Patrick Blanc is a Botanist but is more well know for his Vertical Gardens. While not being the first to invent the system, he has popularized it throughout the world. In Miami, his two works can be found in the only two Herzog and de Meuron projects in the area, 1111 and PAMM. He has worked with them before on many projects including the Caixa Forum in Madrid. His skill at painting with plants has created living master pieces of art. For the Juvia Restaurant he created on of his trademark living wall installations. Meanwhile at the PAMM working with ArquitectonicaGeo he created a new kind of vertical garden consisting of hanging tubs which hang from the roof. The tubs contain water and a growing medium for a variety of plants to grow from. Hopefully these two will not be his last in Miami.

  In front of the Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr. Courthouse in Miami lies the art piece/landscape design Flutter by Maya Lin. (Maya Lin is most well known for her Vietnam Veterans Memorial) Unlike traditional urban plazas in front of public buildings in the US or throughout the world which are concrete open spaces, Maya Lin has created an undulating landscape of grass for the public to enjoy. She takes inspiration from the nautical design of the courthouse by Arquitectonica to create sea of grass for the building to sit in. The piece is a nice intersection between land art and landscape which created an original and inviting public space in Miami. It is a shame though the plaza is completely empty most of the time.

The view from the beach of the Surf Club being built. On the left will be the cantilevered transfer slab of the Richard Meier building. In the middle is the old Surf Club with excavated foundations and future basement. The new buildings are being built beneath, around an above the existing structure. On the left on can see more scaffolding for another modern addition which will hover over the historic building.

The third project by Herzog & de Meuron in Miami is this luxury condominium tower in Sunny Isles. Currently the underground parking garage is under construction.

The glazing is mostly up and also most of the balconies. These doors are the widest approved by Miami NOA so far.
