The Spoon only Rests

So, Sacramento pride starts is this weekend.  I’m thinking about going for one night.  Anyone want to join me?  

Now that...might be worth disappearing from the inn for.  

One of my best friends just found out that her boyfriend has been cheating on her with another guy, she been crying to me over the phone asking what she did wrong.

Well that’s a rather...delicate situation.  Rather begs the question how you’re replying, my dear.

“But you could always suggest what you would’ve liked when you were a student,” Josh added with a slight shrug. There was a faint blush on his cheeks as he looked down bashfully, “Thank you.” Josh smiled brightly, “Yes. A very much needed one. I haven’t seen my family as much as I’d like to. Didn’t you enjoy your time back at home?” he asked quite confused. “You know me, I’m always up to work. I must admit I’m quite torn. I’m happy that you both are living together now, but I lost my roommate and that has taken some adjusting,” Josh admitted with a somewhat sad voice. “I am looking to learn more and I would like to go back to the rest.”

“True enough.  I suppose that would be options.  And exposure to a wider range of things than simply my dedicated coursework.  The things no one tells you of in the real world.  A simply accounting class for most students,” Mitchell replied with a little tease.  He nodded and gave a little hum, listening with a soft smile.  “Oh it’s most definitely a need.  A recharge of the batteries.” He gave a little laugh.  “It was nice to see them, as strained as it could be from time to time.  But a bit too long.” He gave a small smile and nodded.  “You know you’re always welcome at the Rest.  And when you get back, look in.  We’ll see what we can’t do about getting you back in harness in the kitchen.”

“Do you regret this path?” he asked even more interested now that he knew more of the hotelier. “It’s the truth. And I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who notices it” he nodded. “I might stop by to bug you and Easton a little bit” he winked. “Seriously? My mom will really love the idea. I’ll ask when is her next Friday off and then I’ll let you know”

“No, not especially.  It’s been a pleasant diversion these last few years.  One I’m not quite done with, I don’t think,” Mitchell replied with a bright little smile.  “More flattery my dear.  If only I could translate that to Yelp and TripAdvisor.  I’m afraid I’ve slipped some in my absence,” he replied with a little sigh.  “Oh please do.  He’ll be bored three days in and won’t know what to do.” He hummed and nodded with a smile.  “Utterly.  It’s my pleasure and I’ll be happy to do.  It’s usually a set, plated special with some variance in seasonal sides.  Just let me know if there are any dietary restrictions and I’ll handle the lot of it.” He so loved that part of his work, of his life.

“ In a few days, just need to finish our packing up”

“A bittersweet calendar notice to be sure.”

That’s a rather interesting proposition.  I think he’s a rather excellent focus on what he puts his mind to.  And if it were in his desire to step up, to step into a role like that at the SpoonRest, that would be a conversation I’d be willing to have.  

Want, I find, is rather outside the scope of this discussion as it so fails to characterization the relationship between us or with our individual passions.

“What do you think would be a good change to make it better?” Josh asked with a slight tilt of his head. “I appreciate it, Mitch. It means a lot to have someone you admire having a good opinion about you,” was his answer with a giggle. “It’s great to hear that. I do, I’m planning to visit my family in Mexico and then I will be back and I’ll look for a summer job. Are you looking to hire some help?”

“I don’t know honestly,” Mitchell replied with a little laugh.  “I’m afraid I don’t have that depth of educational theory to make a go at changing the system,” he murmured with a sheepish little shrug.  “You’re more than welcome my dear, and it is more than well earned.” He hummed lightly and rolled a shoulder.  “A bit of a break with the family?  I can understand the enjoyment there.  Though I’ve had a dose of it heavily recently.” He hummed.  “I might need an extra pair of hands about.  Depending on how much time Easton likes to take up being in the Rest at all hours.”  His eyes sparkled at the thought.  “Are you looking for positions already my dear?”

He frowned slightly “Really? You’ve been teaching for a long time?” he just realized that he really didn’t know much about the professor. “Sounds like it. I’ve seen very little of the SpoonRest but it does remind me of you” he smiled a little.”It makes sense you wouldn’t want to leave something so yours for someone else to manage it.” He nodded and grinned “Yeah it is. I’m thinking of spending the whole summer at home cause I haven’t seen mom that often. Would it be ok if I bring her to one of your Friday nights supper?”

“Honestly, no.  But I came here as a benefit to a friend.  It was never my passionate vocation,” Mitchell replied with a little smile.  “Then that is high praise indeed that the space can still radiate who I am.” He preened a bit a that idea, so pleased that someone else understood his motivations, at least as far as that.  “Then if you’re local, I look forward to seeing something of you this summer.” He laughed.  “But of course my dear!  Whenever you should like.  Drop me a line and I’ll save you a table.”

Logan smiled looking at him  “ Thank you”

“When do you leave officially, now that the hullabaloo is done?”
