Yet, despite the compliments for which I am grateful, I cannot seem to get a job in my field. Its so oversaturated, with so few jobs, that despite my so called skill and talent, I have nothing but a portfolio of excellent work to show. No opportunities. No money. My passion, my love for the work, everything has amounted to a nonexistent career.

your old boss is not only putting you forward for a job, she believes you can easily do it. your work was soooo subpar (by your own insane standards) when you worked for her 3 years ago, and now its wildly better, and that still isnt 100% from you. If you 3 years ago was capable of this, then you now are definitely able to manage it with grace, skill, and dedication. Get the job. Pay the bills. Eat dinner.
