Yamato disliked being woken up early. But, he was used to it. Unfortunately. But, he couldn’t really ever bring himself to say no to Nagi of all people, much less an excited Nagi, so he’d dragged himself out of bed and let the excitable man take him wherever it was he wanted to go.

And now all of a sudden they were standing at the top of a very tall cliff and Mitsuki was there and what the fuck was going on??

“Yeah, um, no way. Not happening. We’ll die. Like, seriously die. We’ll end up a stain on the ground and that’ll be it. Do you have any idea how tall this cliff is?? It’s like - shit, I don’t know, it’s way too tall! You don’t jump from this height and live, Nagi!”

God, just looking over the edge was enough to have Yamato’s head spinning. He stepped away, swallowing thickly. Usually he tried especially hard to hide when things frightened him, but actually seriously fuck this.

“Couldn’t you have chosen something simpler?! Like, I don’t know, wasn’t there some task about performing? That’d be easy! Why’d you pick this?!”

Ah. This wasn’t going as planned at all.

Mitsuki and Yamato were just…upset now, weren’t they? And Nagi thought he had chosen well! It was a leap of faith - everyone liked taking those, right? They had taken plenty together, during their time in IDOLiSH7. This one was just…a lot more literal!

It…had to be safe, right? The announcement that woke him up in the first place had said all of this was for data collection - not to hurt or to harm them. If they had wanted to do that, wouldn’t all of these Ofiuclones have just attacked them right off the bat?

“No, no, it’s okay! There is padding beneath the cliff, it’s just invisible! I would not lead the two of you into a situation where I think we would get hurt.” He insisted, looking over the edge of the cliff again. Sure, it was a pretty big fall…but it wasn’t terrible. He hadn’t fallen from greater heights - but he had certainly stood upon taller peaks. 

“It’s a test, it’s okay!”

Perhaps it wasn’t the smartest idea to jump right into all of this and select a task from the terminal offered first thing in the morning. And, perhaps, it wasn’t the smartest idea to proceed to wake Mitsuki and Yamato up as well by insistently calling them until they answered, just to drag them out to where the terminal said a good spot for this task would be.

But, well, sometimes the decisions that lead to the most fun ended up being the decisions that weren’t the smartest to make. Still - this was a safe task, permitted the terminal had given the correct information, so surely nothing could go wrong.

“Alright, we’re here!”

Nagi turned on his heels after stopping by the edge of Savior’s Respite’s cliffside, facing the two people he had dragged along with him. Team bonding, he had insisted. Without the rest of IDOLiSH7 around, it was certainly a team bonding exercise lacking most of it’s team…but as the three of them - as Pythagoras Trio - they could use this activity the same as they used going out for ramen or spending time with one another while everyone else was busy.

“This is an easy task! I made sure to pick one we would not have to worry about too much.” The blond knew he could handle a more difficult task, after all. His combat skills were honed to perfection, and his reflexes were sharp, but Mitsuki and Yamato…? They didn’t have that. 

“We just have to jump down to the space below! Easy, right?” 

Maybe it would be easy, were it not for the fact this was an incredibly tall cliffside. 

Simmering down, he taps his foot while he processes. There isn’t really much they can do. Aside from–

“Sleep with my eyes on, I guess.”

 That’s going to be soooo boring. However, it wasn’t as if he didn’t take frequent mid-day naps. So at the very least it wouldn’t cut into his energy reserves too badly. 

“Well at least you probably don’t have to worry about yourself. Just your possessions.”  

“Unless someone comes in and decides to start messing with your insides next…!” 

The trend of threatening seems to turn to teasing, now. Though it doesn’t make his expression any less unnerving. 

“I’ll explain one more time, and my patience is out. Whether it was a good thing or not, some stranger broke into the house. One that knows how to fix robots of my complexity. I wasn’t exactly built by some benevolent force, either. The geezer that built me is bent on his stupid world domination plans. Luckily, I want nothing to do with them.” 

That made him sound a bit too nice, maybe. 

“I do what I want to do. Don’t start thinking I’m some sort of hero or something. I live to fight.”  

Bass refuses to explain how he got the injury. And now this cutesy kid is looking down on him. Trying to be all big brotherly and all that junk. He hardly even knows him! 

“…………”

 “Do this–” he gestures at Mitsuki’s everything, “–ever again, and I’LL WATCH YOU SLEEP.” 

“Sure thing!~ I totes get buying more than you can handle carrying on your own.”

Not that this person would really know about it, but Hifumi’s shopping habits could…get a bit out of hand at times. That’s usually why he ended up driving to the store if he knew he was going to pick up more than a few things. Especially if it was a clothing store. He always seemed to come out with more suits than he would really end up wearing - but most of the time those offending articles of clothing or whatever they’d end up replacing in his closet would wind up at the club as spare uniforms if someone had the unfortunate instance of a drink or two getting spilled on them.

Hifumi carefully lifted some of the bags out of Mitsuki’s arms and settled them into his own - he’d just come back later to do his own shopping - and started following the direction the other began walking in.

“Mitsuki Izumi, huuuh? Well, it’s nice to meetcha too!”

“My name’s Hifumi Izanami! But you can just call me Hifumin!”

“Ha. Why.” Bass replies sourly. “I’ll be right back.” 

He walks upstairs again, and as he comes down, he throws his old, damaged arm onto the coffee table. It’s blown open from the wrist, loose wires and exposed framing sticking out of torn fabric and curled metal. The hand falls completely off it, outer glove charred but in tact. 

He gestures with the same arm it used to be. It’s as if it never happened; and that’s what was so odd about it. Having hid the damage well before, of course Mitsuki wouldn’t’ve noticed. 

“This is the arm I came here with. And the one I have now, is exactly the same! As if it never got damaged in the first place!” 

“A new arm doesn’t grow over night. And no normal person can do work like this. No-one should even have the kind of parts to do this kind of repair–unless it’s the old doctor who made me. Changing the locks isn’t going to keep someone like that out.” 

Mitsuki stared at the arm on the table, not really sure how to react. He blinked a few times before deciding on just pretend it’s normal.  “So... it’s... a good thing this person came?” he asked, still confused. He was glad Bass wasn’t hurt anymore. “Wait- how did your arm even get like this?!” He hadn’t heard anything about Bass being injured! Was he really that bad of a roommate?

An entire day of silence was unusual for Bass. Even being in the house for an entire day was just concerning. He’d been in resting mode up until now–he doesn’t remember his accidental fall into the hole at all. Just that he woke up now, with his arm repaired, original components and all. 

Bedroom door slamming open, Bass stands in the hallway. His fingers move articulately as he tests them. With no regard to that fact that that’s kind of creepy to look at for anyone else. 

“You’re the only other being who lives here. Did anyone suspicious come through the house in the past two days?” his hand clenches into a tight fist.

Well, as weird as things were, a routine was easy to fall back into. 

A roommate did make it easier, since he was able to fall back into cooking and cleaning for someone else. Especially cooking! He had a whole new set of tastebuds to try recipes out on ( now he could actually use cilantro too, since Doppo was weird and didn’t like how it tasted ) and a new person to get opinions from. 

But it also meant earning money was like…weirdly hard, compared to how it used to be. He was just too used to the lofty salary of a top host, apparently. 

Oh well! Ingredient shopping was still the same, he just had to keep an eye on how much he was spending. Standing in this marketplace, though, it seemed like he wasn’t the only one struggling with buying too much. From where he stood, he could see a younger boy trying to juggle a couple of bags. Maybe he needed help…?

“Heya!”

“Need some help with those bags, buddy? I can carry one or two for ya, if you want!” 

This guy was excited for all the wrong reasons. He’s the best robot, better than Megaman of course, hardly anyone has seen technology like him, duh and what’s a Roomba–his train of thought ends abruptly as he stares at the hand hovering and how close the other is becoming to him. 

Bass grabs for his shirt to pull him down to his eye level. 

“Don’t touch me unless you intend to fight me.” 

Too friendly!!! This guy is too friendly! 

He’s a threat, damnit! He just explained that!!

He put his helmet back on, as if his privacy had been invaded. Bass isn’t used to having it off anyhow–he forgets it even comes off usually. All of his brothers are the same, after all. Their heads don’t come apart like his. He’s a special number, after all. The first special number. The only special number. 

…for now. 

He can’t really object to this, can he? 

“Fine. Guess I don’t have to worry about you stealing E tanks or anything. Don’t expect me to clean up after you–and don’t touch my stuff. Don’t wake me up unless you want your head blasted off, either. Not that I hate you yet, but I’m jumpy going back online. So it’ll be your own damn fault.”  

His eyes finally emulate blinking. 

“People around here really aren’t used to robots, huh? What did you think I was? Some sort of costumed idiot?” 

He hasn’t been in such a nice place since…well. Dr. Light’s place. Arch rivals and all, he wasn’t there for long. It was a conflicting time he’d rather not think about. 

“Better than that abandoned bowling alley, but I really liked that place…” he mused out loud. Laying on the hood of a broke down sports car, shooting pins to figure out what to do that day. But Dr. Wily’s place had video games, if he didn’t have to fight his junk brothers for his turn. 

Without thinking, he takes his helmet off, and immediately the ‘guest’ can see, his odd excuse for ‘ears’ aren’t exactly attached to it. As used to dozens and dozens of robot roommates as he was, he didn’t think this was the situation. 

“You just invite yourself in? I live here, what do you want?” 

Mitsuki blinked as the stranger took of their helmet. Either that was an incredible cosplay, or... Well, Mitsuki didn’t know what.

“H-huh?” he asked, still dumbfounded by the other’s appearance. He put his hands up placatingly. “I just got here, but I think we’re supposed to be roommates,” he said, trying to offer a friendly smile.

If this person (he was just going to go with person, for now) wasn’t wearing a costume, then they seemed like some kind of robot? Android? What was the correct terminology here? Wait, when had technology progressed far enough to make a robot (android?) this complex?!
