               OH  DEAR ,  OH  DEAR ,  OH  DEAR     !          ALL  THAT  GOES  AROUND  IN  SCARLET’S  HEAD   as  she  stumbles  her  way  back  in.  FAR  too  late     //     and  far  too  dizzy.  wishing  everything  would  stand  still  as  she  sways  to  and  fro ,  trying  her  very  best  not  to  wake  anyone  up.   BOYS     !          she’ll  never  trust  them  again ,  she  promises.  it’d  seemed  so  easy     !          someone  talking  to  her  so  nicely.  one  drink ,  they’d  said     ——     ONE  DRINK     !          and  now  she’s  full  of  giggles     &     muddled  thoughts.   quiet  as  she  can   .  .  .     careful  as  she  comes  through  the  door.  jumping  practically  out  of  her  skin  to  see  another  there.          “     oh     !     ”          her  own  hand  CLAMPS  over  her  mouth  as  she  pushes  her  back  against  the  now  closed  door ,  trying  to  calm  a  thundering  heart  before  she  can  speak  again.          “     sorry   .  .  .     oh ,  please   .  .  .     i  thought  everyone  would  be  asleep   .  .  .     i  thought   .  .  .     ”          her  words  are  a  jumbled  mess ,  trying  to  EXPLAIN  herself          (     even  to  a  girl  she  doesn’t  know     ).          “     oh ,  i’m  a  mess.  ah  .  .  .     please  don’t  tell  anyone.     ”

               HE  HUMS  A  TUNE  TO  HIMSELF ,  A  SMILE  LOPSIDED     &     a  mind  dulled  by  the  taste  of  whiskey.  arms  outstretched  as  if  dancing  with  an  imaginary  partner          (     a  glass  still  held  in  one  hand ,  however ,  and  a  CIGARETTE  in  the  other     ).          so  wrapped  up  in  his  own  rhythm  is  he  that  he  hardly  notices  anyone  around ,  in  fact.  a  mighty  thump  as  he  moves  into  a  dramatic  SPIN     &     bounces  straight  off  the  chest  of  someone  unfortunate  enough  to  be  nearby.  stance  stumbles     /     barely  staying  on  his  feet     /     alcohol  SPILLING  across  a  shirt     &     tie  already  half  undone.  surprise  in  his  expression  turns  quickly  to  laughter ,  however.  hardly  bothered  by  his  own  state ,  rather  that  of  the  man  opposite.          “     mmm     !          terribly  sorry     !          so  clumsy   .  .  .     ”          slurred  words  in  good  cheer.  gaze  wanders  over  the  other  as  he  steps  unsteadily  closer  again.          “     ‘re  you  alright     ?          ‘m  terrible  clumsy   .  .  .     ”

               THIS  IS  ALL  STILL  NEW  TO  HER     //     A  LOT  TO  ADJUST  TO.   a  country     &     people     &     expectations  unfamiliar  to  her.  hell ,  a  WAR  going  on     !          it’s  hard  to  believe  it’s  all  happening.  scarlet’s  stayed  pretty  quiet  so  far ,  perhaps  expecting  to  be  made  fun  of  over  her  accent  or  age  or  just  about  ANYTHING          (     that’s  what  happens  at  home ,  after  all     ).          so  the  other  girl’s  voice  catches  her  by  surprise     ——     jerked  out  of   anxious  daydreams   to  look ,  most  probably ,  like  a  rabbit  in  the  headlights  in  the  face  of  having  been  asked  a  question.  seconds  passing  before  she  begins  to  BLUSH     //     a  vague  attempt  at  a  smile  to  cover  her  shyness.          “    um   .  .  .     what  did  you  ask ,  sorry     ?     ”

ANY  MUSE.     kiss  them  or  fight  them.  they  need  enemies  and  love.

               “     HAVE  YOU  ACTED  MUCH  BEFORE     ?     ”          HE  HALF  GLANCES  UP  TO  HER ,  attention  primarily  taken  with  a  stack  of  papers  before  him.  eyes  skimming  over  the  words     /     pen  in  hand     /     making  a  notation  here     ——     a  scribble  there.          “     you  look  very  young.     ”
