Local Business Owner to Speak at May 11 BridgeValley Commencement

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. - BridgeValley is pleased to announce that Dan Davis has been selected as the Spring 2018 Commencement Ceremony keynote speaker. Davis, a self-taught artist who says he learned through willpower and stubbornness, has been screen printing for over 15 years and has designed and printed work for local and national companies, record labels, musicians and non-profit organizations. He is the co-owner and creative director for lifestyle brand, retail store and print studio Kin Ship Goods located on Charleston’s West Side, and uses his storefront as a community space to host events, music and fundraisers for various social justice causes. Davis was born in Nuremberg, Germany and grew up in Idaho and Louisville, Kentucky before moving to Charleston in 2014.
This year, 572 BridgeValley students will graduate, with approximately 200 participating in the commencement ceremony. Of the students who will receive their degree, 28 completed their coursework in Summer 2017, 128 in Fall 2017 and 408 during the Spring 2018 semester. The majority of students, 384, will receive their Associates in Applied Science degree. The remaining graduates will receive a Certificate in Applied Science (109), an Associate in Science (78) and an Associate in Arts degree (4). As part of the ceremony, BridgeValley Board of Governors Vice Chair Don Stewart will provide a short speech before students receive their degrees.
BridgeValley’s Spring 2018 Commencement Ceremony will take place at the Charleston Civic Center, 200 Civic Center Drive, Charleston, 25301 on Friday, May 11 at 6:30 p.m. Parking is available, $3, at the Civic Center parking garage or at the Charleston Town Center Mall’s Lee Street and Quarrier Street parking garages, $1.75. The BridgeValley Veterans Club will be selling flower bouquets at the ceremony. All proceeds will benefit the BridgeValley Veterans Affairs Office and Veterans Club.
