Leesa Cross-Smith's much anticipated book, Every Kiss a War, arrives in time for your long awaited summer reading. A perfect time for such a smart, heartbreaking, and genuine book. Enjoy our ravishing book trailer for Every Kiss a War, as well.
The twenty-seven stories in Leesa Cross-Smith's debut short story collection Every Kiss a War are set to the sounds of “frogs and crickets out back, steam-pulsing like a machine” and “a sad country song that hasn't been written yet.” Men and women love and leave over cigarettes and shots of kitchen table whiskey. She takes us down Kentucky roads in the back of a pickup truck to both truculent and delicate women and rough, rambling men edged with gentleness. A finalist for the Flannery O'Connor Short Fiction Award and the Iowa Short Fiction Award, this collection is a ravishing war of characters laid bare as they look for the glow and fight to stay in the light. As affecting as they are sexy and romantic, these stories burn with sweetness like firecrackers and honey as you throw them back and holler for another round.
Leesa Cross-Smith is a homemaker, living and writing in Kentucky. She and her husband run a literary magazine called WhiskeyPaper. Her work appears in dozens of journals and magazines. Find more at LeesaCrossSmith.com
I am interested in submitting some poetry, but noticed that you did not indicate how many poems you preferred for a submission in your submission guidelines. I am not in the southwest, although I've been there. I put a lot of micropoetry out on twitter as @wyrde, & there I correspond with a poet who goes by the handle @coyotesings who does live in the southwest (that might be worth your while to take an interest in). We have exchanged poetry, renga style, or just for each others appreciation.
Hey thanks for asking about subs. We're looking for 3-5 poems in a submission. You can get the complete 411 re: our sub guidelines on our Submittable page at http://mojaveriverpress.submittable.com/submit ... happy writing!
