It's so bleak why are you guys defending fan. Guys. Guys he's in the wrong here. Can anyone hear me. I love him.so.much this isn't out of hate but why are defending his extremely clear descent into corruption. Why are we acting like marsh was in the wrong for getting pissed at fan for uprooting their entire lives because their location got compromised as a result of HIS game that HE decided to continue and then proceeding to do the same things that mephone did (making his own issues challenges for the contestants to fix, being controlling and giving everyone very little choice in the decisions HE makes, etc.) guys. okay, so i've written a loooong, long comment under one of my yt community posts explaining the Potential of a transfem lifering arc (which i will put here), but not really discussed why exactly i think lifering is a teen. it's kinda tricky to explain (might make a video looking at lifering and explain this), but the reason i beleive it so strongly is because i've met so many autistic teenage boys that are that way. lifering is literally just my brother, just less overwork-y. so the headcanon does also hinge quite a bit on her also being autistic.
some other points that stick out to me:
she kinda goes through puberty in the series? in seasons one to two, character voices change as time goes on, them aging alongside their vas. in early season two, adam's voice is relatively low, but the voice he gives lifering is very pre-pubescent (or at least early puberty). her later appearances (seas the day-invitational) have her sounding slightly deeper, but it's still mid-puberty sounding to me. her current voice is a lot closer to other adam voiced characters, but it's still got an Edge that sounds like how half of my classmates did in S5-6.
the way she approaches her job throughout the series feels very new hire/young employee-ish. she's amature, not really good at what she does — this is partially to do with her programming making her clumsy and bad at her job, but the incompetence is very "still in training". also, the enthusiasm amd excitement she has whenever she has to actually do her job. she gets to put her training into action!! IMPORTANT!!! you can start training to be a lifeguard at age twelve.
kind of related, but see the way she interacts with dr fizz in box's exit interview. dr fizz is in a feild close to hers (one she wants to approach further and get better at when she's older), but there is a HUGE gap in importance/rank. any adult in that feild would approach the higher ranked adult with some form of respect, maybe behave a bit more seriously, but lifering has almost a childlike admiration towards him.
honestly, the way he interacts with people in general. very Autistic Teen to me. he's got this "everyone's my friend :]" attitude (though that is Far from the case as sje realises in her exit interview)
she's a mobile gamer. that should be enough said. (her saying sus is. also very teen-ish. lol)
sorry if these points seem weak or i've misremembered something,,, i'll explain better one day. maybe in a video about her. i really like lifering

Imagine in an au where marshmallow became a ghost instead of knife and she gets to stay in the mansion with bow and dough. And Apple has to leave without any of her friends all of them left behind. Honestly I feel like she'd try and hide until everyone's gone and hope they don't realize she's not on the boat. apple might actually rather die
you know with a scenario like that, it really cements just how dependent apple still is with marshmallow. its not as bad as it used to be (for now), and she does still formulate her own opinions on the game + does things on her own according to both the purgatory livestream and season 4's antics
but i think apple only really went through with leaving the mansion because marshmallow went as well. we all saw how she was the first to protest against fan because she couldnt bear to leave the ghosts on their to face any danger, and the idea of leaving her home distressed her. apple doesnt want to lose companionship with those shes already securely close with and have to experience loneliness once more. but afterwards as marsh took control of the conversation, she more just was focused on what she had to say and seeing how she felt about it (which apple gets both worried for her wellbeing as she knows how hurt she is and to a degree because of such a dire situation that marsh has already felt strong towards, apple cant really interfere too much until marsh concludes someplace). and the tainted comment of course only hammered in some internalization apples been having to further push her going by with marshmallow
and you know what else? the scenario of marshmallow having died and turned into ghost would only enforce more of apple's guilt in Bad Events and Suffering on marshmallow being her own fault. considering in the original apple (some fucking how!!!!) wasnt with marshmallow during that running scene, she wouldve harboured even more guilt and self hatred for not having been with marsh and saving her. itd be another reason for apple to actually stay back if marsh were a ghost, and i dont think shed be incredibly upfront about why exactly. hell, i think apple would hide herself from the ghosts until its certain the boat left. itd be a messy ass conversation between her and the others, and especially marshmallow. itd probably put a strain on them, with apple not communicating clearly her guilt for putting marshmallow in this position by her own stupidity and marsh feeling guilt for making apple risk her life like this... which she Does express and thatd just make apple be more closed off on her own inner turmoils
its all a very interesting way to view apple's character, because while yes she absolutely didnt want to leave behind the ghosts, at the very least marshmallow is alive and mortal so she has an anchor to hold onto until they all sink. but remove marsh from the ability to leave the mansion, apple would definitely feel as if theres no point in saving her own life if she had absolutely no one to feel secure and exist around
