& all around me are familiar faces
* / LOADING ⌠history with @miasieon !
itâs been a strange feeling, settling into the feeling of being part of an organized agency once again. there are more freedoms here than he had had at sra, and juwon isnât quite sure what to do with himself anymore. there is so much free time for him to wander the halls and settle in, and heâs been trying to learn the layout after embarrassingly getting lost several times in his first week.
his time at meia so far has been filled with unexpected reunions, and with each reunion, his heart wavers and he needs a moment to remind himself exactly what his purpose here is. heâs here to help all of his friends and the people he cares about, to help create a world where they wonât have to worry as much about dying to demons just because they are human. it had been particularly difficult to see daesu and gaeul, the family he had once tried to find after heâd been brought to sra by his parents. it had been after that incident that he had seen kaiserâs mercy and understood the higher goal to see humans become more resilent to demons. to see both his cousins alive and in the clutches of meia is simultaneously a curse and a blessing.
at the very least, theyâre alive. thatâs almost more than he had expected.
there have been other familiar faces at meia, old friends from seaside, but also those he had known at sra, and he understands that they are there for motivation as much as accountability. there are always eyes, he knows, and part of his job is to sink himself so deeply into his role that no one will question him, all without wavering under all the facades.
despite everything, there is still genuine pleasure in seeing familiar faces once again, especially in a world where everyoneâs survival is truly a game of luck and skill. so when juwon sees a figure that he thinks he recognizes, one he could never forget.
without hesitation, he calls out to the other agent, his voice filled with genuine excitement, âsieon!â
memories. a glimpse of the past, moments in time stored within the depths of the mind, frozen where it should be. for a while now, for longer than heâd like to admit, sieon had lost the privilege he had to remember them.
all in all, life carries on as normal without these memoriesâas normal as it gets in an apocalyptic world, of course. sometimes, people would tell him heâs lucky that he had forgotten, saved from the painful memories that continue to plague everyone else. thatâs not how sieon sees it, though. there are people he wants to remember, he needs to remember their importance and their significance in his life, he has to remember the faces of those he loves and cares about.
unfortunately, he doesnât. they try to tell him itâs a blessing. he doesnât say it out loud, but he thinks itâs the opposite.
being a reserved individual since he was young, there arenât too many agents coming up to him to tell him; hey, i knew you back then, do you remember me? it happens, just not as often as it could have been. but whenever it does, the strange interaction will hit him like a barrage of bricks, questioning what could have been, wondering how disappointed the other party would be when he reveals that he doesn't remember.
a voice calls out to him suddenly, a sound that feels so vaguely familiar, one that makes his chest feel a little tighterâout of nostalgia or what, he doesnât know yet. regardless of that internal turmoil and the creeping sense that heâll only dishearten someone else, sieon turns his head to face whoever is shouting his name.
â...yes?â he asks, recognition void in his eyes. thereâs a polite smile on his lips, but he doubts itâll smoothen this interaction that will ultimately end up a little rocky despite how hard he tries. he can see from the way this man is approaching him, somewhat carefree and eager, that he's a person sieon should know. someone he should remember.
( and something inside him tells him that this agent does have a place in his memories, an indispensable space he truly wants to recallâbut he doesnât. he canât. not yet. )
âam i... someone you used to know?â he asks, because asking the question âdo i know you?â never goes well. he knows that from experience.
