btw when someone says that insect counts are going down they don't mean the cockroachs and cicadas and mosquitoes you wish death upon for almost no reason besides ew icky ugly they mean the cabbage whites and monarchs and birdwing butterflies that brighten your day, the beetles feeding the baby forest creatures you love so much, the millipedes and centipedes and flies that eat corpses so you don't get sick from whatever killed it, the bumblebees and mosquitoes and wasps pollinating your flowers, the little bugs that feed that woodpecker you see outside your window, the ants that feed all the beautiful birds outside your window, the fireflies you loved to catch as a kid, and everything but the things in your house. what's the easiest way to help bring insect counts back up? dont mow your lawn (and tell your hoa to go fuck themselves if you have one). second easiest way? donate to organizations built to bring insect counts back up. third easiest way? get seeds of native species and plant them outside. fourth easiest way? tell others to do one or multiple (preferably all but not everyone has all the resources nor money) of the above. remember that the food web is like a card tower. if you take out one of the pieces at the bottom, the entire thing comes crashing down.
