chasing my tail some dogs are just pathetic, aren’t they? they’ll lie on the concrete outside the front door marking the minutes with a feeble little whimper lopsided ears perking up at every car that passes hoping a blue one will mark its owner’s return. perhaps today will be the day they go to the park, and the world will be warm again rewarded with affection for being so patient and loyal maybe the last time didn’t end so well but this time could be different! car pulls in! blue car! the dog can’t keep its tail from wagging! owner steps out! frowning when they see the dog—stop wagging, be on your best behavior! silent and still now, no more whining only quiet ones are rewarded cold-faced, she walks right past not a glance back as the door opens and shuts again maybe i’m still not enough. but next time could be different!
