Searching for Jacob Ellis

Hello and welcome to my blog!

It’s dedicated mostly to Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery. I’m caught up with the main story, and I do commentary for new chapters pretty regularly. From time to time, I do bigger, more in-depth analyses as well. In the latter case, I usually try to make it clear what part of the story it concerns, but keep in mind that there are spoilers here, and I won’t be warning about them every single time.

On top of that, while I rather don’t post NSFW content, it is not a “family-friendly” blog. There might be some tasteful nudity, adult humour, or mentions of violence etc. Also, I personally swear quite a lot. So, if it’s something that troubles you - you’ve been warned.

And what exactly you can expect to find here?

First things first. In this house, we stan Patricia Rakepick, and here’s a detailed explanation why. Of course, I’m not saying that you have to like her too. Absolutely not. However, if you hate her guts to the point that you can’t be bothered to read what I have to say and consider the possibility that her role in the story might be different than it seems – I just can’t guarantee you’re gonna have a good time here since most of my content is based on this idea.

Another important concept I use in my posts is that Jacob we found in the Portrait Vault is not real. You can find the most important information about that in The Fugly Slut Masterpost.

These are the most important things, meaning that it’s obviously not all. Whenever I write a more detailed post, I’m using one of the tags:

theory – these are usually longer posts with more evidence and more developed conclusions.

analysis post – here we have pretty much anything collecting information from various points of the story. It could be close to theory, semi-theory, or simply pointing out Jam City’s stupid writing decisions… It’s a pretty broad group.

about characters – these are basically analysis posts focused more on characters (than just the story itself).

Now, the most important thing for me is my beloved child which is the series called “Secrets and Riddles”. It focuses on the relationship between Jacob Ellis and Patricia Rakepick, but I plan to eventually turn it into a re-write, starting from Y4. Guess who moved to the town.

Oh, I honestly believe Patricia would be a pretty great mother.

(To be clear, I'll be talking just about Patricia pre-Portrait Vault.)

First of all, she's super protective while making sure the person she cares about is capable of taking care of themselves. The very first thing she taught MC after arriving at Hogwarts was Protego. She also wanted to be absolutely sure that we're prepared before sending us to Knocturn Alley in Year 5. Yes, she had that dubious line back then...

But still. She also keeps her finger on the pulse just in case, so she can step in later on, when MC and their companion need it. On top of that, it's not just MC she cared about because right before the Portrait Vault, she said:

And yes, I know that what happened later suggests she was lying. However, that's one of the biggest reasons why I believe her story was supposed to look very different. Because it just doesn't make sense for her to lie in that very moment. She never brings it up again, she doesn't try to use it to manipulate MC... So, why put it there at all, if not to foreshadow that Patricia actually genuinely cares (just her methods might be questionable)?

So, I think Patricia would be a mother who does everything to prepare her child for the outside world. As for her weaknesses, I suppose this scene from Y5Ch12 portrays it pretty well (the thief she mentions is Peter Pettigrew):

I guess she might've been not the most warm and affectionate mother. Although it's kind of hard to say for sure. Yes, it seems that's what she thinks about herself, and she gives such an impression as well. That being said, I believe she wants to be perceived as cold, unavailable and whatnot. So, who knows what she's really like in private? Especially since we see time and time again that she does care.

Another thing is that she might've been quite demanding and expected her child to be the best at pretty much anything (just as she is). And even if not, I imagine it'd be quite hard for said child to live up to others' expectations (or with their prejudice). Y'know, to constantly hear things like: "Oh, you're Rakepick's kid? I bet you're X and Y!".
