Ms. Holt: The Linsly School-Fall 2021 Semester

Students were shown a live demo of graphic recording and real-life examples from the Graphic recording club. They practiced recording each others stories.

Students took turns telling stories while classmates recorded.

Students were introduced to value by learning about light sources, watching a demonstration of direct observation drawing, and creating value scales and practicing different shading techniques

Student worked on their direct observational skills by doing contour drawings of still-lifes set up in the classroom.

Students learned about the practice of gesture to build a plan for a drawing. We practiced this with Ms. Holt’s Gesture Game. Random prompts were given and students had 2 minutes to come up with an idea and gesture out a rough drawing. 

After learning about line and contour, students had fun practicing blind contour drawings of each other.
