I've seen some misinformation about OSDD floating around lately so I think it's important to make a post about this:
Amnesia is not a requirement for OSDD.
According to the DSM-5-TR, page 348, OSDD can include "identity disturbance associated with less-than-marked discontinuities in sense of self and agency, or alterations of identity or episodes of possession in an individual who reports no dissociative amnesia."
OSDD is not any one single experience. It's a diagnosis given to people who clearly have a dissociative disorder but do not quite fit fully into any specific dissociative disorder (like DID). This is a vast spectrum of experiences we're talking about. So, some people diagnosed with OSDD absolutely do experience amnesia, but not everyone.
I'm going to leave this post off with a licensed DID specialist talking about the difference between DID and OSDD. Please give it a watch!
Actually, no, I don't think that friendships dropping like flies in your late 20s and early 30s because no one has time for that between overwork and family obligations and marriage and kids and partners and the ritual of the time slayer is normal and ok. No I don't think deep conversations and spontaneous adventures being replaced with a tired coffee every six months is a normal part of growing up. I don't think that emotional intimacy and soul bonds disintegrating in the face of practical inconvenience is a fact of life. I think that means something is deeply deeply wrong with our society and I will never forgive it for the friends I've lost

now my question is. whats up w the gargoyles
yes yes they are bodies patchworked together with corpse wax. but are they like, undead? grafted? and what for? they almost feel like the results of some pre-erdtree burial practices, but most of them seem to work directly in areas connected to the GO (most are in leyndel/altus, and one in front of the bestial sanctum is directly noted as a follower of maliketh)
i dont remember any in farum, to my recollection, but of course theres a couple underground as well… the valiant gargoyles, and then some of those closer to godwyn’s corpse. i also dont belieeeeve theres any in dlc that i remember of…?
they’re weird. whats up with all that
ok but this unironically works. talk about how the working class is exploited and you can basically sell full-on marxism to your average republican if you do it right. all you have to do is avoid the words "Marx," "capitalism," "socialism," "communism," "means of production," etc - just use synonyms. say "big business" or "corporate shareholder interests" instead of "capitalists." say "a government that prioritizes the needs of the working people" instead of "socialism." it WORKS. I've DONE it. the hardest sell are usually things like social and racial equity, welfare, things like that, because people have been primed with the racist/classist idea that those things are somehow unfair - but you can get your foot in the door to getting them to buy into those too if you start with class issues. read up on your theory, make sure you REALLY understand your own ideology, because that will enable you to reword it and successfully sell it.
In my experience, you can often help sell 'welfare' stuff by appealing to self-interest with a touch of Aren't We Great.
Disability benefits: "I mean, sure, there are probably some sad sacks who are gaming the system, there always are, but hell, with the amount of taxes we pay, the government can afford a few freeloaders, right? I'd rather pay for a couple people who don't really need it than not have the system at all for if I need it, or my kids do, or whatever. I mean shit happens. What if some asshole drunk driver puts me in the hospital and it takes me a year to get back on my feet? Or Heaven forbid something permanent happens. I'll sure be glad that I can get disability then, won't I?"
UBI: "I dunno, the kind of guy who'll just sit on the couch playing Call of Duty all day if he doesn't have to work, I kinda don't want him on my job site anyway. That type is just taking up a place that you could fill with someone who'll actually get the job done, you know? You end up short-handed even though you technically have enough people because everyone else has to pick up his slack. And it'd mean that if your boss is a dick you can tell him to shove it and not worry your kids are gonna go hungry while you find a better place. We can sure as hell afford it."
Racial equity: "I've got a lot more in common with a Black guy who's just trying to get the job done than I do with some rich white asshole who thinks the sun shines out of his ass because of how much money mommy and daddy have."

this isn’t about what’s been stated or not, i’m talking your VIBES and HEADCANONS. where would you put the order if you were in control of things
you're infinitely more likely to see non-Asian representation in anime, such as Europeans, white Americans, black people, Latinx, etc in anime than you are any of the minorities who are actually common within Japan
and an interesting element of this is that, due to the foreign interest in anime and how that incentivizes the anime industry, a production committee is more likely to consider adding a black character to a cast than they are a korean character. there's no demand for Japanese national minorities from overseas, only groups which are considered minorities in the US and Europe
it would be much bolder for an anime to have a korean character than it would to have a tourist character which happens to be black. because ultimately, if a story is set in Japan and it has non-Japanese characters, the implicit message around them is "they will not be here forever". regardless of skin color or ethnicity, europeans, americans, and africans are a novelty to Lapan which can come and go without it ever mattering
whereas to portray a Korean in anime, or a Chinese character, or Ainu, or to portray Ryukyuans as a distinct ethnic group, is significantly bolder, and accordingly, significantly rarer. because to portray these national minorities, they would have to admit that they're not a temporary element in Japan. a Korean person who was born in Japan is a threat to Japanese national myths. the very act of existing in media becomes a political statement, and moreover, a direct threat against the perceived status quo
Pretty sure you could count the number of anime with Ainu characters on one hand. The only main cast Korean character in anime I can think of off the top of my head is from a comedy sci-fi series from ~30 years ago. Ryukyuan as a distinct ethnicity, one character from a show ~20 years ago. Hell, I'm pretty sure I've seen more Australian characters in anime than Korean characters in anime. Golden Kamuy is literally the only thing preventing that from being true of Ainu characters.
i guess ive been so fatigued of melina theories that “melina was one of the black knives” never actually occurred to me until posited to me directly. and i have been rolling that around in my hands and i DO like it….
explains why the blade of calling’s moveset is like that of the black knives. she is a numen. explains why she would have that eye, even, if she was part of the night of black knives plot, getting a part of the rune that was stolen. explains the elevator cell. maybe even explains why she was burned, as punishment or sacrifice for taking part in that…??
i do like it. i do like it. very fun, and adds a LOT more spice to her role
