Mamdani, just as Bernie is not a socialist. He is a capitalist. He proposes politics from Keynesian capitalism. The kind of capitalism that was seen as common sense in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s.

Universal Healthcare was common sense.

Free education was common sense.

Investing in infrastructure was common sense.

Taxing the rich was common sense.

Feeding the poor was common sense.

Rent ceilings were common sense.

People assumed at the time that eventually universal basic income (called an "automation tax" back then) would eventually be common sense.

Don't let the established parties gaslight you into thinking that anything about this is revolutionary. It is common sense. It works. We know. Because it has worked before.

Mind you, I personally still want anarcho communism. But Keynesian Capitalism would be a great improvement.

While I get the wish to reclaim the term socialism, I do think it would be better to hammer home on the fact that all those policies had been implemented. They are capitalist. They are American. They are the politics that helped build the 1950s that so many of the nostalgic conservatives want to go back to.
