But you were incredibly grateful they had. Because the higher ups at Smosh saw them, and after seeing how much the fans loved you, offered you a full time position.

It didn’t take long for you to settle in and find where your strengths are. The rest of the cast is so welcoming and charismatic, and while you had been scared to branch out from games into the more acting and improv side of things, they’re always happy to help you out. You’d been nervous that you might not be funny enough, or you’d make a fool of yourself, but you’re pleased when you instead excel.

Of course there are certain cast members that you work best with. You and Arasha have some great banter, and you become an accomplice in a couple of her pranks.

Your sense of humor is a bit more dry than some of the others, so you get paired with Ian for a number of videos. No one else has quite been able to match his energy like you do.

But there’s one person in particular that the fans want to see you with the most.

The first time you’d appear alongside Spencer in a video was during one of your visits as a guest on the games channel. It had been just the two of you playing “Guess the Video Game”, something Spencer always excelled at. And yet, you were able to keep up with him, guessing it before he could at least half of the time.

Normally when Shayne and Spencer play this it’s more of a teamwork thing, the two of them bouncing ideas back and forth. But once everyone on set realizes that you’re just as quick as Spencer they decide to make it a bit more competitive, giving points to whoever answers correctly.

Even you’re surprised when you end up winning, 12 points over Spencer’s 8.

From then on you get put in more videos with Spencer, seeing as your skill matches his. It’s been a while since he’s had such real competition, and fans are happy to see the resurgence of videos where people are actually playing video games against each other. Sure, they enjoy Board AF and Werewolves and Don’t Win videos, but they also enjoy watching two skilled people go head to head in some classic games.

It seems that they like them so much they’re once again inspired to make more compilations. Only this time, you notice a difference.

While there are still compilations being made of just you, there also appear to be a fair number of videos about you and Spencer. In fact, when you type in the two of your names you find yourself scrolling through no less than a dozen videos on YouTube. Not only that, but there are posts about you on tumblr, even edits on TikTok.

And that’s how you learn that fans are shipping you and Spencer.

You’d be lying if you said you hadn’t thought about it. The more time you spend with Spencer, the more your feelings for him grow. Of course you never expected him to feel the same.

But then you get to work one morning and head into the kitchen to grab some coffee. Spencer is the only other person there, clearly having come in early to finish preparing for the games shoot later in the day.

“Morning!” You greet him cheerfully. Okay, so this isn’t your first coffee of the day.

“Good morning,” he replies with a smile. “Ready for a long shoot day?”

“Almost,” you answer, “Just need to finish my shoot day prep.”

“And what does that entail?”

“Doomscrolling while drinking too much caffeine,” you say, holding up your phone and your mug.

He grabs a snack and walks with you to a nearby table while saying, “I like your way of prepping. Seems very chill.”

“It is until the coffee kicks in,” you joke.

It gets quiet as you both scroll on your phones for a couple minutes. But then you let out a quiet “Oh my gosh,” in reaction to something on your screen.

“What is it?” Spencer asks.

Part of you wants to hide it, not let him know the kind of things the algorithm puts on your fyp. But honestly it’s too good not to share.

So despite your mild embarrassment you turn your screen to him, noting his reaction as he watches one of the best edits of the two of you that you’ve ever seen. And more shocking than there being such a video is the way Spencer’s cheeks go pink. The way he smirks and hides, like he’s gone bashful all of a sudden.

Feeling bold you then say, “Did you know the fans ship us?”

“I uhm, may have seen a post or two about that.” He shifts in his seat, and you feel like he has more to say, so you sit quietly to see what that might be.

“I kind of, uh, I kind of ship us too,” is what he finally admits.

Now you’ve experienced a lot of surprises lately, but this is the biggest of all.

Before you can say anything he continues, “It started when we did the guessing video together and then has been growing ever since. I mean, a pretty girl who knows video games? Dream come true!”

His explanation has you giggling, but you manage to say, “I ship us too.”

“Well that's convenient then!”

Of course it’s that moment when your coworkers start arriving, cutting short the conversation, and leaving you unsure of what the next move with Spencer should be.

Luckily he takes care of figuring that out. Just before the start of the games shoot he pulls you aside, all calm and casual, like he’s just going to go over something for the video.

What he really says is, “Will you go to dinner with me this Friday?”

After quickly responding with a yes you both continue on like nothing out of the ordinary just happened.

But apparently you weren’t as good at keeping on the down low as you thought. Because as soon as that video is posted the edits come rolling in, the fans picking out every interaction between you and Spencer.

Of course by this point it’s weeks after the shoot, weeks after the first date, and you’ve already made the relationship official. You can’t fault the fans for being right!

Especially not when it means you and Spencer get to scroll through the edits together. Which you do while sitting on his couch, before he pulls out the controllers and you spend the next hour gaming.

So while you never exactly set out to prove your parents wrong, you can’t help but think that you have. Because while they thought video games would prevent you from excelling, they’ve done the opposite. They’ve gotten you a dream job, and a wonderful relationship.

And when he gives you a kiss after every round, no matter who won, you know that everything worked out exactly as it should.

Sure, he went on a fair number of first dates, sometimes even second dates, but then would come a busy week at Smosh, whether that be right before a major livestream, a normal shoot week, or just a time where a lot of projects require Ian’s attention. At those times it’s hard for him to communicate with people, and after a couple of days not hearing from Ian, whichever girl he’s seeing figures he isn’t interested.

A more recent example of this, actually the last time Ian tried dating, happened nearly three months ago. He’d been extra busy due to hiring new cast members. A few of the current members were stepping aside a bit, lowering their hours, and therefore they needed to bring in a couple new people to fill in those gaps.

Much of the work for this process goes to other staff members, but Ian always sits in on the auditions and callbacks. He doesn’t necessarily have to, but he still has this need to be involved, to make sure the people coming in are a good fit with the rest of the cast, and with the overall vibe of Smosh.

Because he was in back to back casting meetings he didn’t have a chance to check his phone. So by the time a decision was made, his last date had messaged that she had moved on.

Ian knows he should be upset by this, but truly he can’t find it in him to care. Finding a girlfriend just doesn’t feel super important to him.

But then the new cast starts. Including you.

As always there’s a welcome lunch, a time for Ian and Anthony to get to personally know the new hires a bit better. Afterwords, Ian takes it upon himself to show you every part of the new studio. He tells himself that he shows each last corner just because he’s so excited about, and proud of, this new space.

But if he was being honest with himself, he’d have to admit that he dragged it out because he was enjoying spending time with you. He’s not sure exactly what it is about you, but he finds himself smiling and laughing more than he has in a while.

Still, he’s your boss, and he ignores any feelings for you that are anything other than professional, friendly at best.

And you’re just getting started in this job. Which means your focus now is completely on your work. You feel like you have to prove yourself, show that you’ve earned this spot at Smosh and that you won’t disappoint the fans. And most importantly, that you won’t disappoint yourself.

That’s why a relationship is the farthest thing from your mind. Truthfully, you hadn’t been thinking about relationships for a while now. After a breakup a couple years ago you’d dated around a little, but nothing ever felt quite right. And then you’d been putting all of your attention on your career, and truly you didn’t feel like you were missing out.

But after a few months of working at Smosh, you’d started to notice something. Specifically, you notice the attention that Ian has been giving you. At first you think it’s because you're the new hire and he’s the boss. But as time passes, you realize that he doesn’t seem to be as attentive to the other new cast members. And honestly, six months in, you can’t really be considered new anymore.

So you start to focus more on your interactions with him. You pick up on the little things he does special for you, like saving a seat next to him at the all hands meeting, or bringing you a cup of coffee made just to your liking.

On nights when some of the cast and crew go out, you notice how Ian will wait to hear your answer before committing. And more often than not, he hovers near you at whichever bar or restaurant you all end up at. It’s as though he’s drawn to your side.

Finally you piece together all of these clues and come to the only logical conclusion: Ian Hecox, your boss and owner of the company you work for, has a crush on you.

And it only takes a few days of having this knowledge to come to another conclusion: you have a crush on him as well.

At first you wonder why he hasn’t said anything, why he’s never made a legitimate move or asked you out. But after giving it a little bit of thought, you know the reason. Ian is facing quite the ethical dilemma. The two of you dating, especially so soon after you starting there, would definitely raise some concerns and red flags.

Surely there would be rumors that you got the job because of him. Not only does this reflect poorly on Ian, but would undermine the work you put into getting hired. Plus, Ian dating a cast member would lead to accusations of favoritism, even though he doesn’t even have a say in who appears in which videos any more, and therefore isn’t even in a position to favor one cast member over another.

So even though you wish he would make a move, you’re overall grateful that he hasn’t so far, allowing you to make your own way in the company and prove yourself to the fans before any sort of relationship could form.

But as the days, and weeks, and even months continue to pass, you begin to grow a bit impatient. Because while clearly he developed feelings for you first, now that you're aware of this, you’ve fallen hard. You find yourself pining over this man, truly unsure of if you should do anything about it. What would the fans think? What would your coworkers think?

Well apparently, they’d think that you and Ian are two obliviously in love idiots and try their very best to get the two of you to finally admit your feelings for one another. Little do you know, they’ve even held two separate legitimate meetings to discuss how to get at least one of you to confess. They had plots, strategies, truly cartoonish plans that they’d be enacting soon if you two didn’t get your act together.

Which is why they all breathed the biggest damn sigh of relief when Ian finally, finally, made a move.

You were coming up on your one year anniversary, and Ian had stuttered his way through inviting you out to lunch, simply to celebrate this milestone. He took you to the same restaurant you’d gone to nearly a year prior. And while he said it was just a celebratory lunch, you couldn’t help but feel like this was the moment where everything would change.

It started out just like any normal meal, but once you'd placed your orders he got quiet. Shifty. Shy.

His incredibly deep breath was the only sign that he was about to make a declaration. Because a moment later, he blurts out, “I like you.”

You can’t help that your first reaction is to laugh. Because it’s just so incredibly Ian, to keep a secret for a year and then practically shout out the truth.

Your reaction makes him nervous, as he hadn’t exactly expected you to laugh at him. Quickly you regain your composure and reply, “I like you too.”

And just like that, the truth is out there, the declarations sitting on the table between you like the world’s strangest centerpiece. But then Ian calmly adds, “I’ve liked you for quite some time. Like, since I’ve met you really. I just wasn’t sure how to go about it considering the ethics and all that work shit. And I didn’t want you to feel pressured or anything but I had a feeling that you maybe felt the same.”

“I do. I’ll admit I didn’t feel that way at first. My focus was work and settling in. Making a name for myself. But once I realized what was happening I honestly started crushing on you, hard.”

He smiles at that, all bashful and blushy, and you can’t believe this is all real life. That this is really happening to you.

It gets even better a moment later, when Ian reaches a hand out to you and you gladly place yours in his. He then says, “I’d love to take you out on a real date, not just a fake work lunch. Can I take you to dinner on Saturday?”

“I would really like that,” you answer, giving his hand a squeeze, enjoying this moment of both physical and emotional contact. All too soon your meals arrive, breaking up the moment. But that’s alright, because you know that in a couple of days you'll have your first real date, and get to spend even more quality time together.

Walking back into the office that afternoon was an experience all its own. Because not only is every single Smosh cast and crew member waiting there and cheering you on, there are balloons, streamers, noisemakers, and even a banner that says, “It’s About Damn Time”.

Well at least you know your coworkers will be supportive.

You shy away from everyone, turning to Ian who holds you close and helps you hide from the others. At this Angela exclaims, “Oh my god, they are so fucking cute,” causing you to blush even harder.

As embarrassing as this is, however, it’s one of the happiest moments of your life. Because now you have your dream job, and your dream boy, and with Ian holding you close, you feel on top of the world.

You watch as Katie mingles with her friends, many of whom you haven’t met before. You’re familiar with who they are, since you’ve seen videos they’re in. Because a couple of months ago, Katie got a job on a YouTube channel called Smosh. You’d heard of it before but hadn’t watched much until Katie started as an editor.

You still don’t watch every video, but you’ve seen enough of the ones that Katie has worked on to know the names of most of her new coworkers. It seems like most of the guests tonight are from work. Which truthfully does not help your feeling of not fitting in. At least, not at first.

Because the thing is, they’re a friendly bunch. As soon as they realize you’re Katie’s friend, they don’t hesitate to include you. They try asking questions, attempting to get to know you, but it’s difficult with how loud the room is.

Once everyone is a few drinks in they start to get loose, and soon enough they make their way to the dance floor. Despite your liquid courage, that crowd is still a bit too intimidating for you.

Another straggler is Spencer, and he tells you that he found a quieter area. Desperate for a break, you follow him to a booth built strategically into a corner, the cushions blocking some of the sound.

“Wow, I can hear my own thoughts,” Spencer says as he sits next to you. It’s by no means silent, but it’s a clear improvement from before.

“I don’t have to shout,” you add jokingly.

“Well now that we can hear each other, tell me about yourself,” Spencer prompts. “You said you work as a…banker?”

You laugh and reply, “A baker. Math’s not exactly my strong suit so I don’t think banking is for me.”

“Well there’s some math to baking. I mean, getting all the right measurements, the temperature, the timing. Lots of numbers!”

You can’t help but find it sweet, the way he’s reassuring you, not letting you talk down about yourself. As the two of you sip your drinks and keep chatting, you can’t help but feel as though a connection is forming between you.

Time passes, but you’re not sure how much. You’re enjoying this little bubble that you and Spencer have created. You think you can hide out here for the rest of the night.

Of course, just as you’re thinking this you hear a voice say, “There you are! I’ve been looking for you. What are you both doing over here?”

“Protecting our ear drums,” you quip.

“C’mon! It’s my birthday! You have to dance!”

With that, Katie takes your hand and leads you back to the dance floor. You cast a glance at Spencer, silently pleading, urging him to come as well.

He shrugs at first, acting like he’s not going to join. And then. Like he’s being pulled by some invisible force, he stands with a sigh and follows. He knows that he’s made the right choice when you notice he’s coming and give him a bright smile, as though him joining is the best thing that’s happened to you all day.

Little does he know, it is. You’re not sure what it is about him, but in just the short time that you’ve spent with Spencer, you’ve really started to like him. You don’t want your time together to end just yet, and honestly you’re curious to see his moves on the dance floor.

The lights flash. The music blares. A fresh drink is in your hand.

And for the first time that night, you let loose. You feel the beat, cast away insecurity, and let it take you.

You surprise yourself by the fact that you’re actually having fun. It’s freeing, to dance and not worry about if other people are watching, or what they might be thinking.

But then you realize that someone is watching. And you don’t mind one bit.

You’ve clearly caught Spencer’s eye, and it’s like he’s in a trance as he stays looking in on the way you move. In a shocking show of bravery, you stalk over to him and place a hand on his shoulder.

You see his gasp rather than hear it, and you’re emboldened by his clearly positive response to your touch.

You raise your eyebrows, a silent question mixed with a challenge. With a smirk he accepts that challenge and places his hands on your waist. It’s your turn to react to this touch and you do so by stepping closer and bringing your other hand to rest on his chest while moving the first to loop lightly around his neck instead. As the two of you stand there, your fingers slide up to play with the hair at the nape of his neck.

Both of you start to sway your hips so that you’re technically dancing. But really you’re just staring into each other's eyes, each wanting to get even closer but not knowing how the other would feel.

And then Spencer’s gaze darts down to your mouth, and you take this as a sign that he wants more. And while you’re not going to be the one to initiate a kiss, you do step forward again to encourage him.

He gets the message, his eyes glancing down again before shutting completely. And after one more long moment of anticipation, finally you feel his lips press against yours. It’s soft at first, tentative, like you’re just testing the waters.

And then, after a few shy kisses, a switch flips. The gentle presses of his mouth against yours becomes more firm, more insistent. Soon your lips are parting, allowing his tongue to slide through them and into your mouth. He explores you in a way that’s messy, dirty. There’s a tiny voice in the back of your head saying that this isn’t appropriate in such a public place, but you quickly tell that voice to shut up.

You move forward again, closing that last inch and pressing your body against his. Your hips continue to move to the beat, and your tongues slide together in a way that has you wanting so much more.

And then, just as Spencer’s hands start to slide up your torso, teasing at the idea of touching somewhere more intimate, the bubble bursts once more.

“Yea, get it Spence!” Someone calls out, leading to him pulling away. Despite the fact that you now seem to be surrounded by his coworkers, he continues to look right at you. His smile is shy, clearly embarrassed at being called out, but he’s still looking only at you like no one else in the room matters.

“We’re calling Ubers,” someone else says, leading both of you to check the time.

It’s late. Way later than you thought it was. You blush when you realize this means you and Spencer were making out on the dance floor longer than you thought you were.

You pull out your phone so you can call a ride for yourself. At the sight of it in your hand Spencer says, “Could I get your number?”

You’re so focused on pulling up the right app that you’re startled by the question. Still, you quickly snap back to the present and focus on Spencer.

“Of course,” you say in response, reaching for his phone as he taps on it a few times. When he hands it to you it’s on the new contact screen so you fill in your information. After you hand it back you receive a text with a simple and straightforward, “It’s Spencer.”

You save his info then go back and finish calling a ride.

A bunch of you then naturally head out together, as you’re all now waiting for the cars that will take you home. The quiet fresh air feels wonderful, but even better is the feeling of Spencer’s hand slipping into yours.

“Text me when you get home?” Spencer asks.

“I will,” you confirm. “Text me to set up a date?” You then ask, your mouth working faster than your brain.

Before you can regret this slip Spencer says, “Oh absolutely.”

Just then a car pulls up, and a quick glance at your phone shows that it’s for you. Before you can step away, Spencer pulls you in for one more quick kiss, then says, “It was really nice meeting you.”

Your face flushes with heat once more at this compliment.

“It was great meeting you too,” you say in reply. With a final soft smile you get into the car. You spend the ride home thinking about Spencer. About the conversations, about the dancing, about the kissing. Which is why by the time you get home and send him a text, you’ve decided that you definitely, absolutely have a major crush on him.

“Glad to hear you got home safe,” he messages back, followed a moment later by, “Get some sleep. I’ll text you tomorrow about that date.”

You wish him a good night and he does the same. As you get into bed you can’t help but think that maybe, a club on a Friday night is in fact the place to be. Or at least, it was the right place for you to be tonight, since it led you to Spencer. And you have a pretty good feeling this is only the start of something great.

Soon the two of you start integrating your normal life back into the mix, finding a great balance between work, family, friends, and your relationship. You continue your data analyst job, grateful everyday for the flexibility that working completely remote allows you to have.

Harry is working on new music, feeling extra inspired and needing to get it out in this creative way.

Three months after bonding comes another shared rut and heat. It confirms that the two of you are compatible, and that you’ve easily slipped into a predictable mating cycle. It’ll make life easier to plan, knowing that Harry’s rut and your heat will occur every three months consistently.

But then a few weeks later something happens that throws everything off course.

A missed period is the first sign. Then comes the exhaustion. And when you start to feel nauseous at the most random times you finally go to the store for some tests.

You take them while Harry is home, but don’t tell him what you’re doing. If they’re negative you’re not sure you can handle getting his hopes up only to disappoint him.

And then, to your surprise, each and every one of the five tests you’d bought comes up positive. Very positive. Screaming at you positive.

You sit for a moment, daydreaming about what the future will look like now. But after a couple of minutes you can’t keep it in, you have to tell Harry, right this second. Grabbing two of the tests, you run through the house to find your alpha.

He’s in the basement studio, and you're so excited that you don’t care what you’re interrupting.

“Harry!” You shout to get his attention. He quickly looks up from his notebook, his whole attention locked on you.

“Yes love?” He asks, setting his work to the side and inviting you to come closer. You’re too antsy to sit, though, so you stand in front of him. With a beaming smile, you hold up the positive tests, saying nothing and hoping they’ll do the explaining for you.

He’s stunned, mouth falling open before clamping shut more than once. Finally, he says, “Are you….omega, are you pregnant?”

“I am, alpha. Or at least, according to these sticks. And the three others I left upstairs.”

He smiles wide, dimples popping, and he leaps up, lifting and spinning you in his arms. He sets you gown gently, pressing kisses to your face, your hair, your mouth, before slipping to his knees. He takes your tummy in his hands, kissing there as well them murmuring, “Hello little one. I’m your dad. I can’t wait to meet you. Take care of your mum, alright? Don’t make her too sick, baby.”

When he stands back up he wipes away the tears that are unsurprisingly sliding down your face after that sweet moment. Of course his eyes are swimming too, and for a while, you just stand together and hold each other, basking in this joy.

Immediately Harry slips into protective alpha mode. He cares for you, makes sure you're safe, that you have water at all times, goes out late at night when crazy cravings kick in.

Most importantly, he stays close to you throughout your entire pregnancy. Omegas need a lot of touch from their alphas when they’re pregnant, and your omega especially needs touch. At one point early on Harry had gone away to visit friends for two nights. You’d been invited as well, but the morning sickness was particularly tough at that point and you couldn’t imagine spending hours in the car. Still, you’d insisted Harry go.

By the time he got home you’d already started getting symptoms of touch deprivation. You both figured that it was due to your history of severe touch depri, that you’d be more prone to it now.

You planned to ask the doctor about it at the first visit, but the real reason that you’re more sensitive became clear the second she began the ultrasound. Omegas always need more touch when carrying multiples, and you were pregnant with twins. You both left that appointment with pure love, excitement, and about 20 printouts of sonograms to share with your families.

Not only was Harry supportive, but both of your families showered you with love and support as well. And at your actual baby shower you decided to do a gender reveal. Harry had done so many during his last tours that he couldn’t resist doing one for his own babies. When both balloons popped to show pink confetti, the room erupted into cheers. Of course, you would have been happy with any outcome, but there’s just something about Harry that screams girl dad.

As the weeks pass and you get closer to your due date, Harry dotes on you more. He also works to finish some parts of his album, wanting to be ahead of schedule so he can take time to be fully present when the pups are born. This leads to your home practically turning into Grand Central Station as collaborators are always stopping by to work with Harry.

It’s slightly chaotic, but you find you love having people there. It’s lively, never boring. It distracts you from all of the annoying parts of late pregnancy.

The goal with twins is to get to 36 weeks. And you get so, so close. At 35 weeks 2 days you wake up with some pressure. It grows and by midafternoon you’re definitely in labor. Parenting books and classes taught you what to do, and you’re both prepared. But of course, still terrified.

Harry’s with you the entire time. Both at home, and later at the hospital, he’s the perfect support person, helping you in all the ways you need.

“I’m right here baby,” he reassures. “Take my hand, squeeze as hard as you need to.”

It’s not easy, but by early the next morning your girls are here. Despite them coming early, they’re perfectly healthy, and you’re so incredibly grateful for that news.

“They’re perfect,” Harry says, holding one of your daughters as he sits on the edge of your bed. You have the other in your arms, and are overwhelmed by this first calm moment with your whole family. With your whole world.

You lean down to lightly scent your little girl, giving her this first taste of loving pheromones. When you’re done Harry moves closer, allowing you to do the same for her sister. He then scents both of them as well, letting them know the scents of their mum and dad. The two most important scents which will always allow their babies to find them, and which will help soothe them throughout their lives.

“I love you, omega,” Harry then says, though the words themselves aren’t needed. You can smell it through his pheromones, and see it written on his face, clear as day. “You did amazing. I am so proud of you.” You once again can’t hold in your tears at these kind words. You’re tired, hormonal, and so in love with this sweet man that it overwhelms you.

The first few weeks with the twins are crazy, but with Harry and both of your families, they’re also so incredibly wonderful. Your heart is bursting, and you feel so complete, like you have everything you’ve ever wanted in life.

After a couple of months Harry starts working again, staying home as much as possible and insisting they record and hold planning meetings close to where you live in order to minimize travel.

“You and the girls are my priority,” he states, his voice firm. “You will always be my priority from here on out.”

And that’s why he decides to do residencies as opposed to touring, knowing it’s what’s best for your family. He asks how you feel about MSG, considering the fact that the two of you met because you’d been attacked by an alpha there.

It’s been years, and you find that you’ve healed from that. You have no worries about being back there, and truthfully you’re happy for a reason to spend so much time there. After all, your family lives just across the river so you’ll get to see them and give the girls some quality time with their US relatives.

But there is one thing that worries you. Up until this point you and Harry have kept the girls a total secret. Not one fan, or gossip paper, has any idea that you have two daughters. And you like it that way.

However, you’re realistic. Harry is a celebrity. And there’s no way to keep the girls a secret, aside from hiding them away at home. That’s not what you want for them.

And so, on their first birthday, which happens to be 3 days before the first show of the Together, Together Tour, Harry makes an official post.

“Happy Birthday to my beautiful daughters. You fill this world with light and laughter, and being your dad has made me a better man. To my wife, thank you for this gift. You are an amazing mum and this has been the best year of my life.”

As expected, the fans lose their minds. And really you can’t blame them, so you enjoy seeing the reactions flood in. But only for a minute, because you have more important things to attend to. Mainly the small birthday party you’ve managed to plan, once again in Italy. It seems to be a prime location for big moments in your lives.

A couple days and one flight later it’s nearly time for the show to begin. You’re backstage in Harry’s dressing room, and while he should be finishing getting himself ready, he’s instead focused on the girls, making sure the adorable and practical ear defenders are fit snuggly to protect their ears.

“You’re going to be amazing,” you say when he finally stands. “We’re so proud of you.”

He leans in for a kiss, and you give him one only slightly too steamy for the innocent audience. When he breaks it off he leans down to scent you, then the girls, ensuring you’ll have your alpha’s scent to keep you safe.

After one more kiss for luck you pick up one of your girls in each arm and make your way to the box reserved for family. Halfway there you bump into Anne who reaches out to pick up one of her granddaughters, and you’re thankful for the help.

Before stepping into the box you take a deep breath. Because once you go out there you’ll be visible to the crowd. They’ll see your girls, take pictures and videos. It’s scary, but Anne gives a reassuring smile and rubs your arm, saying, “Everything will be just fine. Promise.”

You realize that while you’re going all mama bear on your babies, trying to protect them from the world, she’s been doing that with her son for half his life. If anyone understands, it’s her. With her by your side you step out, and luckily no one notices you all at first. Of course within minutes phones are pointed your way, but you invite them, focusing on family instead.

And before anything can get crazy, the lights dim, the screen comes on, and the show begins.

You watch your mate in awe, constantly inspired by and so proud of him. The girls are still quite young to understand, but they’re mesmerized by the lights and they love watching daddy run around and listening to him sing.

They manage to stay awake and happy, as you’d been adjusting them to later bedtimes lately knowing how the upcoming months would be.

And this means they’re still in good moods when the concert ends. You head backstage, getting to Harry’s dressing room before he does and you wait patiently. It only takes a few minutes for him to get there, and when he does he beelines for you.

As he wraps his arms around you and your babies, you say, “That was wonderful, Harry. You were perfect out there.”

“Yea? And what did these two ladies think?” He asks as he takes them both into his arms, settling a pup on each hip.”

“They loved it. Couldn’t look away. I think your uncle took more videos of them than you.”

“Good, that’s what I want to see,” he replies with a smile.

More family and friends filter in, congratulating Harry on a great opening night, until finally things start to calm again.

“Time to get my girls home and in bed,” Harry says, and the four of you make your way to the car that’s waiting.

You know Harry must be tired, considering he basically ran a marathon around that stage. But still, he stays completely focused on the bedtime routine, giving your daughters all his attention and love.

And even though he should be resting his voice, he reads them a story and sings lullabies for them, just as he’s done every night since they were born.

Once they’re down and you and Harry have showered and gotten into bed you reflect on the night. And though it was tiring, and long, you can’t wait to do it all again tomorrow.

Because a crazy life is worth living, so long as it’s filled with love. And with Harry and your pups, love is all you’ll ever know, no matter where you are.

And then you got an offer that felt like your dream was coming true. You were hired as the personal assistant for an up and coming artist. Admittedly you had never heard of him before, and questioned how he even had the funds for a personal assistant but hey, it was a step in the right direction!

Too soon it became clear that this opportunity was too good to be true.

His album release flopped, tickets barely sold, and his tour was cancelled. As a result, you were out of a job.

But you didn’t let this bring you down. Because now you had legitimate experience as a PA, even if it did only last a few months. Plus, it was great for networking, and you gained some industry contacts.

Which is how you heard that Joe Jonas was looking for a new assistant.

You had no intention of actually applying for the job. That would be insane. First, he definitely wants someone with more experience than you. He’s been doing music for twenty years, he works with professionals!

Second, and most important, you have a crush on Joe Jonas. A big, fat, embarrassing celebrity crush.

So no, there’s no way you could work for him. Not when you’d be constantly worried you’d make a fool of yourself by thirsting over him. But still, you couldn’t help yourself, so you’d updated your resume and filled out the application.

But you didn’t submit it. Not until a night out with your best friends who convinced you that you’d forever regret not even trying.

Pressing submit had been terrifying. Getting an email to set up an interview had been even worse.

But this is the worst moment of the entire process. Because right now you’re walking in for your first official day as a personal assistant to Joe Jonas.

You’d already met him during your second interview, but that was only a few minutes and you’d been focused on answering the series of questions that the other team members had been asking you.

You’ve already done the paperwork, and now you’re just waiting for your first instructions.

That’s when he walks in. Joe Jonas. Joseph Adam Jonas.

Holy shit.

“Hi, Y/N! It’s nice to see you again,” he says, snapping you out of your reeling thoughts. He puts out a hand and you shake it, only a second later than you should.

“It’s nice to see you too! I’m looking forward to getting started,” you reply once you’ve gotten your bearings.

“Glad to hear it. Listen, we’re going to be together quite a bit so if I ever get too annoying or distracting let me know.”

It’s honestly the last thing you expected him to say, so you respond with the first thing that comes to mind which is, “I could never find you annoying.”

Smooth. Definitely not giving off ‘I’m a crazy fan in love with you’ vibes.

Thankfully he just laughs at that, quickly moving on from the potentially awkward moment.

“Well, I hate to dive right into ordering you around but I have a bit of a list of tasks for you,” he says, flipping through some papers in his bag before finding the right one.

You look over everything and after confirming that it all seems pretty straightforward Joe says, “Great! If you have any questions you can come to me. Or Big Rob. Or Mikey, he’s normally around and might even know more about this stuff than I do.”

And with that you’re off to do your first set of tasks as personal assistant to Joe Jonas.

The start of your time in this job is pretty easy. You’re given some jobs to do and you accomplish everything efficiently. The first major event of your employment is JonasCon. You’ve never helped with, or even attended an event like this. You’re flying by the seat of your pants all day to take care of things and make sure Joe is where he’s supposed to be and has everything he needs.

By the end of the day you’re exhausted but satisfied by a job well done.

Despite the early start and long day, everyone still agrees that an afterparty is in order. And because these are Jersey boys celebrating their Jersey roots you all head to the diner that’s down the street. It’s technically after hours but someone on the Jonas Brothers team, luckily not you, had reached out to the managers ahead of time to ensure they’d stay open late and host them. The staff, many of them being fans themselves, were more than happy to accommodate.

The food is great, drinks are flowing, and everyone is more loose than you’ve ever seen them. An hour or so into the party you find yourself alone in a booth, needing a second to relax.

That alone time only lasts a moment.

“What a day!” Joe exclaims as he crashes in the booth next to you. He’s not drunk, but steadily making his way there if the strong drink in his hand is anything to go by. “Couldn’t have done it without you,” he adds.

You blush at the praise, but reply, “I’m just doing my job.”

“No. No, you are going above and beyond. Like seriously, you take care of things before I even have to ask. Like you can read my mind or something.”

This time you decide to graciously take the compliment and reply, “Well thank you. It means a lot to know that you notice my hard work.”

“Of course I notice that. I notice everything about you.”

Suddenly everything goes still. All the noise fades away, and your world shrinks down to just the two of you in this booth. Your eyes meet, and despite no words being spoken, there’s a definite moment of connection.

His eyes flick down, glancing at your lips. He leans in, just a little, and you shift even closer.

At this point a kiss seems inevitable.

And then the bubble bursts.

“Yo! Joe!” Mikey shouts as he claps a hand on the other man’s shoulder. You jolt back, your cheeks heating as you realize what almost happened in a room full of people.

Joe gets pulled away, off to settle some silly debate for the boys. You shrink back into the corner of the booth, resting your head on the table.

You don’t realize that you’ve dozed off until someone gently shakes you awake. Drowsiness clouds your better judgement, which is why you don’t fight it when Joe puts an arm around your waist as he leads you to the car.

Exhaustion is also your excuse for why you lean your head against his shoulder during the drive to the city.

When you arrive at your hotel he offers to walk you up to your room, but you’ve finally come to your senses.

“I’ll be fine. Good night,” is your answer.

“Okay. Good night. Thanks again for everything. No work tomorrow, so get some rest.”

You take his advice, going right to sleep in the plush hotel bed. With no alarm set you sleep past noon, something you haven’t done in years. After a shower and a walk in the city to find some lunch, you have a few free hours. You’re not sure how to fill the rest of your day so you go back to the hotel.

Now alone in your room you reflect on the previous day. You write yourself some notes on things you’d learned during the event.

But then you start thinking about what happened after. The moments shared between you and Joe. Your blood goes cold as you think about how you almost kissed your boss. About how he seemed to want it. About how you literally cuddled up to him and slept on his shoulder.

You’re properly spiraling, mortified by this realization. How in the world are you going to face him tomorrow? How can you keep working with him when you’ve made your attraction to him so obvious? How can you live with the fact that he seemed to want you as well?

For the rest of the night you dwell on this, stewing in a pool of anxiety imagining all of the possible ways the next day would go. Would he fire you? Tell you he was drunk and he didn’t mean it? Would he admit his undying love for you?

These were only a few of the scenarios you came up with.

So it was very anticlimactic when everything was totally back to normal the next morning. The near kiss doesn’t get mentioned and things go back to normal.

The next few weeks are an absolute whirlwind of planning and travel. For the release of Joe’s solo album he does a series of meet and greet events and small scale concerts. On top of that he has a number of interviews and promo shoots. You travel all over the country, changing location every few days.

You’re busy, and it’s a lot of hard work, but you love every minute of it. Joe always keeps things light, always jokes around and checks in with everyone. It’s truly a great atmosphere to work in, frequently feeling like a bunch of friends hanging out together on a big group project.

But sometimes there are quiet moments. Late nights at a studio or practice space. Cross country flights people use to catch up on their sleep. Times when everything slows down and the energy is softer.

It’s during these times that you feel that connection with Joe again. He loves to talk, and you’re always happy to listen. It starts off with work related topics, but more often than not goes off in all different directions.

You talk about your families, tell stories about your lives, and you even enjoy listening to Joe talk about Pokemon.

It’s one of these nights when you have a realization. There’d been a change in plans so you and Joe are the only two people on a private jet for a red eye from Los Angeles to Newark. Since this trip is to do promo for the Jonas Brothers album, the others aren’t needed.

Only you.

Despite having the entire plane to spread out, you both choose to sit facing one another. As always once you’re settled into the big comfy seats, you start talking about the upcoming schedule. After taking care of business, you shift to other topics.

The lights in the cabin are dim, romantic even, and you speak in low voices. The intimate setting leads the two of you to discuss more serious topics than usual. You talk about greatest fears, thoughts on spirituality and the afterlife, even biggest dreams yet to come true.

That’s when the realization hits. As you look at this kind, silly, caring man across from you, you know that the infatuation you used to have with the idea of Joe Jonas had now turned into real legitimate feelings.

You no longer have a celebrity crush. Now you know the real him, and it attracts you to him even more.

When you start to nod off in your seat and he gets up to gently tuck a blanket around you, you know that you’ve completely fallen for this man.

He hovers above you and then slowly presses a kiss to the top of your head. Not knowing how to react, you feign sleep as he sits back down. A few minutes later you risk a glance, barely peeking an eye open. He’s texting, but looks over at you every couple of seconds, his expression unbearably soft.

You can’t help but start to hope that he feels the same way about you. Getting to be with Joe would be the biggest dream come true.

From that moment on there’s a new tension between you. Longing looks, glancing touches, nights when you both stay up talking way later than you should.

It’s a slow build, culminating right before the start of the Greetings From Your Hometown tour. On Friday they do the final run through. It goes perfectly, leaving everyone on a high. Joe is especially happy and excited.

Which probably explains why he steps into his dressing room, sees you sitting and working at the little table, walks over, takes your face in his hands, and plants a kiss right on your lips. When you don’t reciprocate right away he pulls back. He starts to apologize but you don’t let him.

Instead you lean forward and initiate a kiss of your own. It’s intense from the first moment, months of pent up energy bursting into this moment.

“We’re done here for the day. And we get a break tomorrow,” he murmurs against your lips. “I was going to head home. Would you like to join me?”

You should say no. Tell him this is a bad idea.

But of course you reply, “I would love to.”

Immediately you grab your things and head to Joe’s car, somehow making it there without being spotted or stopped by anyone. He drives home with one hand on the steering wheel, the other resting teasingly on your thigh.

He isn't doing anything, not really, and yet he’s driving you absolutely crazy. While he maneuvers city streets and talks about random topics, you can’t help but imagine what’s going to happen when you reach your destination.

And yet, Joe still far exceeds all of your wildest imaginations. Despite him acting so casual on the way to his place, the second the door closes and grants you complete privacy from the outside world, he’s on you.

He has your back pressed up against the hallway wall. Like before, his hands cup your cheeks and he dives in to kiss you fiercely. He deepens it and his tongue slides languidly against yours. As you explore each other's mouths his hands move, fingertips running down your neck then your arms, then back up again like he’s learning you, memorizing your body.

Which is why your pulse races when Joe pulls you aside and says, “We need to talk.” It gets worse when he follows that with, “I can’t keep doing this anymore.”

This is it. The moment when you lose. Either your job, or your relationship, or Joe altogether. You brace yourself for the worst.

Which is why you are stunned when he says, “I want more. No more secrets. No more hiding. I want to take you on dates and hold your hand and have you come to family dinners. I understand if you don’t want that considering I’m your boss. I just want to make my intentions clear.”

You’re speechless, and so instead of flailing for words you reach out, slipping your hand in his. He looks down and smiles, and you can’t resist leaning in for a slow, sweet kiss.

Finally you find your words and say, “I want that too.”

It’s all he needs to hear. Knowing that you’re on the same page is enough for now. You know it’s not going to be easy, but you don’t care, as long as you have each other.
