âItâs okay,â Michelle assured himâshe wasnât really one to judge, anyways. Sure it was a little odd, but⌠I doubt itâs something he can help.
Looking down, she stared at the shadows for a moment, returning her gaze then to Edmund. âSo these shadows are like⌠an extension of you or something?â I mean, she was honestly curiousâshe just hoped it didnât seem like an intruding question.
Smiling, she raised an eyebrow as he rested his head on top of the back of the chair, his eyes gleaming up at her. Her heart skipped a beat, and she snapped from her staring, quickly responding with, âO-oh. Well. Itâs no big deal. I donât have a lot of work to do today.â
âYou sure? Iâd hate to be a bother.â He was used to acting as a fly on the wall, so he had no problem with Michelle returning to her work. At least she would still acknowledge he was there if he spoke up.
Unlike his fatherâŚ
Returning his focus to her earlier question, he shrugged. âIâm not really sure how to explain it, especially if you arenât familiar with alchemical terms and theories, but⌠I guess you could consider them to be extensions of me.â After all, the shadows would dissolve into dust if cut off from the main body, just like his physical limbs would.
Michelle offered a small smile. "I'm sure. Besides, I can't just ignore a guest." She closed her eyes. "I may be many things, but not hospitable isn't one of them."
"Oh, I see," she noted, glancing back down at the shadows. "Yeah, I... don't really know much about alchemy," she admitted. "Not really my thing."
Watching for a moment longer, she looked back at him. "It's boring to just sit around, isn't it?" She grinned.
