Prologue - Favors and Bouquets
It all started with a favor for one of his teammates.
For some reason Caleb was chosen to be a flower delivery man, since his teammate let it slip his mind on the day of their anniversary.Ā
And the blonde became the chosen one, due to him running late, but with the promise of a free meal from his teammate.
āIām already fuckinā lateā¦but sureā Caleb thought, I mean who could turn down a free mealĀ

It was very quiet in the flower shop, so you were just doodling in your notebook, waiting for the hour to pass by.
Just then the familiar sound of the shopās door chime met your ears, not looking up from your notebook, expecting the customer to just walk around but then leave.
āWelcome to the Daisy Den!ā I greeted still not looking up
Just then you heard the faint āShitā¦ā the person whispered, making you look up, you saw a tall figure, with their back facing you, unable to see their face.
āExcuse me?ā you heard a masculine voice call out.
Looking up from your doodle, your breath froze
Standing in front of you, in your workplace. Caleb McDaniel.
One of the popular guys in your college, one of the top baseball players.
And a guy whoās had your attention for a bit.
āHiā¦do you need help?ā you said trying to sound calm, but you felt your heart beating at an abnormal pace, to the point it could fall out of your ass.
āYeah, uh what flowers would you think every girl would like?ā he said like heās in a rush.
āOh, I guess heās not singleā you thought feeling a slight tug on your heart, but still tried to keep your composure.
āIām sure we doā you said calmly, before leaving the register to go the main area āWhat colors does your girlfriend like?ā you asked quietly looking through the different flower options.
āOh I donāt have a girlfriend, my teammate and his girlfriend are celebrating their anniversary, I was made the delivery boy because Iām the one running lateā he said in a voice laced with annoyance before looking at you his face softening āBut if you know your flowersā¦Iāll give you full creative freedom, what do you think would sweep you off your feet?ā he said in a more calm tone.
āWellā¦I have an idea, but it might take time, and it seems like youāre in a rushā you said looking at him, already picking a few bouquets already
He shrugged āNah, at this point the worst Iāll get is an extra lap or two, and besides my friend said heāll buy me lunch in return soā he said patting his stomach playfully āGotta make room for thatā he said smiling.
You laughed āIf you say soā¦ā heading back to the register and began working on the custom bouquet, not hearing the last sentence said under his breath.
āIf that also means I can spend a little more time with youā¦ā

The bouquet took less time then what you initially described, having done similar designs for multiple occasions, you could practically do it with your eyes closed.
āDoneā you said smiling gently holding the bouquet towards him.
You just decided on a heart design, a small group of red roses in the middle to be shaped like a small heart, followed by some pink roses, forming a slightly bigger heart.
His eyes widened for a moment before taking the array of flowers.
āHoly shitā he said examining it āDang kinda wanna keep this know, what the fuck?!ā he continued, making me chuckle.
āIām serious! Hell I wouldāve just bought basic shit, like a couple of roses, but you? You made it mean so much moreā He said still looking at the bouquet āHow much is thisā he said reaching into his back pocket.
You shook your head āI know you said youāre fine with being late, but I donāt wanna take more of your time, itās in this houseā you said.
His eyes widened before shaking his head again āNo! Come on! Please!ā he said smiling.
You shook your head āI already took up a good chunk of your time making thatā you said motioning to the bouquet āPlease just take themā
But then he took out his wallet before grabbing a $100 bill and placing it on the register.
You opened your mouth to protest and to tell him that heās pay WAY more than what all the flowers combined cost, he beat you to it.
āKeep the changeā he said āAnd trust me this is worth being lateā he continued smiling, before finally turning around and leaving.
The bell chime from the door snapped you out of the scene that had just happened.
You looked at the singular bill on the register.Ā
Slowly picking it up, you sighed quietly looking at it
āIt was nice while it lastedā you thought as you put the bill in the cash register, slightly saddened at the fact that that could be the first and last time you see and talk to Caleb.
You couldnāt have been more wrongĀ
