CLAIRE HERONDALE (neé BAKER) (1307 – 1367)
Neat • Art Lover • Good
— status: deceased (illness, 1367) — house: Baker → Herondale
family
Henry Baker (father) Unnamed mother
Romeo Herondale (husband)
children: — Celestria — Cassian — Finnian (deceased) — Luke (deceased) — Rowan — Rhiannon (deceased)
adopted: — Diana
life in brief
Claire was raised as the eldest daughter of a local family, taught to read, write, cook, ride, and properly manage a household from a young age -as most girls were who were expected to marry. She inherited her father’s love of horses.
As the famine began to finally come to an end , she was introduced and soon betrothed to Romeo Herondale. The two quickly became genuinely affectionate, Romeo bringing her flowers and charming both Claire and her family. They married in spring of 1324.
Alongside her dowry, Claire requested a horse of her own. Her father gifted her a silvery white mare she named Willow, who became one of her closest companions throughout adulthood.
Nearly two years into marriage Claire gave birth to healthy twins, Celestria and Cassian. Lucrezia and Anika helped much during the children’s infancy, allowing Claire moments of freedom outside the nursery riding Willow or helping around the estate instead of being cooped up inside.
After Lucrezia’s death, Claire stepped into the role of lady of the household beside Anika. During this time she survived a dangerous bout of typhoid herself, only surviving thanks to Anika’s knowledge of apocathary- drawing the two women even closer together.
Claire endured repeated grief through the deaths of sons Finnian and Luke that died soon after birth. This did not deter her from the twins however; she taught Cassian horseback riding and carefully raised Celestria in household duties, manners, and responsibility.
Later she welcomed two healthy younger children Rowan and Rhiannon. Much of the household fell upon Claire and Anika’s shoulders during those years, from taking care of four children to the animals and crops.
The Black Death devastated the Herondale family. Claire survived thanks largely to Anika’s herbal remedies while losing her daughter Rhiannon, grandson Luc, Ophelia, Tobias, and his family: Blair, and Samuel. Anika herself perished too, working herself too hard for the sake of the others in her family.
It was Claire who insisted upon adopting young Diana after Tobias and Blair’s deaths. Raising the girl alongside the remaining family gave Claire some happiness after so much loss.
legacy
Claire passed away a few years following her husband of an illness. It took her quickly and she was reunited with her family within the Herondale crypt where her and Romeo still haunt.

ROMEO HERONDALE (1307 – 1365)
Outgoing • Romantic • Goofy
— status: deceased (stroke, 1365) — house: Herondale — born: only son and heir of Tomas Herondale and Rebekah
Tomas Herondale (father, deceased) Rebekah Herondale (mother, deceased)
Maeve (sister, deceased) Anika (sister, deceased) Tobias (half-brother, deceased) Eleanora (half-sister, deceased)
Claire Herondale (wife)
children: — Celestria — Cassian — Finnian (deceased) — Luke (deceased) — Rowan — Rhiannon (deceased)
adopted: — Diana
life in brief
Romeo was born when his mother was slipping away. The childbirth was terrible and he grew up never knowing his mother whom he looked so much like.
As a child he shared a close intellectual bond with Anika, the two often reading together or playing chess through the winter months. His father Tomas remained strict with him but was normally too occupied running a house and taking care of three young children.
Romeo was only ten years old when Tomas died during the famine, Romeo unwillingly became head of household far earlier than expected. Lucrezia and Anika helped guide him through the transition and later involved him heavily in choosing a future bride.
At fourteen Romeo met Claire Baker and quickly became devoted to her. Their marriage a few years later in 1324 proved genuinely affectionate and stable, with Claire becoming his closest confidant throughout adulthood.
Two years later twins Celestria and Cassian were born. Romeo became increasingly involved in fatherhood as the children aged, especially due to his own experiences with loosing his parents so young.
Despite subsequent tragedies through the deaths of infant sons Finnian and Luke, Romeo worked tirelessly to keep the extended Herondale family closely connected through chapel visits, dinners, and shared celebrations.
Romeo later served five years at war alongside his half-brother Tobias before returning home safely. Determined to secure his children’s futures before conflict could return, he and Claire arranged marriages for both Celestria and Cassian shortly thereafter.
The Black Death shattered much of the household. Romeo survived while losing his elder sister Anika, daughter Rhiannon, grandson Luc, Ophelia, brother Tobias and his family; Blair, and Samuel, within an incredibly short span of time. He and Claire later adopted Diana, raising the young girl as their own daughter.
In his final years Romeo focused heavily on his family, raising Rowan and Diana, arranging marriages for his two sons while being a faithful husband and adoring grandfather.
Romeo is remembered as the first true patriarch who carried the Herondale family through the harshest part of the 14th century. Though burdened heavily by responsibility from childhood onward, he remained deeply devoted to both family and household, ensuring the Herondale line endured even after devastating loss.

WATTERS → HERONDALE BRANCH
— origin: Blair Sterling (Watters by marriage) becomes widowed into House Watters after Emmanuel’s death, her mother in law Rony forms a second union with Tobias Herondale, her nephew by her brother Tomas.
TOBIAS HERONDALE (1320 – 1348) Unflirty • Loyal • Insider
• Born prematurely shortly after the death of his father Tomas,
• Deeply attached to his mother Lucrezia throughout childhood, often clinging to her and struggling with separation. Following Eleanora’s death, his older siblings became especially protective and indulgent toward him.
• Known as a difficult but lovable child — stubborn, fussy with food, emotional, and intense
• Raised spending much of his youth alongside Anika in the gardens and around the farm animals.
• Shared a particularly close bond with his cousin Emmanuel Watters during childhood.
• Became deeply attached to Claire after her marriage to Romeo, especially through horseback riding and caring for Willow during Claire’s pregnancies.
• Following Emmanuel’s death, Tobias was arranged to marry Blair Watters. Eventually the marriage settled into genuine affection beneath the bickering.
• Went to war while Blair was pregnant with their first son Samuel and returned scarred but alive, later welcoming daughter Diana as well.
• Died during the plague of 1348.
BLAIR HERONDALE (neé STERLING, formerly WATTERS) (1317 – 1348) Hot Headed • Romantic • Family Oriented
Only daughter, married young into House Watters through Emmanuel. The marriage is brief and largely detached, ending with Emmanuel’s death after a duel wound. Blair remains within the Watters household under Romy’s love and protection, forming unexpected bonds with both Ivy and Sage.
Later, after pressure toward a second arranged match, she elopes with Tobias Herondale. Their relationship begins in irritation and resistance, shaped by lack of choice and mutual frustration but eventually the two settle down. She relocates to a small farm with Tobias, later inheriting the Watters meager holdings after Romy’s death through her deceased husband.
She gave birth to a son, Samuel during her husbands absence and then a daughter Diana once he had returned home and they had settled again as a family.
Dies during the Black Death in 1348.
SAMUEL HERONDALE (1338 – 1348) Firstborn son of Blair and Tobias, raised primarily by Blaire and his aunt Romy while Tobias is away at war. Initially hesitant toward his father upon return, but gradually bonds during Tobias’s final years at home. Dies during the Black Death alongside most of his immediate family.
DIANA HERONDALE (1343 – ?) Gloomy • Lovebug • Squeamish Youngest child of Blair and Tobias, later orphaned by the Black Death. Adopted by Romeo and Claire after the decimation of her household. Though she retains faint memories of her biological family, she is primarily shaped by her adoptive Herondale upbringing.
Quiet, observant, and prone to overthinking, Diana finds herself in structure and storytelling rather than domestic work. She bonds strongly with Claire (responsibility, routine), Romeo (reading, storytelling), and later develops friendships with other Herondale cousins, including Celestria and Mila.
She becomes especially fixated on books and astronomy after receiving a telescope at age ten, developing a fascination with the stars and night sky.
Later marries Corwyn Lightwood (choosing him over his originally intended brother Willum), and settles into a modest life breeding sheepdogs with him in the countryside. Currently has one daughter, Sadie.
