“The patient appears to be… human.”

Hey look! I wrote something for Kaidan Appreciation Week! The goal is to write a drabble for each of my Kaidan relationships through the course of the week. Starting off with John from my mShenga Universe.

“That console’s still giving you some trouble, I see.”

Kaidan straightened, rubbed the nervous sweat from his brow. “Yeah. There’s a continuous loop inversion somewhere that I’m having trouble isolating.”

Shepard nodded. “Well, if anyone can figure it out, it’s you; I have faith in you, Alenko.”

“Thanks, Commander,” Kaidan said. He allowed himself a brief, calm smile although his heart was racing.

“And until then, I guess we’ll keep running into each other.” Shepard smiled, and Kaidan hoped he wasn’t imagining the warmth in it. “Carry on, Lieutenant.”

When Shepard was gone, Kaidan spent a few more minutes tweaking controls that didn’t need it, reading runtime protocols that showed perfect results. He was being foolish, he knew, but those brief, relaxed moments when Shepard stopped to talk had come to mean a lot to him.

Which meant that the ‘faulty’ console was going to stay ‘broken’ for a good while yet, and if anyone stopped to ask about it he had a headful of complex engineering terms to throw at them until they went away.

He always said biotics ran hot, but you never really believed him until you started sleeping together. Each morning a battle of staying beneath the covers, sweltering, or throwing them off and risking waking him. You always wake first.

A heavy sigh, one long drawn breath and a slow release signaling he was awake. His throaty, husky voice whispering ‘morning,’ before placing a soft kiss on your cheek.

Sleepy, whiskey brown eyes find yours, the crows feet along the edges crinkling as he gives you that damn dazzling smile. Yeah, the one that makes your stomach do funny things.
