In 1838, Ehrhardt went to Dresden and became assistant to the history painter Edward Bendemann. Ehrhardt was involved in the decoration of the royal residence palace, especially in various murals of the throne room and ballroom.

Il Pordenone, byname of Giovanni Antonio de’ Sacchis, was a vigorous chiaroscurist and flesh painter. The 1911 Britannica states that “so far as mere flesh-painting is concerned he was barely inferior to Titian in breadth, pulpiness and tone.”

Hooton (1912-1988), student, fellow and professor, Royal Academy of  Music, is shown full-length, looking to the viewer. Wearing a long white dress, her left hand is on the fingerboard, and her right arm is extended, with her bow resting on the strings. Youthful, and with her fair hair hanging down and framing her face.
