who decided that the zoom in and zoom out gestures would be the way that they are ? like why two fingers moving out from a center point or moving together towards a point ? what object before technology was following those rules and incited scientists and engineers to design zooming in/out that way ?
My initiatial thought was a gesture of the hand, if you close your fingers together, it indicates a smaller object, whereas moving them apart indicates a larger one. But I doubt that's the case because people usually use their hand and move their arms closer or further to indicate that sort of thing.
Then I thought maybe fabric? Since to pinch fabric together makes it scrunch up, and you can pull outwards to straighten it - But I couldn't figure out how that would correlate to zooming closer to something.
Just shower laying-in-bed-and-thinking thoughts
