THE FAMILY TREE :ăTHE ROOTS.
the maternal side of eddie's family.
jack franklin grows up lower-middle class,ăbut happy.ăhe's not as brash as his father,ănor as querulous as his mother,ăbut the love of the small group of friends he makes as a boy is enough to satisfy.ăthey have two dogs and a steady enough income to fill the icebox.ăhis parents care not for what he does,ănor where he is.ăthe library parents him more than those who gave him lifeă-ăromance and mystery alike.ăthough not wealthy enough for the fancier schools,ăjack is well-read and well-spoken.ăhe has dreams of authorhoodă&ăis the right kind of sentimental for when he meets betty archer at sixteen.ă
betty's family,ămuch wealthier than his own,ăhas just settled in tennessee.ăshe newly attends his school's sister school,ăand thus they are given to cross paths at a mingling lunch.ăshe wants to be a dancer,ăand jack is the only one who does not laugh.ăeven her own father scoffs at girlish delusion.ăperhaps it's because they both dream too bigă/ătoo loud that their romance snowballs quickly.ăthey sneak into theater performances,ătake picnicsă&ăpen love letters.ăthe archers don't like the franklinsă-ăeven ordinary dwells too far below their station.ăbetty's father is controllingă&ăprickly,ăher mother enabling.ăwhen jack presents her with a ring,ăbetty takes her leave from the fortune she might once have inherited.
they are married in 1938.ăboth of their sets of parents are left in the rear-view,ăa family of their own the dream they cradle.
elizabethă'lizzie'ăfranklin is born to jackă&ăbetty on friday,ăthe fourteenth of july,ă1939.ăthey are overcautious not to step into the shoes of their own parents ;ăto find the middle ground between the cold,ăchoking grasp of expectation that was betty's parentsă&ăthe carelessness dressed as freedom proffered to young jack.ăelizabeth is the center of their world,ăbut she is also the stopper shoved in bottled dreams.ăher parents are not cruel or resentful,ăbut they speak wistfully of the things they had once wanted :ăshe can imagine her mother,ăelegant and beautiful under the warmth of a spotlightă&ăher father,ăbrilliant as he scrawls his autograph on front pages.
still,ăthey are happy.ălizzie knows she's lucky to boast parents whose hands are still and gentleă-ănot all of her friends growing up are so lucky.ăbut lizzie's father reads her the novels written only in his notebooks,ăand her mother shows her the music of tchaikovskyă&ătells her its tales.ăfrom birth,ăshe is awestruck by music and words.ăelizabeth grows up listening to the blues ;ăbeale street transforming in front of her eyes into the most beautiful place in the world.ăthe home of the blues,ăcafes and parks her parents would take her to overcome with live music.ănear every step she takes is loudly serenadedă-ălizzie grows up just as loud as her home town.ă it's as a teenager that she bears witness the birth of rockă&ăroll,ăand what is a teenage girl with wild hair and the thrum of a song in her heart to do but to follow the music ?ănot everyone understands a young girl so outspokenă/ăso loudă/ăso many things a girl shouldn't be,ăbut she cares little for decorum or tradition.
her parents haven't the money for all the records she would like,ăso every one her guitar-callused hands manage to obtain is treasured.ăevery one is a ticket to another placeă-ăsomewhere else in the world where there is music she hasn't heard,ăbut will someday.
is it any surprise a girl so raised on music and the stories it tells would be so easily wooed by charming passerby al munson,ăwho is roguish and mysterious and wonderful,ălike a man ripped from a country song ?ă( she will leave with him when she is nineteen,ăand when she is alone in hawkins cradling her sonă-ămissing her own parents and wondering where on earth her good-for-nothing husband isă-ăshe will regret it.ăher records will become plane tickets in a more heartache-inducing way,ăthen ;ăfreedom from the life in which she is trapped.ăbut for the time,ăit seems like a wonderful adventure. )
all versesă( unless otherwise stated )ăare available for plottingă+ămemesă+ăinteraction !ăi am always open to crafting new verses for writing partners i get along particularly well with,ă&ăadore affiliated verses.
stranger things verses.
main verse. eddieâs biography precedes canon.ăcanonicity is adhered to until the demo-bats descend upon ill-prepared hero.ăin the eyes of his party,ăeddieâs demise is sure as the rising of the sunăâăhow surprising,ăthen :ăheâs alive down there.ăhiding as best he can in hell-dimension he can't see for the searing pain that nearly blinds him.ăpraying to deities he's never believed in that one of his new friends will return,ăbathed in glory,ăto play the hero.ă( look,ăhe might not be a damsel,ăbut he's sure as shit in distress ! )ăeddie,ăhalf-deadă&ăhalf-hallucinating where he hides,ă envisions nancy wheeler,ăwielding a gun that isn't too large for her hands,ăbut should beă/ăharrington in borrowed vest,ăknuckles taut-white around his nail-bată/ăbuckley extending friendly handă&ătelling him to rună/ăeven his little shithead nerds,ăarmed with weapons they should only know the names of from d&d.ăheroic scenes are a comfort to conjure up as a distraction from blood-gushing wounds,ăbut the only escape they will offer him is his inevitable death. the truth he is forced to face is this :ănobody is coming to save him.ănot unless he asks them to,ăwhich means he has to get up off the murky ground,ăfight his way out,ă&ătry like hell to bother them on the other side.ăif it's a hero he wants,ăhe's going to have to kick up a very loud fuss.ăwhich,ăhey,ăhe's always been damn good at.
came back wrongă( alternate canonă/ătechnically-not-a-vampire-verse ). eddie dies in the upside down,ăcontent that the last thing he does is tell dustin,ălittle bastard of a pseudo-brother that he is,ăthat he loves him.ăhe's a good kid,ă&ăhe deserves to know he was a good part of eddie's shitty life.ăso,ăhe dies,ăand it's fine.ăreally,ăit is.ăhis arc is complete,ăanyway,ăif he thinks about it from a fantasy hero movie point of view,ăand ... yet,ăhe wakes anyway.ăhe wakes completely healed.ăpale skin is smooth and perfect where sickeningly deep scars should beă/ădark curls are matted with blood that seems to come from nowhere. ultimately,ăthe word the party lands on after a ridiculous amount of experimentation,ăis vampire.ăeddie hates this.ălike,ăreally hates it.ăit's not accurate to any vampire lore he's ever readăâăthe sun doesn't burn his skină&ăhis crucifix necklaces remain a staple of his wardrobe.ăthey argue that a hunger for blood is close enough.ăeddie argues that he doesn't even get any cool powers.ăit's a fight he loses.ăso he's aăvampireăhuman who occasionally needs a blood smoothie.ăhe can live with that.ăuntil,ăthat is,ăit becomes apparent he's still connected to the upside down.
witsec but way more shady verse. eddie doesn't want to run again,ăafter he very nearly dies.ăhe wants to stand alongside his ragtag bunch of friendsă&ăhelp them take down vecna.ăhe wants to stay with his uncle wayneă/ăwants to bother steveă&ărobin at family videoă/ăwants to smoke up with jonathană&ăargyleă/ăwants to finish his campaignsă&ăsee his little lambs grow into full-size sheep.ăhe'd like to get to know jane and nancy and ...ăwhatever other wishes he might have cradled close to his chest,ăit doesn't matter.ăthe nda he signs is under duressăâăsign it,ăand we'll make sure your name is cleared is more or less what he's told.ăbut the ire of small-town hawkins will not be so easily hand-waved with a press release and a few news stories laying claim to a serial killer who only framed the town freak.ăso eddie is truly banished,ăthis time.ăgovernment,ăshady-ass as it may be,ădecides it best that edward munson dies in the upside down.ăthat the partyă&ăeddie's new friends are told we're very sorry,ăbut there was nothing we could do for him.ăthe wounds were just too severe. far outside the bounds of america,ăwhere the name eddie munson means nothing at all,ăedmund franklin comes into being.ăhis passportă&ăhis id are fake,ăbut good enough to fool everyone they need to.ăfor the first time in his life,ăeddie wants to run back to hawkins so badly it aches.
fandomless verses.
fantasy. alan munson is nothing but a mortal when he weds sorceress elizabeth franklin ;ăa union born only of one-sided infatuationă( hers )ăand cavernous powerlustă( his ).ăwhen edward is born,ăhe wields magic as innate as his mother's.ăalan remains powerless,ăgreedy,ăand above all,ăjealous.ăelizabeth's passing may well be the trigger that sets him off.ăthe pact alan makes with the demon stupidly called upon is as selfish as it could be :ăthe magic brewing in his infant son in exchange for all the power alan could want.ăand,ăwell,ăwhat does a child need with magic,ăanyway ? edward grows with precious little recollection of his mother ;ăthe only father he can recall is the warlock who scamsă&ăexploits in the deals he makes with those in the kingdom desperate enough to look past the reputation attached to alan's last name. as he grows older,ăhe also grows more sickly.ăloathed by healers near and far for his proximity to his father,ănone are willing to investigate his mysterious illness.ăunbeknownst to eddie,ăthe magic he is entirely ignorant to ever having is killing him slowlyăâăthat is,ăthe lack of it is.ăif he'd like to avoid letting dear old dadă&ăhis stupid demon sponsor win,ăhe's going to have to figure out how to kill said demon,ăand quick.
modernă/ăno upside-down. for most of his teenage years,ăeddie deals potă&ăpills as he chases his impossible dream of 80s metal inspired fame.ăthat dream is ripped away when he realises that fleeing to chase fameă&ăglory is only doing what his father had done every time he promised the next one will be the big one, eds.ăit'd be running from reality.ăit'd be desperately clinging to a dream that would only result in the same dissatisfactionă-ăbecause he can't outrun himself.ăeddie doesn't need sex,ădrugs,ă&ărock 'n' roll to feel the music in his heart like his mom had used to.ăit's in him,ăand it's in the shitty gigs he plays with corroded coffin.ăso eddie settles in to trying new things :ăwriting adventure novels,ădrawing horror comics ...ăhe even considers college for all of two minutes.ăhe ends up running a tattoo parlor,ăwhere hisă&ăhis mom's favorite albums are always playing.ăhe still plays gigs at the hideout every weekăâăprobably always will.ăbut he's happy where he is.
PSA: while some of eddieâs backstory is influenced by the flight of icarus novel,ăa lot has been altered.ăif you want a brief rundown of what iâve changed,ăyou can find that here. triggers:ădeath,ăterminal illness,ăparental neglect.
preâeddie.ăelizabeth franklin grows up surrounded by music.ămemphis,ătennessee is the birthplace of the bluesă&ăthe home of rock ânâ roll ;ăit should come as no surprise that she grows into musicality like she grows into her long limbs and wild curls.ălizzie is the apple of her dadâs eye,ăand her mother is her best friend.ăfor all her life is beautiful,ăshe still dreams of getting outăâăboarding a plane to who-knows-where and finding new music in new places.ăthat plan flees the moment al munson blows into her world with the crooked smile and dubious charisma of the outlaws in her country songs.ăsheâs only nineteen when she lets him sweep her off her feet and away to hawkins,ăindiana.
whirlwind fantasies only give way to unseen disaster :ăal munson is a thief of more than hearts,ăand the poverty in which they find themselves will never satiate him.ăitâs here in hawkins that alâs charisma is unmatched by any otherăâăhe sways the bankers when the mortgage is shortă&ăthe milkman for the bottles with the most cream at the top.ăhe weaves epic tales of the big get that will set them for life,ăbaby,ăi swear,ăand elizabeth is convinced every time,ăher starry eyes never losing their roseâtinted affliction.
1966.ăeddieâs birth is an event to nobody in particular.ăthough his motherâs embrace is lovingă&ăher smile is warm,ăthe shadow of al munson looms over what should be the happiest day of her life.ăit is becoming increasingly apparent that elizabethâs husband is not a good man despite his affability ;ăal is not there in the delivery room,ăand he is not the one who drives elizabeth and eddie home from the hospital.ăthat honor goes to alâs brother,ăwayne.ăso do most things that could be deemed responsibilities once eddie is born.ăthe poor-but-happy free-wheeling lifestyle of a young wedded couple in the wind is over.ălife has set in,ăand al munson wants nothing to do with it.
1967 - 1971.ăthe only memories of this time are those regarding his mom.ăthough elizabeth grows disillusioned with al through the yearsă&ăthe light in her eyes is snuffed out entirely when her parents pass,ăshe does her best to let none of that darkness be cast upon their son.
what eddie remembers most are her things,ăthings to which memories can cling through the years.ăher records are her plane tickets :ăthey permit her the fantasy of taking eddie and leaving al,ăa method of escapism passed on to young eddie.ăeach piece of jewelry adorning her person carries a story,ăbut her favorite is the one inherited from her mother ;ăa black diamond encased in silver.ăthe childrenâs birthday cake cookbook she lets eddie pick a ridiculous cake from every year for his birthday :ăa butterfly,ăa pirate ship,ăa dog,ăa wizardâs hat.ăshe spins her records while they bake them,ăsubstituting expensive ingredients for cheaper ones from the corner store.ă( eddieâs contributions to the baking are the same as most small childrenâsăâăthis being sticking his fingers in the batter and the frosting. )
1972.ăeddie remembers precious little of 1972.ăhe remembers holding his motherâs hand in his in the hospital when it went limpă&ăcold.ăhe remembers seeing her unmoving in her casket and asking wayne why she wasnât wearing her necklace,ăor any of her rings.ăhe remembers uncle wayne swallowing around words he wouldnât say,ăbut glaring daggers into his dad like it was his fault,ăsomehow.ăhe remembers the sudden lack of music echoing throughout the house,ăand the bruise he gets trying to reach the record player to put his momâs favorite album on,ăbecause his dad wasnât there to do it for him.ăactually,ăof the little he remembers,ăhe canât drag up a memory of his dad outside of the funeral that year at all.
1973 - 1978.ăif childhood is kind to eddie,ăitâs because his uncle wayne makes it so.ăhe bandages eddieâs knee when he gets into skating for a month and inevitably ends up bleeding onto the cement.ăhe shells out the money from his meager paycheck to buy eddie the records he wantsă&ăthe clothes he needs.ăelizabethâs memory is kept alive in stories and pictures.ăeddie grows used to the sound of silence when wayne is at work,ă&ăhe grows used to the sight of his own shoes being the only ones at the front door.ăif it were possible to leave more than you arrived,ăal munson would surely manage it.ăthere are days where eddie grins at the other kids at school,ăbecause i donât have a bedtime,ăi get to stay up as late as i want,ăand boasts abandonment like a trophy in the way only an ignorant child can.ăhe stays up watching the television and thumbing through books he is far too young to read.ăwideâeyed and curious,ăhe is able to convince himself he loves his independence by fleeing to fantasy realms on screen and page.ăa child-led diet of sugar and soda does not a calm child make,ăbut there is nobody for his school teachers to call,ăanyway.
there are other daysă:ăăbirthdaysăâăhis ownă&ăhis motherâsăâăand christmases and fathersâ days.ădays that come with the cruel reminder of reality and smack eddie with a wave of longing so intense he could puke.ăhe drowns it out with the sound of music as loud as his momâs record player and tinny speakers will allow.
if any of his dadâs gambling and scheming results in cash,ăeddie never sees any of it.
when eddie is eight,ăhis dad goes to jail for the first time.ăthe grownups in suits with severe looks on their faces make him stay with wayne ;ăstubborn little eddie is incredibly bitter about this.ăheâs always been fine in his empty house alone,ăhe doesnât need to move into the trailer park now.ăsome of that bitterness softens when he meets veronica.ăronnie ecker,ănewly moved into the trailer park,ăis eddieâs first real best friend.ăshe cares as little for what people think as eddie does,ăand listens to the same music.ăal comes backăâăsomething about prison overcrowdingăâăand takes eddie home,ăbut he keeps his new friend.ă
on eddieâs tenth birthday,ăwayne makes him a birthday cake from the same cake cookbook his mom had used to.ăitâs a clown.ăits green m&m eyes and licorice smile are poorly done,ăand its skin is a hideous shade of pink,ăbut eddie cries anyway.ăhe knows somethingâs coming,ăbecause he doesnât get things like this anymore without a let-down to follow.ăthe other shoe never drops.ăfending for himself becomes normal,ăthe only adult supervision in his life largely being wayne poking his head into the munson house every few days.ăin 1978, he forms corroded coffin for his middle school talent show.ăhis dadâs face is one of the few absent from the audienceăâăand he tries not to be disappointed.
1979.ăshortly after eddieâs thirteenth birthday,ăhe comes back from school to find his home in flames,ăhis father cuffed in the back of a police car.ăitâs the first time heâs seen al munson in months,ăand the last time he will see him for years.ăturns out dear old dad had screwed over the wrong people,ăand theyâd set his house ablaze in retaliation - taking with it all of eddieâs memories of his mom.ăher records,ăher cake book,ăgone.ăburned up in the flames.
he moves in with wayne that week for good,ăthis time.ăwayneâs kindness is suffocating,ăthe same way good food might make a starved body sick at first.ăeddie is thirteen and terrified of the affection so easily offered.ăhe decides to take control of it and force wayneâs hand ;ăeddie stays out too late with ronnie,ăstarts playing dungeonsă&ădragons,ăgrows his hair too long,ăbut his uncleâs love doesnât falter.ăperhaps the most confusing part of it all is this :ăevery time wayne leaves for work,ăhe comes home after.ăhe doesnât leave for days or weeks,ăand the fridge is always full of âŚăwell,ănot fresh fruit,ătheyâre still poor,ăbut edible food.ăwhen eddie tells wayne,ăsteelyâeyed and knuckles taut white in shaky fists at his side,ăthat heâs gay,ăitâs half confessională&ăhalf test.ăthis is it, heâs sure,ăthis is the moment wayneâs unconditional care gives in.ăit doesnât.ăeddie is left with nothing to do but settle in to his new life.ă
1984.ăal munson returns to hawkins with a plan,ă&ăcharm enough to sell it.ăhe wows eddie the way he had used to elizabeth,ăpromising him a cut of the money,ăthem working together as a team,ăthem being a real fuckinâ family this time.ăwayne might see through his brother,ăbut eddie is not yet so hardened as he pretends to be ;ăhe lets himself be swept into the fanciful illusions his dad presents.ătwenty thousand dollars worth of pot.ătheyâre going to steal enough weed to make them legendsăâăor put bright red targets square on their backs.ădevotion to a man so flighty as al is a dangerous game,ă&ăeddie should have known he would get burned playing with fire.ăwhen things go wrong,ăitâs his face their new-found enemies know.ăwhen one such new foe shoots a cop dead in front of wayneâs trailer ?ăal does what al does best.ăhe leaves.ăhe leaves his son behind,ăpreferring his son to be the one found with the corpse.ăitâs eddie whoâs taken in handcuffs,ăthe image of the man with the gun burned into his braină&ăthe stench of spilled blood still in his nose.ănever again will he believe his dad has the capacity to love him,ăa lesson learned the hard way :ăpeople are only pawns to al.ăthey are only what roles they can play in his game and what falls they can take so he never scrapes a knee.
the miracle that is eddie not being charged does nothing to dispel the scandal that rumbles through pta moms and their children alike.ăeddie munson shot a policeman!ăal munsonâs boy,ăheâs a murderer,ădonât you know.ăthey say it was his dad,ăbut i donât believe that.ăhave you seen what that boy looks like these days?
ronnie ecker graduatesă&ămoves away,ădestined for better things.ăeddie doesnât.ăhe takes a âjobâăselling pot and pills he buys from reefer rick,ăand swears he wonât let anything stop him graduatingăâăwhether itâs next year,ăor the one after that,ăor the one after that.ăhe almost grew into his fatherâs shoes,ăand heâs not going to see that through.ăheâs better than that.ăheâs going to be better than that.
regarding flight of icarusă&ăeddie's backstory.
as is probably going to be clear from this post,ăwhile i took inspiration from what FoI gave us regarding the munson family,ăi also took a lot of creative liberty with it.ăhis full backstory can be found here !
what i changed:
while the munson home is still burned down by enemies made by al,ăthis now occurs in 1979ă&ăis an entirely separate incident to 1984.ăeddie had no part in it,ăonly came home to find his house ablaze.
eddie moves in with wayne at age thirteen in 1979,ănot when he's 18 in 1984.
officer moore dies when cj shoots him.ăthus,ăal frames eddie for murder,ănot assault with a deadly weapon.
what i kept:
ronnie ecker !ăshe remains eddie's best friend until she leaves hawkins after graduation.
al returning in 1984 to rope eddie into a scheme to make back the money he lost gambling.ăthe consequential abandonment of eddie to clean up the mess he makes of it all.
what i removed entirely:
eddie officially dropping out of school.
the subplot regarding corroded coffină&ăpaigeă&ăeddie's audition.

thisă(ăan idea lovingly lifted from my most belovedă)ăis anăinteraction guideăsolely intended toăaid in plottingăwith eddieă&ăgaining aădeeper understandingăof my portrayal.
dealing:ă in any verses that do not take place shortly before or anytime after eddieâs supposed death in season 4,ăyou will most likely come into contact with him as a dealer.ăheâll happily sell you a little something to get through the latest worldâending event.ăyou can also find him lurking at house parties making deals with shitfaced jocks who have too much money theyâre begging to be parted from;ăitâs easy to strike up a chat with him then,ănot like anybody else is going to.
the hideout:ăcrammed somewhere between an abandoned steelworks and a fallow cornfield is the hideout,ăthe only place in town stupid enough to hire the town pariah.ăeddie works four days a week as a barbackă(ăkeeping the bar stockedă&ăcleană)ăin exchange for being able to perform on its makeshift stage with his band once a week.
performing:ăthe hideout is a place for lurking andâŚăhiding out than it is anything else.ăpeople donât go there to party or listen to live music,ăand so eddie will take notice of anyone who seems to give even half of a shit about anything heâs playing.ăhe will also come to recognise anyone who frequents the hideout,ăthanks to its usual piss-poor showing.
barbacking:ăalright,ăso,ăeddie isnât technically supposed to mix drinks.ăand he doesnât,ăbut that doesnât mean he doesnât like playing the role of the therapist bartender.ăon quieter nights,ăwhen thereâs not quite so much running around to do,ăeddie is pretty easy to strike up a conversation with.ăletâs all just tell eddie our problems!
hobbies:
dungeonsă&ădragons:ăthe thing for which eddie is most likely to seek out fresh blood!ănerdy freshmenă&ăloners alike will catch the eye of hawkinsâ best dungeon master.ădonât know what the hell youâre doing?ăheâll teach you.ăhellfire might not be a cult akin to what the purists of hawkins believe,ăbut eddie sure as shit recruits like it is!
music:ăsingleâminded as eddie may be when it comes to musical genres,ăhe has an appreciation for anyone who can connect with music on a real level.ăyou can find him rummaging through tapes he can barely afford at music stores,ă&ăprobably scoffing at the latest pop albums.
relationship styles.
platonic:ăeddie can be both surprisingly easy and surprisingly difficult to get along with,ădepending on his preconceived notions of you.
eddie likes to believe heâs not a captious person,ăbut life has whittled him down to making snap judgments to survive.ăanyone prim and popular or preppy and perfect must,ăin eddieâs mind,ăbe at least compliant with hawkinsâ ignorance;ăif not downright malicious toward the freaksă&ăgeeks themselves.ăwhen he is presented with someone who doesnât fit this boxă(ăe.g. chrissy cunninghamă&ăsteve harringtonă),ăitâs a shock to the system.ăheâll get there,ăbut he might stumble on a few roadblocks of his own hypocrisy first.
on the other hand,ăif eddie deigns you a lost lamb,ăhe will happily play the role of the shepherd.ăhe feels incredibly protective of his little sheep,ăand a big part of his showboating around the halls of hawkins high is that it is intended to draw the eye of the bullies to him,ăinstead of his younger friends.ăthis does also mean getting suckered into playing dungeons and dragons if you want to understand half of what heâs saying,ăever.
eddieâs all about authenticity,ăbut his protectiveness over his loved ones can impede upon this.ăespecially in 80s hawkins,ăwhere danger is rife when you get a little too authentic.ădoes eddie love the idea of being someoneâs beard,ăor having one himself?ăfuck no,ăscrew that.ăbut heâll do it if youâre really in a bind.ăor because itâs funny.ăor because you paid him $20 to come to your cousinâs wedding.
alternatively,ăeddie could use someone to worry about him for once.ăas much as he insists he can deal with everything that happens to him himself,ăitâd be nice to have someone let him crash with them when the manhunt breaks out.
antagonistic:ăeddie can be provocative at the best of times,ăand it sure as shit doesnât help that half of hawkins thinks heâs a satanist,ă&ăthe other half is unfortunate enough to have met his father.
ooooooh,ăyou want to buy into the âeddie is a murdereră/ăsatanistâăpropaganda so bad!ăwho cares if itâs not trueăâăit sure as shit looks like it is to the general public,ăand itâs not like the rumours are any help.ălet him prove you wrong;ăor donât,ăand just throw a punch.ăeither way,ăitâs fun.
eddieâs hypocrisy when it comes to judging based on appearances can come back to bite him in the ass.ăit can lead him to assuming the worst of people,ă&ăthough itâs rare,ăsometimes when heâs proven wrong,ăhe can dive headfirst into trying to provoke them into cruelty so he can tell himself heâs right.ăthis is only likely to happen when he has a rigid,ălongâunchanged opinion on someone.
romantic/sexual:ăromance is a somewhat unlikely relationship to develop with closedâoff eddie;ăwhich has little to do with a lack of desire and everything to do with selfâesteem.
for all his showboating,ăeddie has never been offered proof that he is worth sticking around for.ăhis father walked in and out of his life as he neededăâăwhenever he needed to lie low from the cops,ăor when he had a scheme to pay off a gambling debtăâăbut never did he walk back in for eddie.ăas such,ăeddie can only perceive the attention of men as veiling ulterior motives.ăeven when he wants it to be real,ăeven when he entertains it,ăeddie has one eye on the door.ăthis can make him particularly tricky to convince of any real affection without hidden agenda.
eddie is best kept away from anyone too much like his father.ăanyone knee-deep in drugs,ăalcohol,ăgambling,ăor dangerous schemes they can lure him into can too easily convince eddie that he deserves nothing more than a life like that.
as much as he hates it,ăeddie will willingly be a game,ăa secret,ăor a dare;ăwhether that entails quick fumbles with closeted boys who wonât look at him in the hallway,ăor ones who just want to conquer the king of the freaks.ăthis,ătoo,ăprobably stems from his father.ăwhen someone is using him,ăitâs safe.ăbecause he knows exactly what they want.ăhidden agenda is not so much hidden as it is laid out plainly,ăand thatâs less scary than the not knowing.
