Last song: Well, I recently started playing Animal Crossing, and the looping background music certainly worms its way into the brain!!
Currently watching: (I need to watch Jaadugar, too!) Old seasons of Top Chef with my partner in the evenings. And another unwind-y show called Ugliest House in America. Witch Hat Atelier anime on repeat?? Surprisingly, no... (Not yet, anyway!) For some reason, it's still hard for me to believe it's real!!
Current obsession: "Adult" coloring books, particularly by certain illustrators from Japan and Korea - some have such gorgeous artwork, I watch flip-throughs just to admire them. Chiaki Ida is a favorite. I'd like to illustrate my own one of these days. Always obsessed with orufrey, Kaiba, my 3 kitties...
Currently reading: Hamnet by Maggie O'Farrell. My mom loves it and had me borrow her notated copy to read, but I've heard mixed things from trusted friends, so I'm trying my best to form my own opinion! π¬ (harder for me than it sounds lol) I'm about halfway through; I'm engaged and find it flows/reads very easily/comfortably, but I'm not blown-away impressed. Always fanfic, too, of course - rereading faves quite often, enjoying discovering newer witch hat authors, and keeping up with @rainstormcolors 's epic fic "The Storms"!!
Currently working on: Fanfic WIP!!! "When Change and Tears Are Past" - post-canon/canon divergent orufrey, with angst, adventure, atelier family, and ostensibly a happy ending, if I can make it through!! Link here: https://archiveofourown.org/works/83751386/chapters/220734836
Every chapter has given me GRIEF, but it feels like the kind of creative struggle that indicates growth. Alas, such a thing is so gradual, sometimes imperceptible!! But I'm determined to do my best and have fun! Also, thanks to the anime, there are a lot of new readers who've left so many insightful and encouraging comments along the way, as well as friends' general encouragement - that truly motivates me so much, right at the heart level, so thank you if you are reading this!! π
Last google search: How to spell Maggie O'Farrell's last name π
Tagging @phramup @catcataliencat @merchantarthurn @emustockings @azuresquirrel @colachampagne3 @carrotstache @draftfive @jaynovz @loulou-garou And anyone else who would like to do it!! <3
Part 1/4 of a little prideshipping comic I did for a gift exchange!! The prompt was just so good I had to keep running with it so it ended up with like 22 pages..so stay tuned!

I think the reason hardcore Superman fans like MAWS so much is because it's a show that jingles keys in front of them.
I notice the most hardcore Superman fans like to dismiss shows like STAS because it's a series that wasn't made by people who were big fans of Superman. Leading to the show not really engaging with much of the strongest aspects of Superman lore and characterization. Superman is just kind of there. So hardcore Superman fans consider it a "normie" show to like.
Meanwhile despite how MAWS takes all these huge liberties with its reinterpretation of Superman, it drops all these little easter eggs to show that the people behind the series are huge fans of Superman. Entire scenes grind to a halt just to make some pointless reference to an obscure comics character. Lois is characterized inconsistently because They're Making A Reference to how she acted in the earlier comics, instead of writing a cohesive narrative.
And when you're so deep into Superman comics lore, it can feel like all that nerd knowledge you have is being rewarded when you watch the show. This is the kind of brainrot that results in fans not engaging with all this media as stories anymore. To these hardcore fans, it's all just about "Takes". STAS is a bad take, MAWS is a good take. They get a kick out of seeing MAWS remix all this intricate lore, even if it results in a mediocre and offensive story.
I see this kind of attitude again when these fans discuss Supes2025. They only look at it through the lens of "is this a good take on Superman" and not general basic analysis like "how affective is this at being an anti-war movie". I get that how Supes is written matters to these fans, but I think they can get so head-deep in the sauce that they're not even really engaging with art on even the most basic level anymore.
