was. Wizarding society, at least. 

Trudging down the street, Noah shifted her jacket (a completely absurd for the time of year leather one), making sure the majority of herself was covered. It was an instinct now, when around other wizards, a stress she simply didn’t want to deal with. Her attention was elsewhere when she felt something thud into her, immediately bringing her eyes up, fists curled together in case she needed to react to some threat. “Thinking about me? I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not,” Noah replied, eyebrow lifting as her gaze lingered on Molly, the woman garnering her full attention now. 

Getting herself up and flashing Noah a bright grin, Molly rolled her eyes. “Of course it’s a good thing, Noah,” she said, as if to ask why on earth it wouldn’t be. “I was like, looking at those blue scarves in the window of the junk shop, yeah? And then I was thinking about Frey, and how those would look excellent in her hair, and then I was thinking about that party at like, the start of last year by the lake with the surfing when Freya and I figured how to charm the waves she made to be bioluminescent, and then obvs I thought of you because of that party and the waves, and then —- here we are!”

She very seriously considered linking her arm with Noah’s, but not everyone was quite as tactile as Molly, and it is important to remember that, Moll, so instead she clapped her hands. “So, what were you up to before Hurricane Moll came crashing through the Alley?” she asked, before tacking on, thoughtfully, “I think I would make an excellent Hurricane. They should name one after me. Fear my destructive power and whatnot.”
