Just found and combed through the merzack tag; it's so fun! Can you elaborate on the incident where Milo fell overboard and Zack saved him? Or did you already do that in an untagged post?
aaah, okay i have a bit of this saved in my drafts...
zack finds milo and melissas ship and is fascinated with how it works, because of how much milo improved the design to prepare for every eventuality. he watches the team of pirates (consisting of captain melissa, first mate milo, bradley, and amanda) from afar for a while, watching how things keep going wrong and immediately fixing themselves. hes amazed by it, and one day he finds out who engineered all of the failsafe devices.
after zack finds out what milo is capable of, he watches him from a distance for awhile, knowing that he cant possibly interact with these humans bc hes a mermaid and theres years of mermaids hating humans in his past and in his family
eventually, one day, theres a storm. zack is in awe of milos handiwork because the ship is being rocked and crashed by waves and its not budging, it wont break at all. he almost feels pride for milo after having watched him from afar for so long, but then he sees something fall from the boat.
milo is rocked straight into the ocean and zack jumps to rescue him. hes fallen far under the water, so far that he cant possibly swim up before he passes out from lack of breath, especially since he didnt have the chance to take a breath before plunging in. zack swims toward him and he sees milo up close for the first time. milos eye closes and zack realizes that he needs to get milo back to surface without having to surface himself.
zack sorta swims milo up and holds him above him so just milos head surfaces, and then melissa, amanda, and bradley spot him and use a life saver to pull him up.
after they pull him up, milo immediately coughs and scrambles to the side of the boat, shrieking, “theres a boy down there! melissa, we have to help him!”
melissa refuses because milo probably just imagined it, theyre in the open ocean and why would there be a boy who wasnt dead out here? but milo insists there was a boy who pulled him up to the surface.
zack clings to the bottom of the boat having a nervous breakdown because milo saw him, a human saw him. its not a good thing.
