Force kids in school to read crappy, overrated books that are “the best books ever written” solely because they’re “classics” and then call those kids idiots because those aren’t the kind of books they like to read and sit back and wonder why we have a nation full of multiple generations worth of people who willfully and proudly refuse to read.

Yes well the shitty little teen lit books you (probably) like (correct me if I’m wrong please I don’t want to assume things) are fleeting and are definitely not works of art. Good for pleasure reads, but not going to become anything timeless. The classics are classics for a reason. I am a huge English buff and this is highly offensive. I’m sorry you don’t understand the classics, but you have to look at them from another angle. The plots might be boring and outdated but if you think that’s all they’re about I’m sorry you missed a key part of them. Writing is not just about the plot. It’s an art.
