Endlessly fascinated about my conversations with Loustat shippers and the fanon versus canon things that TVL is revealing about the relationship. Especially when it comes to the fanon of 'supportive Louis' because the more one rewarches their previous scenes, the more one sees that Supportive Louis... doesn't exist? Like, there isn't a single scene where Louis is actually supportive of Lestat purely for the sake of it. Even the scene of the reunion is framed as Louis going to apologise to Lestat for himself, it's not about Lestat at all. And before that we have:
Lestat buying stuff and helping Louis with his money ventures at his request.
Lestat taking Louis to dates.
Lestat playing the piano in Louis' business.
Lestat trying to cheer Louis up when he was doing the whole not eating stuff.
Lestat turning Claudia because Louis asked him.
Lestat staying with Louis all those years after Claudia left. (Because in all honestly, he could have just... left).
Lestat staying away from the townhouse after the fight even when it was... literally his house.
Lestat immediately caving to Louis and Claudia's questioning even when his turning was a personal thing he didn't want to share (before he clearly learned about the obvious murder plan).
Dreamstat is also a reflection of that. People have pointed out that it shows the sweeter side of their marriage, but literally all the sweetness comes from the hallucination, not Louis. The hallucination is literally there to support Louis' needs.
So, how can we say that TVL!Louis is just a reflection of Lestat's POV? He is not. We are just seeing the dynamic without Louis' narration. And again, I think this whole desire for 'Supportive Louis' is a subconscious reflection of the fandom knowing that canon Louis is just... not that yet.
Even after they reconciled, we see Louis just again... Being petty and not understanding what's the problem with the book until Lestat literally threw the book to his lap. They also haven't talked about Paris clearly, because Louis still thinks Lestat was there for shits and giggles. And I don't think they breached either subject because Louis couldn't even ask Lestat what made him mad about the book in two years even when he said in that meeting that 'they've been through this before'.
Well, clearly you don't, because he had to throw an annotated copy at you for you to get it.
Lestat has clearly undergone character development after the throat slashing. He is not controlling, he manages his anger pretty well in non-destructive ways (at least not to other people, himself is another issue) and he doesn't retain Louis to himself in any way (not that he did before but that's how Louis framed it on the tale). So clearly Louis is the one that has to change now, before it's too late.
But this idea that Louis was all supportive of Lestat before and this 'clearly changed in TVL' is... not true. Sorry, I think the hiatus wrapped too many minds.
