Jeneque Pinnock - @jenequep
Q. You look so at home & at ease in your own skin. We LOVE this confidence about you! Have you always been like this, or has your confidence grown overtime?
A. For as long as I can remember, Iāve been a confident person! I think I can credit that to how I was raised, the people Iāve surrounded myself with, and just socialization in general. My parents have always been encouraging and supportive; I grew up believing that I could do and be anything I wanted, believing that I was beautiful, brilliant and boundless - that mindset sticks with you no matter how old you grow!
A. Iām a Social Media Manager. My professional life has always been an aspect of my life that Iām somewhat private about, however, the development of my career is something Iām extremely grateful for and proud of. Iāve grown to love Digital Marketing and Communication - so why not make a job out of it? Seems only natural.
Q. Describe to us your perfect vacation.
A. Oooouuuu, my perfect vacation is one where I can completely unplug and unwind but at the same time, is packed with excitement (Contradiction? Maybe⦠But I want both!). Where to? Somewhere that has a little bit of everything - Ā adventure, a culture that I havenāt yet experienced, history, nightlife. And of course, it would be spent with good company.
Q. If you could summarise yourself into a #hashtag, what would your signature #hashtag be?
A. #BeautifulBrilliantBoundless hahaa, thatās the first thing that came to me and those three words really describe how I feel right now. I feel the most self assured and confident that Iāve ever been, I feel excited about whatās to come for me, and I truly feel limitless in what I can accomplish.
Q. What is your absolute guilty pleasure?
A. Oh laaawd! Your girl has a SWEET TOOTH. I donāt know where it came from or when I developed it, but I just keep craving a lil sweetness.
Me: ⦠Mi feel fi summ niiiice
Q. When it comes to your mind & body, do you stick to a certain diet or get into things like the gym or yoga?
A. GYMMING IT ALL 2019! Lol, yes. I started working out at the beginning of the year - like many people, this was my New Yearās Resolution. Proud to say Iāve stuck with it! I also try to eat āwellā - my body naturally doesnāt respond well to unhealthy food, so this has been pretty easy for me. Of course I treat myself every now and then though - water is my drink of choice⦠and wine, a close second lol
Q. What are your top 3 pet peeves?
A. UGH. I had to think about this because Iām not sure I have any clear pet peeves. Iām the first to admit that I can be very particular but are my peeves petty? Idk idk.
I donāt like poor communicators - that I know for sure. Talk up & talk clear (please)!
Q. Tell us 1 thing about you that would surprise someone when they first met you.
A. Sometimes people are surprised by how warm I am in person. Itās the most consistent feedback Iāve gotten from people who meet me. In the same way online, Iām responding to every comment, answering messages, replying to tweets, sharing feedback, thoughts, recommendations⦠thatās exactly what you get in person; just ONE authentic me.
Q. What do you love the most about the Carnival season in Jamaica?
A. The music, the vibes, the events, the costumes, the extravagance, the comradery, the meeting of new people, the⦠everything! I could go on and on. Iāve been blessed to experience carnival in two other countries and Jamaica is still my favourite. Jamaica nice!
Q. What would be your favourite part of your body? Has it always been this way - or has it come with age?
A. I like my legs⦠I think thatās my favourite. Before it was probably my smile, but Iāve grown to LOVE being tall and embrace the long-legged life haha. The background to this though, is that I was always the tallest girl in my class - always stood out for my height. Now at 4 years old, this isnāt so fun, so itās great to see how the feature that makes you a little uncomfortable can eventually be one of your best assets.
Q. How would you describe your experience in the 2017 Ms. Jamaica World Pageant? Would you enter another pageant?
A. Girllll, what if I told you that I sometimes forget that I did Miss Jamaica? Much less, that I came 3rd overall? It seems like so long ago in my mind because 2019 Jeneque is so far ahead of 2017 Jeneque (no offence to me). The pageant was a MAJOR growing & learning experience for me. I really came into my own, I found my voice, I solidified my personality and honestly grew into so much more sure of WHO I am. Not to mention all the doors that being on such a large national stage has opened up for me. I really made the most of the experience, I think, and for that I am grateful and proud. As for doing more pageants? I highly doubt that - my current crown and sash are enough for me :)
Q. How did you feel when you found out you were nominated for the Prime Minister's Youth Award?
A. Now this⦠this is one of my proudest accomplishments to date⦠and Iāve used the word PROUD a few times in this interview - itās because I feel that we all need to be proud of ourselves. Being proud does not mean an absence of modesty or humility, but we need to not feel ashamed of or belittle what we have accomplished.
Being nominated and shortlisted for the award (no, I didnāt win), made me know that people are watching! While Iām here putting in work, volunteering, choosing to give of my talents and time to causes I care about, people are taking note. That feels good because when we choose to volunteer, thatās the farthest thing from our minds - we do it because we want to make an impact!
Finish the following sentences:
- Life feels so much better when⦠you know what youāre about.
When you know who you are, what you stand for, what you believe in, what you bring to the table - your strengths, weaknesses, aspirations - everything becomes so much clearer. Youāre able to stand confidently in your purposes. Thatās when youāre living your best life.
- My favourite part about living in Jamaica is...
Thereās always something to do!
- My favourite Miakalani Swim design is...
WOW. I definitely canāt choose a favourite. The new designs are fire and some of the earliest designs are still classic. Gimme all of āem!
Q. Is there anything else you'd like our readers to know about you?
A. I think weāve covered a lot :) I hope that this lil peep inside my thoughts has made people feel like they know me a bit better. Iām pretty open and transparent through my own social media presence, but these questions were pretty targeted. Big up Miakalani!
