I’m getting to a point where I really don’t have time for leftist pacifists, even in a politely dismissive way. I’m not in favor of all out war and chaos, but on some level you have to stop categorizing the violence of legislation as being different from more “direct” forms like assault and murder.
There’s plenty of legislature that directly contributes to the death of citizens, often the marginalized. And clearly, being polite about our demands is not as effective as having one group of people who are polite and another group standing slightly behind them with pitchforks to remind everyone of the consequences of not playing nice, too.
like you said in your tags, it's such a white and privileged attitude to have. very easy to say that people should only use nonviolent forms of protest when you've never had to fight for your civil and human rights.
imo it's just a way for them to rationalize their cowardice. what they mean is that they're scared of how the establishment will respond to "violent" forms of resistance. they know that the establishment's response is often indiscriminate (see: renee good and alex pretti), and they're afraid of being caught up in that. which is obviously the fault of resisters and not the system we're fighting, so those are the people we should be condemning 🙄
