people say that Keefe and Grady are very similar, but I only think that that applies to a certain degree
Both Keefe and Grady have a particular sense of humor, and it's safe to say that they may have been similar when Grady was younger. And they both have very powerful abilities. The difference: Keefe has friends who support him. Grady probably did not.
In exile, he talked about how kids at Foxfire didn't really trust him. He was alone. His parents didn't fully understand what he was going through, and it's clear that it had a huge impact on his mental well-being. And it's an ability that the council clearly exploits. I think somewhere in the series he mentions something about the council never fully letting him resign.
He is more similar to Sophie in this matter. Sophie is very powerful, and from a very young age as well. The council is (in my opinion) trying to exploit her powers now that they've appointed her as a regent. Grady was telling her that she has had a huge burden dumped on her--and that he knows what that's like. He is scared of his own power, just like Sophie.
And when it comes to dealing with problems, it's like fight or flight for them. Keefe takes flight, Grady fights.
I think that Grady is more similar like Fitz this way. Fitz has trouble with emotional regulation, and he lashes out. Canonically we know that Grady struggled with anger management issues when he was younger as well, and as he has grown, he learned how to control his emotions much better. But he still slips sometimes and when he does it's absolutely terrifying. When he broke Fintan's face in nightfall, (love you Fintan xoxo) and when Vespera and Gisela said that he was the most ruthless elf they've ever met (this is coming from fucking war criminals!!) and they are completely and utterly RIGHT. He has learned how to use his anger as a weapon. He is capable of murder. Like Fitz, (Who dropped arguably one of the hardest lines in the series: Wiityispb) and was ready to kill his brother. You CAN'T tell me that they aren't similar in that aspect.

Fintante step down from the council, Grady is born as their biological child. He looks a lot like Fintan. He is impulsive, reckless and manifests with a powerful ability also he is a menace and gets into physical fights at foxfire
Fintan comes into contact with an enhancer, the power surging through him leads to a downwards spiral in his ability where he is more and more obsessed with fire leading him to discover everblaze.
Grady manifests as a Mesmer shortly before the incident with Fintan students occurs
The everblaze incident happens, family aftermath
Fintan loses his mind, goes insane from guilt like in canon but it’s also shown how his addiction to his ability worsens his insanity and recklessness.
He leaves the family and somewhat disappears into the shadows which we later fine out is the neverseen, Bronte is left raising Grady alone
Bronte always warns Grady to stay far away from enhancers since he also has an ability that could lead him down a bad path. Grady heavily internalises this and it becomes ingrained into him
Bronte cannot handle the similarities between Fintan and Grady, deeply struggles with his own grief but hides it so it’s not really mentioned in the fic just a thing I’m saying is canon in this universe
Bronte believes Grady is not worth it anymore as he believes Grady is going to end up like Fintan
Bronte disowns Grady so he no longer has a family and is allowed back on the council. They let him back on
Grady heavily resents the council for this
