It's the Reality.

Jagged and sharp as new rolling stones

Gems artfully cut

Each a multi-faceted soul

Precious and carried

While some have to roll

Edges glimmer just as bright

As they erode; turn dull

Sharp angles play tricks

Playing games in the dark.

Spheres catch the light

Sharing with others

They light up the night.

Don't worry, they lied.

Disco ain't dead...

Its doing alright alright alright.

This room is full of people,

a line of strangers out the door.

I'm struck with a thought

that I cannot ignore:

The scene is so familiar

Deja vu; I've done this all before...

Back in the day, I was chasing a feeling.

Roofs were raised when I hit the ceiling.

I was a fan back then.

But its all just trivial today.

How can they not see that we're going the wrong way?

Commiserrating cancers,

Though, most are benign.

Starving for answers,

Hungry for substance;

A purpose or meaning.

They devour everything,

And forget plans of weening.

Binging to cope

We're all gluttons and

our attempts lack fruit

And motivation to boot

People changing left and right

I'm strangely reluctant to follow suit...

A straight's a straight.

Our "way" is irrelevant

But our compasses need cleaning

No matter the direction

Its much easier to fall

When you're habitually leaning

Trees make less sound

if they're close to the ground.

Grounded and calm

while the world goes round

The picture gets clearer,

Turning focus away from the mirror.

Twisted plots have come unwound.

Masks have erroded,

weathered by time.

Most are lucid; transparent,

and on characters I've mostly decoded.

Good things come

And he's full of shit

No one knows how

Not one single bit

Wise men lay dead

In a shared burial pit

We all know now

The only pay we get

Why even try to succeed

And look for all the pieces that fit

If you follow the wind

It all just blows

the road will dead end

And you'll be dead on your feet

When you find hope to be much less concrete.

Doubt and fear seep into wrinkles and creases

Making sure desperate dreams rest in pieces

A reality check is what we need
